Just a little something I knocked up on a rainy afternoon when I should
have been revising. Enjoy!
BTW just in case anyone has downloaded the midi of the Tomb of the Unknown King music—it really really works if you play it while you read--- just a thought
Quistis and the tomb belong to Square and each other.
Quistis lay on her stomach on the river bank, pulling her hand through the clear stream that gurgled and splashed beside her and listening to the haunting melodies of the wind sighing in the trees. Quistis always came to the tomb of the unknown king when she wanted to think, it was a quiet and intensely sad place that suited her mood well. Just like her it always seem to be brooding and dreaming of better times. For as long as she could remember, Quistis had come there to lose herself in its tragic beauty and forget her world. The dark melancholy of the place did not scare her like it did so many others, but calmed and restored her.
Rolling onto her back, Quistis noticed it was nearly sunset. With a deep sigh she sat up and gazed around at her darkening paradise. Time to leave, she thought. She would never get home in time, she might as well go and stay with some old friends in Deling City. Musingly, Quistis was making her way through the rubble and grass when she thought she heard a voice. With one hand on her whip she slowly turned.
Beyond the dappled evening light, Quistis could make out a figure in the dark mouth of the tomb. Not taking her eyes off it she moved closer, easily picking her way through the broken stones, but before her very eyes the figure melted away as naturally as a shadow. Blinking Quistis scanned the area where it had been, then ran over to the entrance to the tomb. There was nothing there, just the coldness of the stone walls and the balmy darkness coming from the passage into the depths of the tomb. Mentally scolding herself for being silly and feeling a sudden chill, Quistis again turned to leave.
This time the voice sounded clearer. Or, at least she thought it was a voice, at any rate, her instincts told her something was demanding to be noticed; as a SeeDe she always trusted her instincts, perhaps more than she did in her personal life, and she decided to run with this one.
At the door to the tomb she paused for a moment. She had not been inside since she was sent by General Carraway, and preferred to avoid the winding, dark labyrinth since she had found the remains of the student who entered it as recklessly as she was about to. Still something urged and invited her to explore further, like she had in her childhood when things were simpler. Marshalling her courage and reminding herself she was a SeeDe, Quistis stepped into the tomb.
Love it? Hate it? Tell me about it…
Hopefully the next chapter will be a bit more *coughcough* interesting and perhaps even have some dialogue!
