Sometimes people go out to space, and they don't come back.
That's what your daddy did, that's what your poppa did.
It doesn't mean that he doesn't love you, no, it means...
It means he went up to the stars for a while, then found out he couldn't come back down.
He went up there, sweetie, so other people didn't have to.
He went up there so that they could sit down on their couches and take care of the people they love
Like you...
He went up there so other daddies could stay home.
He went up there so you could stay home
Or go up there too.
He left so you could do whatever you want when you get to be mommy's age.
Someday you will be mommy's age, and maybe be lucky, married to someone just like daddy.
Some people...some people don't have daddies like that.
Some people are stuck in space right now because there aren't enough people like your daddy.
They're stuck with the stars, and they wanna come down,
But they can't.
That's why daddy went up there.
He wanted to make sure everybody could
Fly with the stars and
Walk on the beach and
Swim in the ocean and
Play with their kids and...
Watch them be anything and grow up and do everything they dreamed of.
He still loves you. But daddy's not coming back down.
He got stuck with the stars, honey.
He's stuck with eyes like stars, and he can watch you and me, but he can't come back down
And he can't talk to us and we can't see him or hear him or touch him.
You can talk to him, and
You can see his eyes at night, but
You can't hug him anymore.
He can't tuck you into bed and read you bedtime stories now.
It's just you and me.
...and his eyes up there in the stars, where he got stuck and can't come back down from.
