2. Diagon Alley
As Harry sat in Florean Fotesque's ice cream parlour waiting for Ron and Hermione, he took his Hogwarts letter from his bag and decided to read it:
Dear Mr. Potter,
The school year will begin on September the first. The Hogwarts express will leave from Kings Cross Station, platform nine and three quarters, at 11 o'clock. Please note that due to circumstances, all fifth years and up will be having compulsory dueling lessons taught by me and the new defence against the dark arts teacher, Professor Snape, whom has been moved from his job as the potions master to this different post.
Yours sincerely,
Albus Dumbledore
(Order of Merlin, first class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock,
Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards.)
Harry unfolded the second piece of parchment and read:
1 Set Books
2 All students require a copy of each of the following:
3 The Standard Book of Spells (grade 5), by Miranda Goshawk
4 An Advanced Guide to Transfiguration, by Emeric Switch
5 Dueling: A Guide to Self Protection, by Quentin Trimble
6
7 'Hey, Harry!' it was Ron. Tall, thin and a red head, Ron had been Harry's best friend since that first day on the Hogwarts Express. 'Have you seen Hermione yet?'
'No,' Harry replied, 'but she's late, do you think we should wait for her?'
'Nah, she's probably in some book shop some where!' grinned Ron so they set off to "Flourish and Blotts" to get their stuff.
Harry and Ron looked around as the manager packed their books for them. 'So, what do you think about starting dueling?' Ron asked as he peered over a large, brightly coloured book on his favourite Quidditch team the "Chudley Cannons".
'I don't know, I suppose it'll help us if we want to become aurors or something in the future. I mean, there will probably be a lot of demand for it what with Vol… sorry I mean you know who back and all.'
'Yeah,' Ron eyed Harry cautiously. Ever since last term when Harry was captured by Voldemort and his Death Eaters and was witness to the horrible murder of Cedric Diggory, everyone was tiptoeing around him. Harry preferred not to think about it at all.
The shop door creaked open and in walked Hermione, 'Hi guys,' she said and hugged both of them, much to Ron's embarrassment. 'I have been looking for you everywhere!'
'Well you were late,' said Ron, 'anyway, have you got your books?'
'Yes I got them yesterday.'
'Okay then,' said Harry, 'do you want to go back to "The Leaky Cauldron"? Hermione, I really need to copy your Transfiguration.'
