The Mirror
Its sleek silver surface says:
"More than pretty, you are lovely."
And your hand slowly touches your face
"the loveliest face in all the land."
It the mirror lies outright.
And your hand falls down
Covers the picture of the bride to be
Snow white skin, lush black hair
Young, pure, lovely.
You reconsider your outfit.
Too gaudy. Too flashy.
Red shoes are not meant for a wedding.
"You look fine," the mirror says
And out the door you go.
The crowd whispers everywhere about you
Pretty. Proud. Stealing. Daring.
Did you actually go so far...
Pretty shoes
Almost as red as yours
Redder than blood
Redder than fire.
Dancing now
You steal the show.
Upstage the bride
And catch a glimpse of
Yourself in the mirror-
One last time- before you die.
Authors note:
In case you're wondering this poem is based off of both the well known tale "Snow White" and the lesser known tale (about a young and vain girl who gets her just desserts) "The Red Shoes."
