Disclaimer: I own none of these characters, only the plot.
This is a slightly sad story.
BTW, you need a general idea of what happens at the end of 'Myst III: Exile' to understand this story.

I put the symbol in for Narayan and saw the outer shield come down. I was about to look around and see if I could get both shields down when Saavedro came down the steps, surprised to see that his home was alive. When he found that he could only lower one shield at a time, he was downcast. Then he remembered that I was there. He told me to flip the switch when he got into the gondola and he would let me have the book.
I wanted nothing more than to send him to his family, but I knew that I had to have the Reeleshahn book before I could leave. As he sat waiting for me to flip the switch, I darted up the stairs and turned off the power to both shields. His cries of despair cut me to the soul. What if that was me? I wouldn't even be able to face the possibility of being separated from my family, not when they were only a gondola-ride away.
I walked down the stairs and faced the door with the vines. Saavedro begged me to release him, to let him go to his family, but I couldn't. I told him that I must have the book, and then he could spend the rest of his life with his family. I also told him my story, how I stumbled onto the Myst linking book in a library ten long years ago. I told him how I missed my wife and son; how, even though it was incredible to help these people in these different worlds, to give them another chance to live, right now the only thing that would make me happy would be to see my family again, even if they never accepted me back..
Saavedro had long since handed over the Reeleshahn linking book, but I poured out my soul to him. I was soon on the ground crying, something I'd not done for years. I missed my family so much, and I didn't know if I would ever see them again.
After a time, I don't know how long, I got up. I flipped the switch, then turned to Saavedro and gave him some advice.
"Go to your family, Saavedro, and if they are still alive, never let them go, not for an instant."
I turned and ran up the stairs to flip the switch, but before I did, I called a promise to him.
"Expect me soon. I will visit often to see your family, for I may never see mine."

After looking over the fics in this section, I've noticed that none of the authors seem to think about whether the player in the games had a family, so I decided to write this. I will accept chapters for a sequel. Please see the first chapter to my story "DBZ Finds FF.n" for instructions.
