To Dance in the Rain.
Have you ever thought about it? Have you ever thought about not thinking at all? Just throwing all logic and all the things that tie you down aside and just running? Not running away, but running, like when you were small and you ran your very hardest to win Tag.
To run, to dance and laugh and leap and not care who saw you? I think it's just about time for me to be a child again, I need to run. And I do, I suddenly get up from the table, and run. I run past my best friends, past the younger students and out of the common room. I run, I can hear my shoes banging on the floor and I pause just long enough to take them off, and off I go again.
I throw open the oak side door of Hogwarts, barely aware of the raindrops that splatter my face. I toss my shoes aside and I run to the very center of the field, I leap through the air and dance, I dance like my life depends on it.
Perhaps it does.
I have locked myself away so long that I have been suffocating, but there is none of that now, as I frolic in the rain.
I feel the rain drops on my face and I lift my arms to the heavens, an Irish Jig having inspired my legs. Little do I know that Harry and Ron watch me from the Tower, with curious and somewhat frightened expressions on their faces. I am oblivious to their concerns over my sanity.
My hair is soaked, and I shed my robe to free myself to the rain. My skirt and oxford blouse, allow me to move freely, and dance with the rain.
I step into the mud and I slip, I can see the ground rushing to meet me and I brace for impact. A pair of strong arms catch me and lift me up. I turn to see a very unexpected face, the smiling face of Draco Malfoy. He is not smirking, is not contemptuous, he is smiling.
"What are you doing?" He asks me, a never-seen-before light in his eyes.
"I am Dancing in the Rain…" I respond, hardly aware of who this is.
"Then, Lady of the Rain, may I have this dance?" He asks quite seriously, and as I nod we clasp hands. We spin and laugh and dance while little drops of heaven fall all around us.
This is what can bring to people together, to laugh, to love, to live. It is so simple.
To dance in the Rain.
