LITTLE GREEN DAY MEN

By Lennon Karma who loves this song

I should have thought to use this song! But thanks for the request!!!! (I hope Green Day doesn't mind being part of the title as I do not own the song or any of da people in da fic.) So enjoy, review if you can, and remember: flames do burn.

Another turning point's the fork stuck in the road

Time grabs you by the wrist and directs you where to go

So make the best of this test and don't ask why

It's not a question but a lesson learned in time

It's something unpredictable

But in the end, that's right

I hope you have the time of your life

After sending Mission Impending Doom II into complete chaos, Zim could see no hope for being redeemed into the good graces of the Tallests. Their elite ring was composed of the best of the best, and Zim got the impression that once you were out, there was no going back. His long life had been filled with plans for being the Irken to make a difference, one who would go down in history as a great invader. He hadn't meant for it to be this way; trouble just seemed to find him. The Tallests would instruct him to take care of menial work below any other Irken's dignity just to keep him occupied and out of most inconveniences he could cause the empire. The day that set it off was the day the Tallests summoned Zim, informing him of his new work as a "sanitation engineer." The title pleased Zim, as it sounded important enough, but this celebration didn't last long, for he soon found out it was a fancy way of saying, "garbage collector." This was not good enough for Zim. He did his work at the Tallests' compound, and he often found himself looking in a window at the glorious splendor they lived in. In his young life, only about 65 years of age, Zim had always taken his freedom for granted. He had always been sure some day he would be behind the controls of his own craft, blasting through space, on his way to an invasion. Now it looked as if this would not be so, and he missed his younger days. Now that he was a "sanitation engineer," time dragged on for what seemed like eternity, but when he was young and free, a moment lasted only a moment.

After this going on for far to long, Zim heard the words that had the potential to bring his seemingly pointless life into one that meant something. Through the Tallests' window, he could see and hear them discussing some heated topic, but what was it? Listening intently, he caught the words "Impending Doom II." Could this be another invasion? This was his chance to prove his worth to the Tallests! Every instinct within him told him to go. Zim had no concept of holding back his dreams. The only glitch was whether or not the Tallests would allow such a move. Zim remembered their livid responses to his demolition of the first one. But did he really want to spend his life cleaning the streets of an unappreciative planet? Zim assured himself he did not, and made his move for the mission.

With the Tallests' reluctant approval, Zim was hyped up and ready to go. Zim was determined to please his leaders with a success, but was puzzled by the distant coordinates he was assigned. The other invaders wouldn't have to go farther than a galaxy away, so what made him have to go halfway across the universe? Could it mean that the Tallests had not only forgiven him, but were giving him a difficult assignment because no other could handle it? Or was it simply an extreme attempt to get rid of him? Zim was curious to find out the truth behind it all, but refrained from asking questions for fear that the Tallests would become angry with him again and condemn him to servant work forever. Plus, without finding out the truth, he had no reason to believe it wasn't a reward. Whatever the case, Zim was just satisfied to do what he wanted to: ransack a planet and be famed for his heroism.

The only problem was the fact that he had never left his planet before. As the time before the mission got down to the wire, Zim began to question his own ability to handle something so important. But it was triumph over adversity he had been striving for, so this was the grant of his request. On the eve of transit, Zim was prepared to lead the way to the great unknown, wherever his sense of direction pointed him.

So take your photographs and still-frames in your mind

Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time

Tattoos and memories and dead skin on trial

For what it's worth, it was worth all the while

It's something unpredictable

But in the end, that's right

I hope you have the time of your life

Zim packed up the meager belongings he wanted with him on his expedition, of which there were few. He packed his various odds and ends that would help him remember the home he was leaving behind, not that there was much he wanted to remember. The days on Irk had been only unpleasant as far back as he could remember. The only other things he added were some snacks for the trip, including a cupcake to keep GIR quiet. "What good is this damned endless insanity that I have to drag with me across the universe?" Zim wanted to know. The 'damned endless insanity' would later become Zim's only ally. It would also make the trip to their destination a horror through its "singing."

The rocket rapidly burned fuel, catapulting Zim and GIR into the unforgiving realm of space. Zim was proud to be where he was, but still wished he could have put his years on Irk to better use. He had been in such a hurry to get where he was going in the world of invasions and hostile takeovers that he forgot to notice all his home had to offer him. He could remember one day of his youth when he was beyond eager to become an invader that he stepped into an empty shuttlecraft and gave it his best attempt to pilot it. He had just left the planet's surface when he remembered he couldn't fly! By following careful instructions, he brought the craft in for a landing, but as he did so, one side hit the ground, and Zim flew through the front window as the whole thing crashed. Zim smiled subtly at the memory, now seeing the dry humor it possessed. At least he was no longer so simple and hasty. He now had plans for his work, and set himself to do anything and everything in his power to make them real. After an eternity in air, Zim looked down into the marbled atmosphere of his destination, prepared for descent. Here he went, down to Earth where his destiny awaited him in the form of the global domination he had planned for it. At last, immortality would be his.

I hope you have the time of your life

It's something unpredictable

But in the end, that's right

I hope you have the time of your life
