Author's Notes: Well this little fic is actually very different from any of the other ones I wrote. This piece of work is what I wrote for the State Wide writing assessment. We were given a topic and had to make a story about it, working with limited amount of space. So that's one of the reasons why this seems so short. Oh and I did change the names on my writing assignment, if you were wondering. Please.Enjoy! ^_^

Sam's Swing By - Angel Inoshi ________________________________________________________________

It was a warm spring day in Shinjuku Park. A young man in about his mid- teens with a bouquet of velvet red roses in hand walked a long narrow path that led to the Sakura Orchard. Warm sapphire eyes held a look of kindness and virtue, and ebony locks swayed with each graceful step the younge man took.

Ken Ichijouji had walked this path many times with his older brother Sam. Sam was considered the gifted child of the family. He was a genius, and to top it all off, he was funny and charming. Everyone seemed to adore Sam and Ken was among them. Even though their parents praised Sam as well as teachers and other fellow parents, Sam never indulged in the glory of it all. Instead, Sam would escape it by going to his favorite spot in his favorite place; it was the old swing under the tree in the Sakura Orchard.

A smile graced Ken's face as he reminisced about long forgotten memories with his brother. Ken remembered Sam loved that old swing. He claimed every time he swayed back and forth, his eyes would just slide shut and a feeling of complete satisfaction would wash over him; his body seemed to take flight and all his cares and worries would rise into the air, only to be swept by the wind and forgotten. It was the perfect spot, the perfect swing.

Ken was also fond of the swing, but in a different manner. His brother would read him poetry and fairy tales while perched on top of the hanging piece of wood, while Ken himself sat on the ground leaned against the Cherry Blossom tree and fall asleep to Sam's voice. The moment felt like a dream, or some sort of fantasy. However, this dream came to a halting stop.

There had been a car accident. A drunk driver didn't even notice Sam on the corner of that sidewalk, but that was hardly an excuse. The driver never even slowed down to see what he hit; he kept on driving without a care in the world. Sam was held in intensive care, but there was nothing the doctors could do. Sam died that same day.

Tears stung Ken's eyes as he remembered every minute of that horrible day; he finally found himself at the Sakura Orchard. His steps slowed as he neared the old swing, Sam's perfect swing. He fingers brushed across the grain of the wood as he laid the bouquet of roses upon the swing. "For you, Sam," Ken whispered as he took his old spot on the ground and leaned against the Cherry Blossom tree.
