Ash searched his mind for a smart reply, but failed to come up with anything.
"Hey! Ash!"
Gary climbed onto the bus. He was calm, cool and collected, his cap tilted across his face just in the right angle to give him a dark and mysterious look. Girls all down the aisle giggled insanely and whispered to each other about Gary's newest clothes, Gary's newest shoes, Gary's newest-
Ash silenced that thought as Gary draped his arm around Ash's shoulders.
"Ash I missed you in the holidays. Been off to the mountains of Kanto again?"
When he didn't reply, Gary shrugged and looked back at the girls, who all blushed a deep red and a few fainted.
"My parents..."
"Ash? Are you alright?"
"My dad left us again. He'd promised that he would stay, but..."
Gary's smile quickly changed into a concerned frown.
"Giovanni..."
"Yeah, Giovanni left us again. After he came out of that mental institution I thought he was going to be alright. That we were going to be a family again."
Gary sighed and dragged Ash over to the bus seat. Misty and Brock were in the seat behind them talking to other students.
"Ash, listen to me. You have to forget your father. I mean- look at me! I live with my GRANDFATHER for heaven's sake. My parents left to go on that world trip they were so excited about. Didn't care about me. I was just the extra that came with the cereal packet."
Ash bowed his head. He knew all about Gary's problems, about his dreams and hopes. But Gary never listened to Ash.
They both heard the bus door open, and the bus picked up a few more students. A red haired girl and a blue haired boy...
Oh no! Not THEM!
They were singing a song as they stepped up the steps and stalked down the aisle.
"Vacation's where I wanna be..."
The newest highschool hit. Of course.
They'd given up singing theme songs from their favourite pokemon shows. It was a new music era for the teenagers.
Ash groaned and covered his ears. Soon everyone would be singing that song. And Jessie and James had another scheme, another plot, to get everyone up to their necks in trouble.
