Chapter 1
Brooke discusses her feelings with her buds in the novak.
Nicole: honestly, Brookie, if I were you, I would forget that Spam McBitch McPherson was even alive and I would run right back to young Joshie.
Mary: Brooke, you can't tell me that you're going to pass up a chance to get back with that incredible hottie, Josh, because of your perceived love for Sam ?
Brooke: that's the thing, you guys; it's not perceived - through a slow and deliberate course of actions, Sam and I have discovered true love with each other, something I knew I didn't have with Josh.
Nicole: well, you could have fooled me the way I saw you cooing and necking with Josh every chance you had.
Brooke: and when did you see us necking ? it couldn't have been on these school grounds, not with grumps like bio glass around.
Nicole: okay, Brooke, maybe I was exaggerating but you just need to give Josh another chance.
Mary: oh, Brookie, you 2 made the CUTEST couple !
Brooke: wait, I thought you guys would support me, whatever I did; isn't that what friends are for ?
Nicole: why don't we do this. Why don't u go talk to Josh after football practice and see if the juices get flowing again; if you can honestly say that they don't, then you can go home with Spam and you won't hear another word from me.
Brooke: (exasperated) Nic, ok, just for you, I'll speak to Josh after football practice.
In the boys' locker room
Josh is sitting in front of his locker, half dressed for practice, with his head hung down.
Sugar: (from across the room) Josh, man, c'mon, you're the quarterback and we have to practice.
Josh: I can't help it, shug, I'm still kicking myself for ever dumping Brooke.
Sugar: hey, man, Sam made her gay - I think it's a little too late to cry now.
Josh: that's the thing - she's not really gay - it's like, Sam cast a spell over her just because they live in the same house.
Sugar: look, Josh, why don't I see if I could talk to Brooke after cheerleading practice; you know, just to find out where her head's at.
Josh: nah, she'll know that I put you up to it.
George: hey, sugar, can I play quarterback if Josh doesn't come out to practice ?
Sugar: cool down, Austin, he's coming if I have to dress him and drag him out myself. (Sugar goes over to Josh and starts throwing Josh's gear at him).
In the newspaper office
Lily: I'm telling you, Sam, Josh simply told me he didn't love me and then, he walked out I don't know what I'll do.
Sam: well, you may not like this but I would suggest you file for divorce; at least, you can get some money to support your Mr. Cluck's money.
Lily: but I don't want to divorce him; I still love him.
Sam: but he doesn't love you - in fact, he says he's still in love with Brooke but I think Brooke set him straight at that little interlude by the lockers yesterday.
Lily: Sam, tell me this straight, because I've known you since kindergarten; are you really in love with Brooke ?
Sam: in a word, yes. Although I'd be less than honest if I trusted that Brooke is honestly in love with me.
Lily: well, you don't think she would go back to Josh, do you ?
Sam: (sighs) Lil, I honestly don't put it past her. Now, I have to get this paper out so I'll see you at Mr. Cluck's later, okay ?
Lily: okay. (she meets Carmen in the hallway and they leave the building).
