A Clean Slate, Kind Of

A/N: This is my first fan fic so be nice! I would appreciate it if you could tell me when things don't make sense or have errors. Just put it in the review 'cause my e-mail is shut down for a couple of weeks (you don't want to know). Constructive criticism ONLY!

This chapter is really short. It was longer when I wrote it in my notebook, but whatever. I have more written, but you have to review, 'cause I don't want to write out the whole story if everyone thinks it sucks. And yes, some of it is really clichŽd, I know already.

This story begins after Sketchy saw the nomaly and decided it was real (thanks to White's men). Max has returned from her trip to the school and SOMEONE has to tell her about Sketchy and his close encounter(s). This chapter is from Alec's POV. These are only his thoughts!!!! The next chapter is from Max's POV. Oh, by the way, I'm a total M/A shipper, so that is my story's pairing.*...* These things show thoughts.

Chapter 1: She's Gonna Be Pissed!

*Oh, shit! Why do I have to be the one to tell Max? It's not my fault Sketchy actually saw a transgenic nomaly. Just 'cause he told me where he was going and why. He told Original Cindy too! Okay, so O.C. wouldn't have been able to do anything, while I could've. Alright, I'm responsible. Max is going to have my ass!

Wait a second, Alec. Max isn't in charge of you. You don't have to answer to her. Why do you put up with all of her "I love Logan and hate you" type crap anyway? All she cares about is Logan and his precious mission to save the world. The only time she wants me around is when she's on some little errand for him. Why do I even care? It's not like I like her or something. Just 'cause she set me free from Manticore, saved my life a couple of times, is gorgeous, and spends most of her time helping people. She's not so great. Oh, who the hell am I trying to kid! She's awesome. I look at her and see someone so strong inside, so sure of herself and her actions. When we stare each other down, I can see this fire in her eyes. I'm the fucking moth: I keep getting burned. Like now, for instance. She is going to be so pissed at me. Whatever, it's not like it hasn't happened before.

Oh, shit! How did I get to Max's apartment without realizing it? Okay, Alec, you can do this. Just knock on her door. She'll open it and... close it on me, leaving me with just enough time to see her beautiful face frown at me and I won't have to tell her. I mean, O.C. will tell her for sure. I don't really need to. So why was I so eager to come down here and be the bearer of bad news? Because I'd rather be the bad guy in Max's life than not even be in her life at all. She seems to be withdrawing from me lately. Yeah, all we did was fight, but now we don't even do that anymore. I can't believe I miss getting yelled at, but at least then she was talking to me. I miss her. So now I'm standing here in front of Max's door. What the fuck!* (Max has just opened the door, surprising Alec.)

"Oh, hi Max!" Alec greeted her awkwardly. "Alec, what are you doing here?" "Well Maxie, I might have come to talk to you. It's either that or I made a few wrong turns looking for the new strip club. Take your pick." "Since, if you were looking for a strip club, I wouldn't have to deal with you, I choose that one." "I'm sorry, that's the wrong answer." "I wasn't aware that it was a test," she replied acidly. " Maxie, Maxie, Maxie! Manticore paid all that money to design you to be smart. What a waste!" "Actually, I am smart. At least, I'm smart enough to do this," as she slammed the door.

*She slammed the door in my face! 'Cause she's never done that before idiot. Ha! I knew that she would do that! Now I should just walk away.* (The door opens and Max appears.) "Alec, I'm sorry."
