@};- If Only @};-

In the clouds, of your own thoughts
Is where you are today.
I see you sitting across the table.
But your mind is far away.

I love the look upon your face
When you glance up at me.
Your smile brightens-up my day
But what is it that you see.

A student, a geek, a scientist?
A weakling you must protect?
Or does another reason prompt
This guarding nature you exhibit.

I see you pay more attention to me.
And you seem to know I covet
Every attention you spare for me.
The touches, the gestures, the love.

But you're of a world that shuns such feelings
And all the military taboo
With their "don't ask, don't tell"
Just what am I to do?

You are quite a mystery, you know?
And all to easily I fell
All I love is only you,
But of this I shall never tell.

Never have you been matched
In history, tale, myth, or lore
Not quite the archetypal man.
A soldier, a friend, a father, yet more.

I'm the friend you go out with
The man to whom secrets you've told.
But Oh! How I do long
To be the one you hold.

How I do wish that I could stay,
And be here through the night.
At least let me have another minute with you.
Before I take to flight.

I'll be your dreams, guard your heart
And relish all your fantasies.
I'll cherish all that you would give
And keep them close to me.

But I say my goodbyes and regretfully depart
Barely keeping my depression at bay.
Now I must face another night alone.
If only you had asked me to stay.
