Dumbledore's mistake:

Albus Dumbledore stood in his office, staring at the door that young Harry Potter had just stormed out of. He was in shock at what Harry said. He had known there was a slight chance that Harry would find out the truth, but he did not believe Harry would take it so badly. Severus was young and made a mistake when he overheard the first part of the prophecy. The moment Severus found out that Lord Voldemort was going after Harry, Severus came to Albus to beg him to save the Potter's. Well, the truth was, he begged Albus to save Lily at first. Only after he had seen the look on Albus' face that he told Albus to save them all. Now Harry found out yet he did not give Albus a chance to explain that Severus tried to save his family and he had been helping Albus protect Harry all these years.

For the first time in a long time, Albus wasn't sure if he would be able to get through to Harry, to explain. The young man was angry, very angry. There was no use talking to Harry yet, not until he calmed down. Albus thought the best course of action would be to give Harry some time, maybe a few days. He would see how Harry looked at breakfast then again at lunch before he would know when it would be the right time to speak with the boy again.

Albus was going over the words Harry had shouted at him. Harry no longer trusted him, would no longer listen to him for allowing Severus into the school instead of being kissed by a dementor. Harry's final words as he stormed out was that he was not going to help.

'Those were just words shouted in anger. Harry would never abandon his friends. He would never allow the man that killed his parents to live if there was anything he could do to stop him. Harry knew what was at stake, he knew about the horcruxes and he knew about the prophecy. Yes, once Harry calmed down, he would continue to help. For now, I will have to go to the cave alone. I cannot put it off any longer.'

Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley had seen Harry storm angrily into the gryffindor common room. They had seen those looks before on Harry and knew right now it was best to give Harry some space and some time alone. They had no idea why Harry was angry but they knew he would eventually tell them. He might have been angry at Hermione for the way she kept going on about the half-blood prince's book and he had been angry at Ron and Hermione a few times because they refused to listen to Harry about Draco Malfoy. They always gave Harry some time alone when he got in those moods, sooner or later though, he always calmed down. They decided this was another one of those times when it was best to give Harry some space, so they both went back to their homework.

Neither of them saw the portrait hole open up, then close a few minutes later. They were concentrating on what they were writing. One person in the Gryffindor common room had see the portrait open and close, by the look of it, on it's own. But Neville had a feeling that it was Harry, using his invisibility cloak. Neville might not be told a lot by others but he had been watching and listening. He knew Harry had been having secret meetings with the headmaster. Neville had a feeling that the reason Harry snuck out using his invisibility cloak was to do with that, which meant, it was about Voldemort.

By the time Ron went up to the dorm room to go to bed, Harry had been and gone from diagon alley. He had emptied his vaults, he had most of the money changed to muggle money then he had bought a wizards tent along with a lot of provisions. The moment he bought everything he needed, he snuck into the muggle world, found a deserted alley, put his invisibility cloak back over himself and his broom then lifted off the ground. As soon as he saw his faithful owl, he flew towards her. Hedwig flew off with Harry following. It would be the last time anyone would see Harry Potter.

Ron walked over to his bed and began to change into his pyjamas when the other boys also walked into the room. As Ron climbed into bed, he noticed the curtains around Harry's bed were closed. He figured Harry wasn't ready to talk yet so Ron just curled on his side ready for sleep.

Harry Potter was able to fly to France without being seen. He had been following Hedwig, who would lead him to the perfect place. When Harry saw Hedwig begin to descend he followed her down.

Hedwig landed in a tree, Harry landed on the ground, under the tree then looked around. He landed in a field that was surrounded by a lot of trees,

'This is perfect Hedwig, I can put the tent up between the trees which should give me some security. I won't be long then you can come in and rest.' It had been a long flight but Harry knew that now he was away from England, he just had to hide until he turned seventeen.

Once Harry was of age, he could use magic to create fake papers, which he could then use to get on a muggle plane. He knew he would be hiding in the tent for just over two months, but it would give him the time he needed to work out where he was going to go, which country he was going to and make a new home. He had to come up with a new name, he would also have to work on some basic disguises so no one would see the-boy-who-lived. He knew he could easily cover his scar by a hat but if he had to take that off, anyone could see the scar. He figured things like lady's makeup would work on that, for now. He would buy sunglasses which will hide his green eyes but he figured the best long term plan would be to get contact lenses, ones that were made in different colours. He knew he had to do something about his hair, he figured either cutting it very short, like a crew cut or allowing it to grow very long. Either of those would look very different from what Harry Potter looked like.

Harry walked from the field in between the trees. He found a decent size section of ground, so he pulled the tent out of his bag and began to put it up. It took him a while, he had never been camping before. He couldn't use magic, at least for another two months so he struggled with the ropes and poles until he finally had the tent up. He opened the flap then looked up at Hedwig, who instantly flew down and through the tent flap. Harry followed her inside.

Harry got a bowl of water for Hedwig then he got another bowl where he put in some owl treats. He knew Hedwig would go off and hunt later. It was time for her to rest now, just like it was time for Harry to rest. He did get himself a glass of water from the kitchen before heading to the bedroom. He might be still angry but he was also exhausted so he stripped off his clothes, just leaving his boxers on, then climbed into the large double bed. He wasn't sure how long it would take him to fall asleep, but he knew sooner or later, sleep would come.

Ron woke up, began to dress before he noticed the curtains around Harry's bed were still closed. He wasn't sure whether to call out to him, to see if Harry was awake or if he should just leave him until he got up himself. Ron decided to leave Harry alone, at least for now.

Neville saw Ron leave the dorm room before he got up. Apart from dressing, he did look over at Harry's closed off bed but he also looked at his trunk, wardrobe and bedside cupboard. One thing Neville noticed straight away was Harry's glasses were not on his beside cupboard. Harry always set his glasses there before going to sleep, yet Ron did not notice Harry's glasses were missing. Neville also noticed that the wardrobe was ajar. Apart from those two things which wasn't normal, was Harry's trunk. It wasn't locked, it was just closed. Harry always locked his trunk, not just because all of them had been told to keep their trunks locked, but Harry kept his father's invisibility cloak in the trunk along with the map that also belonged to his father. Everyone in Gryffindor knew Harry had those but they also knew not to touch them, without Harry's permission. Neville found it strange that the trunk wasn't locked but also that his glasses were not where they should be. It made Neville wonder if Harry was really behind those curtains.

Neville sat on his bed, pretending to read one of his books while he waited for Dean and Seamus to leave. They had been getting dressed while talking, so they took longer than normal. Once they walked out of the dorm room, Neville got up and walked over to the side of Harry's bed. He listened for a minute, he couldn't hear anything. He pulled the curtains apart and saw an empty and unused bed.

'Damn, he never slept here at all,' Neville wasn't sure what to do or if he should say something. If Harry was really angry and wanted some space, he might have decided to go to the room of requirement. That room could easily be used to sleep in, Harry would just have to think of a bed while he walked passed the wall.

Neville decided to check the trunk next. As soon as he opened it, he noticed Harry's bag was gone, but as he began to look through the trunk and under all the books, neville instantly noticed the map and invisibility cloak was also gone. He hurried over to the wardrobe, opened it up and saw Harry's clothes were gone along with his broom. Neville knew if Harry was just going to sleep somewhere else in the castle, he wouldn't take his broom.

'He's gone, he left. What in the name of merlin got Harry so angry that he would leave Hogwarts, especially when it was known that Harry was on the top of Voldemort's list.'

Neville knew now he would have to tell someone that Harry was gone. He realised that Harry had left the Gryffindor common room just after seven the previous evening. It was now seven thirty the following morning. That meant Harry had been gone for more than twelve hours, which also meant, Harry could be anywhere.

Neville left Gryffindor tower and headed down through the castle, heading for the great hall. He didn't go straight to the Gryffindor table, he went to the staff table and stood in front of his head of house.

'What is it Longbottom?' Minerva asked.

'There's something serious I need to tell you but I would rather do it away from everyone.'

Minerva noticed instantly that the young man sounded and looked very serious.

'Very well. Is it urgent or would I be able to finish my breakfast?'

'It's serious but I suppose it couldn't hurt to wait a bit longer,' Neville turned and went over to the Gryffindor table. He grabbed some toast but that was all. He was too worried to eat anything else.

When he noticed his head of house walking towards him, Neville stood up. He followed her out of the great hall and to her office.

'Now what is it that you need to tell me Longbottom?'

'Um, last night, just after seven o'clock, Harry came into Gryffindor tower. One look at him told everyone he was furious. He stormed up to the dorm room. Now I noticed Ron and Hermione watch him, then I heard them say it was best to give Harry some time alone when he's angry,' Neville was nervous but he decided he wouldn't say anything about seeing the portrait hole open and close on it's own, 'When I went up to bed later, I noticed Harry's curtains were close. Ron noticed the same thing. Well, this morning Harry's curtains were still closed, but I noticed something.'

'Get on with it Longbottom.'

'Sorry, I...um, noticed three things. First, his glasses wasn't on his bedside cupboard and he always sits them there when he goes to sleep. Then I noticed that his trunk wasn't locked. Also, his wardrobe was ajar. One thing with Harry, he always locks his trunk because of his invisibility cloak and he always shuts his wardrobe. He's always been neat, but also, his good broom is in there,' Neville noticed his teacher getting frustrated.

'I decided to check on him. He wasn't in his bed and it hadn't been slept in. I checked his trunk and instantly noticed his bag and invisibility cloak wasn't there. I checked the wardrobe, his clothes and broom were missing. At first I thought he might have just gone to some room to be alone, until I saw his clothes missing.' Neville didn't mention the room of requirement since the DA still snuck in there to practice.

'So you believe, once all of you went to bed, he packed and snuck out of the castle?'

Neville hesitated only for a few seconds, 'Um, yeah, I do now. He was really angry Professor. I've seen Harry angry before, but never like this.'

'Thank you for tell me Longbottom. I will go speak with the headmaster. You can go.'

Neville nodded then left the room. He did his bit, now it was up to the staff to find out just where Harry Potter was and also find out why he left. If Harry had a meeting with the headmaster, then something happened during that meeting to make Harry so angry that he left Hogwarts.

By the time Neville walked back to Gryffindor tower, the headmaster's voice was amplified. He said all students were to return to their house rooms, that all classes were cancelled. Neville instantly knew that this was about Harry.

Neville sat on one of the sofa's near the fireplace to wait. He knew all the Gryffindor's would be heading there. He also knew that Hermione and Ron would instantly got up to the dorm room to see Harry.

It was as Neville thought. Hermione and Ron hurried in and went towards the boys dorm.

'He's not there,' Neville said.

'Whose not where?' Dean asked.

Neville stood to face Ron and Hermione, 'He left, his things are gone, or most of his things, including his broom, cloak, clothes and map. He never slept in his bed last night.'

'Why didn't you tell us,' Hermione said in a shriek.

'I only found out after you left the tower. I went and told McGonagall. She was going to speak with the headmaster. All of us saw how angry he was last night so something happened to make him so angry that he left Hogwarts. He's been gone now for more than thirteen hours, which means, he could be anywhere.'

'It also could mean that he gets caught and killed,' Ron said urgently as he moved towards the portrait. It refused to open, 'We're locked in.'

'I would say the staff are searching the castle for Harry,' Neville said.

'They could but if he decided to hide in the chamber of secrets, they won't get in. Only a parselmouth can open the entrance,' Hermione said.

In the forest, Harry had just finished eating his breakfast. He decided to just relax for the day but also, he would begin to write down plans, things he needed to do so he could escape from Voldemort, from Dumbledore and from Snape. He really wanted Snape dead but he thought it was just best to leave and get away from everyone that made his life miserable. He would never see anyone in Hogwarts again but he also wouldn't have to see the Dursley's again.

Within hours, aurors were all over Hogwarts, but Amelia Bones, the head of the department of magical law enforcement and the minister for magic, Rufus Scrimgeour also turned up. They wanted information on why Harry Potter would leave but they also wanted to make sure he wasn't taken.

'After Mr Longbottom explained what he saw and what was missing, that told me he left on his own.'

'Yes, if he was taken but someone did not want us to know, they would have taken all of his belongings. His potions equipment along with his some of his older books were left in his trunk.'

'I did hear that last night he was angry, after a meeting with you Albus. Care to tell us what you did to make him angry, angry enough that he would leave?' Amelia asked.

'Harry heard something that upset him, he blamed me for part of it. He said he will never trust me again nor will he listen to me. The way he looked, it was like he loathed me. He would not give me a chance to explain.'

'That doesn't tell us what upset him Albus. I don't want your runaround answers. I want the full facts of what happened.'

Albus sighed as he sat down, 'Harry found out who it was that told Voldemort the first part of the prophecy. That is why Voldemort went after the Potter's.'

'Did you know of this prophecy?' Rufus asked.

'Yes, I showed Harry the memory of when the prophecy was made, in my presence. He accepted it and we spoke about how to end Voldemort.'

'But you said he blamed you for part of it, so the rest Albus and don't leave anything out,' Amelia said.

'He was young. When he realised what he did, he came to me to tell me Voldemort was going after the Potter's. He asked me to save them.'

'Albus,' Amelia growled.

'Severus was a young death eater. He heard the first part of the prophecy and went to Voldemort with the information. Harry found out last night that Severus told Voldemort about the prophecy.'

'And with the way Severus treated Harry, no wonder he was angry. I can see now why he would leave. You never allowed us to put a stop to how Severus treated the students, especially Harry. I believe that boy would see you as betraying him and his parents for allowing that man into the school,' Minerva turned to the other people in the room, 'I would say we may not see Harry Potter again. He never liked the muggles he lived with. He faced Voldemort inside this castle and out. He now finds out that a man that harassed him constantly was the same man that sent Voldemort after his parents,' minerva turned back to her boss, 'I would say you lost the chosen one by allowing Severus into this school.'

'I believe he will return, once he's had time to calm down. He knows Severus saved him during his first year.'

'That doesn't matter Albus. This is his dead parents we're talking about. He just found out that one of the men responsible was here, tormenting him yet he sent you-know-who after him and his parents. Harry Potter will not forgive you for that, or return,' Amelia said. 'I always said that man should be locked up. It was only you that supported him, now because of that, the only person who might be able to defeat you-know-who has left,' Amelia said.

Albus did not believe Harry would abandon them. He still believed Harry just needed to calm down. He just hoped the boy returned soon especially now that Severus told him he didn't have long to live.

It was known by everyone by the following morning that Harry Potter had left. Albus told the students that Harry needed to get away after hearing some disturbing news, but he will return soon.

Yes, Harry did hear something that upset him, but Neville knew Harry would not return. Neville couldn't blame him. From his first year at Hogwarts, Harry had faced danger and almost died. Second year was the same. Third year was dementors and Sirius Black. Fourth year was the triwizard tournament and facing Voldemort. Fifth year was the ministry bad mouthing him, his trial and Umbridge. Then Harry loses the only person he thought of as family, his godfather. During all that, Harry had to put up with Snape. Now something else happened, it was just to much for Harry so he finally left.

Voldemort heard from the children of his death eaters about Harry Potter leaving Hogwarts. From what their letters said, the boy would return. This could be just what Lord Voldemort needed. He summoned all his death eaters and ordered them to find Harry Potter, at all costs.

When the students left Hogwarts for the holidays, Albus thought for sure Harry would turn up. He sat and waited all day. There was no sign of the boy. He did warn Severus that Harry found out and due to his anger, he was worried Harry might try to kill Severus. He did not want to believe Harry would ever kill but going over the memory of that night, the way Harry looked, he realised yes, Harry could easily kill Severus. He told Severus to remain in his room or potions room for the rest of the day as he needed Harry calm so he could speak with him. Severus had been able to extend his life a little longer, but not by much. Albus just hoped he got to speak with the boy before he died.

As the holidays dragged on, Albus began to lose faith that Harry would return before he died. On the day of Harry's birthday, his seventeenth birthday, Albus had again some hope that maybe Harry was waiting until he was an adult, so he would be able to stay away from the Dursley's. He had his order of the phoenix keeping an eye on Grimmauld place and Gringotts. So far, none of them had seen him.

Albus finally spoke with Severus and explained everything to him. He had no choice. He knew he would not survive another day. Severus had to find Harry, had to make the boy know that if he didn't return, it could mean the death of all his friends, of everyone he cared about. Not long after explaining everything to Severus, Albus closed his eyes and took his last breath. Severus knew there was no use looking for the boy, he had left, he would not return to help anyone. So many of the staff had tried to tell Albus that Harry Potter left, Albus refused to believe it. He kept saying Harry would return.

By the time Albus Dumbledore died, Harry was in Hawaii. This was one place he wanted to see and visit, now he thought maybe it would make a great home. He would need to check out the magical district before he decided if he would remain. But the moment he arrived, he began to relax. He was away from Voldemort, he was away from the Dursley's. He was also away from the lies, the stares, the death eaters and he was away from Hogwarts and Albus Dumbledore.

'They are now my past. I'm not even going to find out anything about what's going on there. I'm going to do what my parents would have wanted and that's live. They died so I would live, so that's what I'm going to do.'

Over the next year, things became bad in England. Lord voldemort and his death eaters had control. They killed many as they were attacking places like the ministry of magic, St Mungo's and Hogwarts. If Harry would have read any of the international newspapers, he would have read many names of people he knew, names of the people who had been killed.

But Harry stuck to what he said when he first arrived. He was not going to think about anything from his life before he arrived in Hawaii. He began a new life with a new name. Orion James Evan's was now a trainee healer working in the Hawaiian magical hospital. Not once since he left had he given any thought to what was going on in England.

Harry had no idea that there were only three Weasley's left. Harry had no idea that Hermione Granger and her parents had died. Harry had no idea that many of the ones he shared classes with were all dead. Harry stopped caring when he left Hogwarts and it had taken him this entire year before he finally felt he could move on and have a life, a decent life.

Orion James Evan's, formerly Harry Potter, now had a new name, a new look and a new life. He was not going to give it up for anyone.

The end:
