Chapter Thirteen
"Hear, hear!" Karen clinked her glass and stood up at the head of the Brewer table. "Though I have waited a few years to pursue my dream, I want to say that I am incredibly happy, and I don't regret a minute I spent with my family."
Kristy and her family clapped. Andrew whistled. She felt the contentedness she always felt when she was surrounded by her familial warmth.
"But I have another announcement to make also."
Kristy glanced at her mom, to see if she already knew what Karen was going to say. Her expression was just as curious as Kristy's. The attention shifted back to Karen.
She paused dramatically, as she likes to do. "Love is a many splendored thing. And I," she grinned, "am in love."
Kristy knew that Karen and Shea Rodowsky were dating for almost a year now, but they weren't going to. . .
"I'm getting married!" Karen squealed, waving a hand with a simple yet elegant diamond ring on it.
Kristy's mouth hung open. So did her mother's.
Then the room burst into cheers. They all loved Shea. Even though he had some of the firey Rodowsky spirit, he still had a serious side. He and Karen were a dynamic couple.
As Kristy hugged her sister, she whispered, "I want you to be the maid of honor. . .would you?"
Kristy blinked back surprised, happy tears. "Of course."
Just then, the phone rang. It almost wasn't answered because of the commotion, but Watson managed to grab it before the caller hung up.
"Kristy? Why, you have good luck, because she's here for dinner right now. . ." Kristy's questioning eyes turned to Watson. He listened for a moment, and a smile formed on his face. He held out the receiver wordlessly.
"Kristy? Your past is calling."
