Disclaimer: As I'm sure you already have guessed I don't own Gilmore Girls or the song "You And Me Against The World" by Helen Reddy.
A/N: This is the first time I've wrote a GG fic without Tristan in it, lol. Anyway this is a song my mother sang to me and it really reminded me of Lorelai and Rory as well as me and my mom. So let me know what you think please! You know how I crave reviews!
You And Me Against The World
Sixteen-year-old Lorelai Gilmore cradled her 3 month old daughter in her arms. Tears streamed down her lovely young face as she rocked back and forth, she had gotten into another argument with her parents. She had gone to the nursery to seek solace in her daughter, her baby Rory. She just couldn't breathe in this house, she didn't want her baby to grow up in this environment. They wouldn't listen to her, they couldn't give her what she needed right now. And now it wasn't just her, she was responsible for another life too. She had to leave this house, this city…this life. It would just be her and Rory—always.
You and me against the worldSometimes it feels like you and me against the world
When all the others have turned their backs and walked away
You can count on me to stay
A twenty-one-year old Lorelai watched her 5 year old spinning wildly around in circles on the grass by the pond. Her chestnut hair flying every which way and her blue eyes sparkling with pure joy that only children can really know. She spun dizzily towards the paved path and fell skinning her knee. Rory began to cry loudly causing the geese to honk at Rory scaring her more. Lorelai rushed over and picked up her daughter, she felt Rory's chubby little arms go around her neck as she buried her tearstained face in her mother's neck. Lorelai soothed the child cuddling her and stroking her back while humming softly. And Rory was calmed knowing she was safe in her mother's embrace.
Remember when the circus came to townAnd you were frightened by the clown
Wasn't it nice to be around someone that you knew
Someone who was big and strong and looking out for you…
Sixteen-year-old Rory Gilmore lay down and put her arms around her 32-year-old mother, not saying a word just holding her as she cried. She cried over her heartbreak. She regretted the way she acted to her mom because as much as she had liked Max, Rory felt somewhere deep down, that it wasn't right. It was she and her Mom and adding Max would have been…not wrong exactly, but—it wasn't right either. She didn't doubt that there was someone out there to complete Lorelai, but it wasn't Max. Lorelai realized that as much as it hurt it was for the best. The best for the all of them.
You and me against the worldSometimes it feels like you and me against the world
And for all the times we've cried
I've always felt that God was on our side
A thirty-two year old Rory Gilmore cradled her 3-month-old daughter in her arms. As tears streamed down her lovely face, she missed her mother. Her wonderful wacky caring caffeinated mother. Her mother who had been killed in a car crash just a month earlier. If it wasn't for her daughter, she didn't know how she would survive the pain. Even her husband couldn't comfort her, though he tried. The gaping hole in her heart was eased slowly by telling her baby stories of the grandmother her daughter, would not be able to remember. The memories while painful also gave Rory a chance to relive the amazing times she had with her mother. She had been so lucky to have a woman like her in her life, so lucky to have been loved by her.
And when one of us is goneAnd one of us is left to carry on
Then remembering will have to do
Our memories alone will pull us through
Think of the days of me and you
Of you and me against the world
