Chapter 1: Blessings
Darkness cloaked the mansion as the inhabitants within, students and faculty, were all settled into their beds. Well, almost all of them were asleep.
The young woman, known merely as Rogue to most, found that sleep hard to come by this night. She had been battling insomnia all week, due to a sudden restlessness and tingle within her young lithe body. She knew the reason for the new feelings cursing through her veins and just wished that the cause would hurry up and arrive.
Wolverine.
He had been gone from the mansion for 4 years now. He lived by drinking, fighting, and searching for his elusive past. Mostly he ran. He ran from a young girl who had somehow managed to stake a claim on his soul and wouldn't let go. She had managed to break through the brick wall he'd built around his heart and no matter how fast or how far he ran he couldn't escape her.
He could only hope that the 4 years he'd given her to grow up and become her own person would be enough. He didn't know if he'd be able to control himself when he finally saw her. He'd have to fight the animal within him. He continued to pray to God for strength as he made his journey back to the mansion and the love of his life. It had taken him nearly 3 years to realize that his love for her was a blessing and he didn't need to run from it. He just prayed that it would be returned in kind.
Marie heard the motorcycle approaching from hear third floor bedroom. She finally had her own suite, now that she was a teacher and fellow x-man, or x-woman. She taught beginning and advanced art classes at the Institute, during moments when they weren't fighting the brotherhood of mutants, or some other would be anti-mutant regime. She finally gotten to sleep at about 3 o'clock and had woken up to pray at 6 o'clock. She was in the middle of reading the book of Luke when she heard the motorcycle circle the corner. She still had excellent sensory skills since the Statue of Liberty incident four years ago.
As she lay on the soft mattress beneath her, she fought the tidal wave of emotions advancing. She wanted to run down the stairs and leap into his arms. She wanted to confess all of the feelings of love and joy she had for him. She wanted to exclaim how much she missed him, and hurt without him there, but how it made her a better, stronger person because of his absence. She wanted to tell him how much he had blessed her life by being a part of it and how she had prayed for his safety every night he was gone.
Instead, she continued to read up until Luke 5 and then went to take her shower. She figured that she would see him at breakfast and that it wouldn't prove her strength and adulthood to behave like a young girl with a childhood crush. There would be time for romantic confesses and reunions later. She quietly hummed as she went to take her shower.
