Jane wasn't too sure on how he got into a relationship with Cho. He knew that one day he had been single, as he had been for years after the death of his wife and daughter, and the next day, he was dating Cho. Of course, he knew that Cho had expressed romantic interest in him, asked him out, and Jane said yes. But it was still a confusing situation for him, especially because Red John was still alive. Why would Jane get into a relationship with Red John still out there?

Red John killed Angela and Charlotte. Red John basically killed Kristina. And then there were all his other victims. Yet Red John had hurt Jane personally, and most of the time, it was related to Jane's current romantic partner.

Yet Jane was dating Cho, and he would damn well make sure his boyfriend wouldn't get hurt by Red John. No matter what.

There was another Red John case. Being the CBI team in charge of the overall Red John case, Lisbon's team was dispatched to the crime scene. As they entered the building, Jane's gaze was immediately drawn to the smiley drawn on the wall. He had to resist the urge to smile. So it really is you. What hints will you leave behind this time?

"The victim's name was Desiree Frost," Cho said, looking over the victim's information. "She worked as an accountant and lived with her boyfriend William Fraser."

The man standing by the body with a tear streaked face nodded. "Yes, that's me."

Cho turned his gaze to the woman next to Fraser. "And you are?"

"Matilda Morgan," the woman introduced herself. "I'm William's friend."

"Friend, huh," Jane mused. Lisbon shot him a glare, clearly wanting him to shut up, but he pretended he didn't see her. "Are you sure on the friend part? Because really, I'd say that you're more than that."

"Are you…" Fraser's voice faltered before he continued, now sounding angry. "Are you saying I was having an affair with Matilda?"

"I didn't say it," Jane said. "But sure, you can interpret it that way."

Fraser made to lunge toward Jane, but Cho blocked his way. Sighing, Lisbon stepped up. "Ignore him. Where were you two during the time of the crime?"

"We were having dinner at my place," Morgan said. "We do it occasionally."

"We were not having sex," Fraser growled, glaring at Jane.

Jane shrugged. "Didn't say you were," he said.

"Jane, shut up," Lisbon said to him, despite the fact that all he did was defend himself. Rude. She turned to the suspects again. "Was the house locked when you left?"

Fraser blinked, looking confused. "Well, I don't see why it wouldn't be…"

"There were no signs of a break in," Lisbon explained. "Which either means the house wasn't locked, or she let the killer in."

"The killer," Jane said, ignoring Lisbon's earlier command for him to shut up, "is clearly Red John. That is a given. So could we refer to him by his name instead?"

"Alright," Cho said. His gaze met Jane's steadily, and Jane resisted the urge to smile, before remembering they were dating and he was allowed to smile. "Why would Frost let Red John in?"

As Lisbon and Cho continued interrogating the suspects, Jane decided to explore the rest of the house. He gently tapped Cho on the shoulder and motioned toward the door so his boyfriend would know where he was going, then he vanished from the room.

He would see what other clues Red John had left.

After he got back to CBI Headquarters, he was greeted by Cho, giving him a look. "You were gone for a long time."

"It's a Red John case," Jane replied, grinning. "I have to be on the lookout for details."

Cho continued giving him that look. "Don't let it consume you, Jane," he said.

"Alright…" Jane paused, then his smile grew. "Kimball," he tested out.

Cho didn't seem to have any problems with Jane referring to him by his first name, so Jane included that as a success.

"It's late," Cho said. "I'm leaving to get sleep."

Jane shrugged. "Alright. Night, Kimball." He began to head towards his room in the CBI building.

"Goodnight, Patrick," he heard Cho say behind him, and he smiled lightly, loving the way his name sounded on Cho's lips.

That night, Jane did not get enough sleep.

He had spent the night looking over the Red John case files and comparing them to his own observations during the most recent case. He had reviewed his observations related to the suspects - who weren't truly suspects, since the killer was obviously Red John - and realized just what their connection to each other was.

They aren't just friends. Despite what they say, they're much more than that.

Finally, as the sun began to peek over the horizon, Jane decided that a little nap was in order, so he collapsed on his bed and closed his eyes. He woke up barely 30 minutes later, to the sound of Lisbon's voice telling him that they had to investigate the suspects again. Awake and now interested in exposing William Fraser and Matilda Morgan's true connection to each other, Jane hopped out of bed.

"You're going with Cho," Lisbon announced.

Jane grinned, looking over at his boyfriend. "Great."

Cho narrowed his eyes slightly, but didn't say anything.

The two of them got into Cho's car, and the engine turned on. As Cho pulled out and began driving towards their destination (Morgan's house, where the two of them had been staying since Frost was killed in her and Fraser's house), he finally spoke up. "Go take a nap. Now."

Jane looked at him, not showing how startled he felt. "Huh?"

"You clearly didn't get much sleep last night, if you got any at all," Cho said flatly. "So try to get some now while you have time."

Jane thought for a bit, then said, "Alright, sure."

Cho immediately fell silent again. As he shifted into a more comfortable sleeping position, the consultant asked, "What about a date this Saturday?"

"You usually spend the Saturdays after Red John cases going over his files," Cho said.

Jane shrugged lightly. "Eh, thought a change would be nice."

"...it would," Cho finally said. "Yes, to the date."

Jane smiled. "Alright." Letting his eyes droop close, he fell asleep.

Revealing the fact that Fraser and Morgan shared the same sperm donor as their father, and that their constant dinners together was actually sibling bonding time as opposed to an affair, was satisfying. But not as satisfying as the date Jane knew was coming up.

Jane knew he had been putting too much focus on the Red John case lately, and he did need to relax. Good thing he had an amazing boyfriend willing to help him relax.

He just hoped Red John wouldn't come after Cho.
