Honor
A/N: Inspired by the Zeta Project episode Ro's Gift
Disclaimer: I don't own Zeta Project.
A middle aged man stepped in the rather small town. It was one of the Midwest small towns. The sheriff knew everyone and everyone knew the sheriff kind of deals. The man should know his brother was the sheriff in this no name town. Not like him where he worked for the NSA and traveled all over the place.
His older brother was proud though. He was proud he could keep peace in the small town. He was proud of all the friendships and trust he earned in that town. The man named James Bennet walked to the sheriff's office.
"Hello can I help you?"
"Yes is Kane here?"
"Oh he'll be back in a few minutes he went to go get some lunch." Soon the sheriff stepped in already back from getting some lunch.
"Hey Jimmy long time no see." He said taking off his cowboy hat.
"Hi Kane how are you?"
"Pretty good did you hear about what happened here?"
"No."
"Some group that said they were taking gifted youngsters was using them for their own bad purposes. Two of them were brother and sister and their parents handed them off."
"What about the others?"
"One other she could speak to machines."
"What kind of machines?"
"Oh machines you're chasing after."
"Anyone can talk to them."
"But it really takes someone to care about one doesn't it?"
"Zeta was here why didn't you arrest him?"
"I always believed that a person was to be innocent till proven guilty in this country Jimmy."
"He's not innocent."
"What crimes did he do?"
"He has endanger thousands of lives."
"He saved this whole town he did."
"It's his cover."
"Yeah well that machine of your he called the blonde hair girl his sister, and friend. He would be there always to protect her."
"What does that have to do with anything?"
"Only a man of true honor would protect all children, women and men. He didn't care what they looked like, or if they did anything in the past, or even if they had some strange powers. He protected them. He does what I do ever day Protect and Serve the people."
"You know I can have you arrested for confessing of not arresting some one with a federal warrant?"
"You wouldn't arrest your older brother." He growled wondering why his brother had to be so cocky, so sure of himself.
"He's guilty though. He has a guilty conscious."
"I looked up the records on this Rosalie Rowen. Anybody would have a guilty conscious seeing the injuries she has endured just to see that her friend had his freedom like everyone else in this wonderful country."
"Father would be disappointed in you Kane."
"Yeah he always was one easy to disappoint. Too bad you didn't learn what having too much pride could do to a man. Do you see where he is now Jimmy? You can go see him in a cemetery back in Kansas if you wish to get a reminder Jimmy."
"Shutup. He died honorably in the line of duty."
"You know Zeta isn't the only one with a guilty conscious. It's too bad you don't have a friend like Zeta does." James Bennet left figuring it was no use arguing with his brother. His brother always gave him something new to think about. Zeta was innocent yet they treated him more like he was guilty than a victim.
