Notes: I'm going to try something new to me, moving some backstory to single chapters. This way progression happens and can facilitate time skips more easily. Such chapters will happen now and then, some may even hop back a bit from Harry's time, others will jump slightly ahead. I will attempt to keep it centered on Harry for the most part. At this point though how exciting can a 5-6 year old's life be, even if a little extraordinary? Thus, these type of chapters. There will be mistakes, and I will strive to correct them at some point in the future. I feel as if this is as complete as I can make this chapter. Although I feel like I cut something off somewhere.
Thanks for the wait as well, onto the story!

Rework 11-7-2021 2:35pm PST: New readers, I have updated the story, sorry if I interrupted your reading. Shunted all Narcissa and Elizabeth scenes to here. These chapters will happen now and then. I will attempt to keep the perspective bounce to a minimum. No promises though. This chapter will be all kinds of messed up. Thank you for reading this far. Majority of the beginning will have been copied and pasted.

Chapter 5: Interlude I

OooOooOooO

OoO
Downtown London, 1985

It was a curiosity, nothing more. That's how it all started. Simple theft of a pawn shop, and no one knows what happened.

A camera recently installed far ahead of it's time, that just happened to point at the wrong direction because of bad instructions. Caught in the act, by the wrong person. She stared down at the monitor, this went above her pay grade. Still, she felt that there needed to be evidence of something... strange going on. So before submitting the evidence, she requested a copy.

Watching the process, she took a closer look at the man. Rather on the short side, straggly ginger hair. Crouched down near the door, probably had bandy legs. He walks in after somehow unlocking the door. Seen moments later walking back out. The man also appears to have grubby hands, and bloodshot eyes. Plenty of homeless, many turning to petty theft. This case though was curious due to the fact that in one instance he was there, the next few frames gone. It was like someone tampered with the video, or there was a problem with the equipment.

The thief took none of the money, just a few items that had been pawned off earlier. Not that it was an expensive theft, the owner said they wouldn't have been worth much, but it was the principle of the matter. Copy in hand, she submits the evidence, and passes the information up. Noting the inconsistency, and the strange ending. She turned just in time to be surprised by a man with a stick in her face!

Jumping awake, she groaned in displeasure. Falling asleep at her desk again! She looks around, everyone had a tired look in their eyes, dazed. It was just one of those days. Grabbing her bag, she was surprised to feel a thump. Looking inside was a video with the word 'evidence copy!'. "How in the! Where?"

"Hey, Elizabeth, you going out with us tonight? It's the weekend." One of her coworkers asked, gesturing to the door.

Elizabeth shook her head, holding up her bag. "No, somehow I've got an evidence copy cassette in my bag I must have forgotten to turn in. I'll probably be late, maybe some other time yeah?" The coworker nods in sympathy before heading out.

Making her way to the evidence room, she tries to return it. Records indicate the copy was real, logs show that it was her that submitted the original, but there was no original anywhere to be found! She and the worker search hard for evidence. The only thing there was the video box sleeve. The only thing left to do was make another copy, and keep it hidden. Watching the video, it was curious. The man simply vanishes from a few frames! Elizabeth would need to visit the scene of the crime, to interview the owner.

With someone tampering with evidence, it was decided she would keep the original copy. It would appear she was working overtime now.

Malfoy Residence, 1985

Narcissa stared out the window, contemplating her future. Four years since the fall of the 'Dark Lord', and nothing has been done. What with Millicent Bagnold's failing health, and Dark Trust at an all time low. The Progressives were nearly in shambles, but still a threat. The Neutrals were wary, and the Conservatives still in power, led by Albus Dumbledore. The Traditionalists were all but defeated. Nothing has changed since before the civil war.

Then there was her husband, throwing away the family's fortune to cover his hide! With a snarl the woman made her way to her study.

She passed the training room, giving it a worried glance. 'Lucius was convinced that he could teach Draco the family values, and had taken her boy to train him. It worried her, seeing his current track record. It had to be that stupid French thing, hasn't Lucius heard of an Heir and a Spare? She had tried many times to get another child, the dark lord though waits for none, and her husband was called multiple times. Now though, there was no excuse, and he still dodged her. Does he really think Draco could lead the family to greatness when he had failed himself? Sure Draco was powerful, but at this age?'

Narcissa knew you didn't teach family magics until after the age of thirteen, mainly to see if one child is better suited to learn than another. 'It's why most families try to have large families. It's why Bellatrix was taught the more destructive magics after Andromeda had been disowned, to make her seem more powerful.'

She would need to bring this up at some point, maybe even bring up The Contract that had been forced onto her. Narcissa continued on, pondering the situation.

'At first I didn't mind the thing, proudly taking Andromeda's place, willing to make the family proud. Andromeda was the most powerful of the Sister's Black, and politically smart. Andy had been groomed to lead the cadet branch back to it's former glory. Father Cygnus felt that it was time again to introduce new blood to the family, and had chosen the heir of the frenchman, Lucius Malfoy. Bellatrix was too wild for that union, and I was being groomed to be a Lestrange. The Malfoy family had to 'import' brides, or join with the lesser families. Trying to make their way into the Ancient and Noble houses.'

She frowned, remembering the shake up, and how it affected everything.

'Things changed though when Andy went and eloped that muggleborn Ted Tonks, soon after her second courtship with Lucius. My contract had shifted, and my training was rushed and reworked. The contract was more lax in conditions, and the price was higher. I was to provide an heir to the Blacks, and then the Malfoys. I was to ensure the heir/heiress was taught the proper protocols, and to increase the Black Family name. That I had marry Lucius Malfoy, to cover the shame Andromeda left behind.'

Now though, she was starting to see that perhaps Andy was right to flee. 'Lucius had already breached the contract multiple times, and was most likely hanging in there by the skin of his french teeth. He was to provide an heir for the cadet branch, and only for the cadet branch before his own family. Lucius seemed to forget that bit. Had the Dark Lord won, perhaps the head of family could have overlooked his bowing to another.' Now though, Narcissa doubted that. There was also the fact that he wasn't allowing her to provide for the family as she wanted to. Se growled out, "To merely be a trophy wife!"

'Did he not realize his status was reliant on her alone? The only reason he was feared was because of his father Abraxus Malfoy who had cut his way into his minor prestige. The Malfoy name only brought a Hogwarts Governor seat, and questionable riches. With Andy disowned, Bellatrix in prison with the Primary Heir Sirius Black, and the unknown fate of Regulus Black, it might just fall to Me and My son.'

With that thought she slowed down. 'Draco or James Potter's son, Harry. Grandson to Dorea Black, Harry's claim was just as strong as Draco's. If rumors were true, then even Godson to the Primary Heir! As good as Heir to the Black family! This went beyond the plans of Cygnus, her Paterfamilias needed this information!'

Narcissa picked up her pace, there was a letter to write. The Paterfamilias needed to know what was going on in the last five years. Lord Arcturus Black III held more authority to get things sorted than her father did.

OoO
Elizabeth's Apartment

"It was frustrating! The man at the pawn shop had no recollection of even filing a theft report. The logs indicated that nothing was stolen. The owner of the shop decided it wasn't too important. I had investigated the camera that the tape supposedly came from, it was now facing a different direction. When I questioned the tech guys they said it has always been pointed at the bank. Sort of an auxiliary camera. When I inquired about the tape, they said it was broken beyond repair and was disposed of. Which made no sense seeing that we had the original in storage!

I tried following the standard procedure, retracing possible footsteps. Ultimately it ends right back at Evidence storage. It was maddening! I explained to a coworker about it, from there it took off. People were skeptical about it until I was forced to show them what was on it. Then people started calling it the haunted tape. This wasn't a joking matter!

Still, I decided it was probably best to keep the tape hidden for now. I've decided it was probably best kept in The Thing cassette sleeve for now. I've got to go to work tomorrow, something about an emergency meeting. All hands on deck apparently."

Elizabeth looked down at her journal, 'When the hell did I write this!' There she was at her bedside looking at her recent entry, dated last night! With a jump she went to her movie collection, looking for 'The Thing', pulling it out and checking. Sure enough, an evidence tape with a 'copy' stamp.

She shakily sat back down on her couch. "What the hell is going on!"

For now, Elizabeth would keep the tape a secret, and make quiet inquiries about it. She had watched it, to see what was so important about it, seeing the thief vanish. Clearly something was going on, if this truly was the second time this happened.

When she brought up the meeting, no one had any idea what she was talking about. Elizabeth would definitely keep this a secret then, being on the look out for other strange happenings. Elizabeth's attempts were resisting the Obliviation spell.

She had gotten a reply back, and it was worrying. The letter was addressed to her specifically, maiden name instead of married, sealed with the Black Signet. It was delivered directly by house elf as well. She would need blood to open it. The letter felt lighter than expected as well.

Ensuring that she wouldn't be disturbed, Narcissa went back to her study. Three drops of blood saw to it the letter was opened. Only a square of parchment was in. With shaking hands she read it.

Narcissa Walburga Black,

You, Draco Abraxas, and your consort are to visit the Black Manor in regards to the Black Family. Immediately.

I expect a reply back before your arrival.

Your Lord,
Arcturus Black III

She paled in fear, the Paterfamilias was not a man of many words. Even then, his letters were usually more refined than this. "LUCIUS!"

There was much to be done, and not much time to do it in! It took a week to set things in motion, then they went to see the Head of Black.

Things had changed since the visit to the Black Manor, Lord Black was a calculative person, and he was after something in the long term. With the verbal lashing he gave Lucius, Arcturus gave a task to Narcissa. "See to it that you get Sirius Orion Black out of Azkaban. Once you have done that, then we shall see about getting Dorea's grandson back into the fold. Do not interfere though if that old goat is watching, or any of his lackeys. We shall talk more after those tasks are complete. You will teach your boy the ways of the Black. Do not fail me Narcissa Black."

"Yes my Lord." With a curtsy she was dismissed.

Now back at home, she had some pointed words with her husband, some of them rather strong. Lucius beat a hasty retreat to his study, having been reminded that there were other bigger fish in the sea.

Narcissa was left to ponder her next steps. Draco was fine for now, the hous elf was there to keep an eye on him with orders to intervene of the boy seemed like he was in danger. "Dobby!"

"Yes Mistress Malfoy? You's be calling Dobby?" The elf had seen better days probably, wearing a worn out pillow case, his bulbous green eyes staring up at Narcissa.

"Watch over Draco, there is some business I need to attend to. Do not let any harm befall my son." with that Narcissa dismissed the elf, feeling disgust at how the Malfoy family treated their servants. It was almost as bad as Walburga's side of the family.

'How in merlin's name do I get Sirius Black out of Azkaban? This required more than one head on the matter. There was always the Black Connections, they have been declined as of late though since the rise of the Dark Lord.' Narcissa paced about before coming to a decision. "First the Greengrass, they're usually neutral in most things. It would be a start."

Narcissa checked on her husband and son before moving on with her plan, making her way to the floo room. Taking a generous pinch of the powder she called out. "Greengrass Hall!" With that taken care of, she had a few errands to run. It had been a week since that fiasco, she had connections to remake. This was one of them. Narcissa was hopeful that the old crowd were still open to communication.

OoO
Elizabeth

Elizabeth was taking a break from the old reports, having retreated to the local cafe shop. "There are too many reports like it. How can there be much evidence but no one or thing to show for it!"

Currently she was working on a notebook of strange events. "Vanishing people, day time owls, even multiple accounts of a triple decker bus breaking the traffic laws!"

"But it's true! The teacher's hair was blue! I swear by it!"

Elizabeth perked up, listening carefully to the booth behind her.

"Please, you were driving weren't you? How could you be so sure?"

"Because I was at a stop sign! I swear, one moment the teacher's hair was greying red, then it was bright blue!"

"Yeah, and I'm the next Queen of England, get real Johnny. Maybe it was a wig, have you thought of that?"

"Well it must be one hell of a wig then! It was the exact same hair style!"

"And how long did you get a look? Two seconds? It could have been a trick of the eye."

"Yeah yeah, laugh it up, I know what I saw."

With that the two left, leaving a somewhat bewildered Elizabeth behind.

'Why haven't these event's been reported?' Elizabeth thought to herself, adding it to her notes. Elizabeth made her way out, bumping into someone just as they apparated, taking her along for the ride.

It was sheer luck that it was a red headed man that was curious about muggle things.

OoO
Hogwarts

The Headmaster was going through his memories once more, figuring there was something that was overlooked. It was constantly niggling at the back of the mind. "Blast that Riddle boy. Possession can't be done with someone who had split their soul! Of all the idiotic things he could have done, to challenge death, of all the beings to defy! Just like that fool Cadmus of all people... almost exactly like Cadmus."

The old man stopped, frozen for a moment in horror and understanding. "No. That can't be right?"

Dumbledore rushed to his private library, searching for the right book. Any information on the Peverells, ignoring majority about The Hollows. Instead looking up family trees, especially if Cadmus had any children. "Just what I needed, that fool to have sired an heir! It was bad enough finding out Ignotus had heirs, but Cadmus to have sired children as well would be preposterous!"

"The new project is now a long term endeavor, how could I have missed the signs! The grooming of a replacement would take a terrible turn if Riddle was some descendant of Cadmus Peverell! Enough, you'll be dealt with in time, so shut it!" The wear and tear of constant possession was draining the man of his strength. "A solution must be found!"

With that Dumbledore flung another useless book, 20th Century Alchemy, to the side.

Elizabeth

As much as she didn't want to admit it, she was still in awe of a whole world hidden in plain sight. For the last couple of months she had learned about the magical world from a man named Arthur Weasley. The man was just as surprised as she was when they both appeared outside his house. It was pure luck that he was the kind and curious type. Arthur Weasley learned just as much from her about the normal world as she learned of the magical. The exchange helped clear some misunderstandings, improving his work as a whole.

Today was a special day, the day she would get a break on her mystery tape. Arthur Weasley was going to be stopping by to have a look, perhaps see if there was anything to be done about it. It made her nervous though, especially after finding out that nonmagicals shouldn't know of the magical world, and for many reasons according to both sides of history. 'That they had laws to enforce memory wipes of normal people!'

Elizabeth was assured that she wouldn't be memory wiped, again. She was a bit too valuable of an asset, for now. It was nearing the time for the meeting to begin. Arthur knew she lived here, having dropped her off via Knight Bus, the infamous vanishing Triple Decker in various reports.

There was a knock at her door, Elizabeth opens it. She was not expecting another person however to come along with Arthur.

"So you're the Muggle that Arthur can't stop talking about. I know you, you are the repeat case we had recently." Said a rather severe looking woman, her monocle glinting in the light. "Sorry about that, but the law is the law. You understand right, being in law enforcement. Amelia Bones at your service, I'm a... Chief Officer if you will. Most call me the Head of the Department of Law Enforcement, you may call me Madam Bones."

Elizabeth felt like shaking, and could feel herself become pale. 'This is it, everything I learned will be gone again... By their Chief Officer no less!'

"Yes, this is Elizabeth, she is a... detective? She somehow overcame the memory charms placed upon her about a theft. That is why we are here Madam Bones." Arthur explained, looking around the apartment curiously, more controlled than he used to be.

"Right, well show us this evidence if you will Detective Elizabeth." Madam Bones gestured, keeping herself in check.

"U-Um... Right! The video! If you come this way, have a seat and I'll set this up." Elizabeth was worried, but set that aside, this was important. It was also important that she be a good host as well, once everyone was settled in the video was ready.

They watched the video, some recognition on their faces. "Incredible, that Muggles have made something like a pensieve... Tell me Elizabeth, are these things rare?"

"Er, no, I mean you can't exactly go out to a shop and buy these security cameras whenever you want. It requires contracting, money, and paperwork. Only companies with significant assets can get these currently. Such as banks, factories, large companies, shops, and private businesses. Probably the wealthy as well. There are talks however of making the technology cheaper for the general populace. These security cameras will spread in time, they have the capability to record hours of video at a time, some places have multiple cassettes to record entire days at a time." It was then Elizabeth studied Madam Bone's face, it was one of worry.

"These security cameras can record? Days at a time you say? They will also become more popular if given time? How long are we talking Detective Elizabeth."

"Well, it may be as little as five years at this rate. Technology is catching up, as well as the resources needed. This video cassette player costs about £160, when it first released about ten years ago it cost about £960, they say that every household might have a VHS player in the next five years and prices might go down to £60. We can also film and record with camcorders, although they cost about £550." Elizabeth stopped at the ashen look of Madam Bones.

"Arthur, for a mere 320g muggles could record things like a pensieve records memories! This is a massive possible breach of the Statute of Secrecy! Detective Elizabeth, thank you for your time, we shall make our way out." With that Madam Bones got up ready to leave.

With wide eyes Elizabeth stopped her for a moment. "W-Wait! What about this person? The thief!"

"We shall deal with Mundungus Fletcher, thank you for reminding me. Come Arthur we have much to discuss."

"Thats it? No questioning, interviews, or information gathering?"

"We got what we needed to know. Unless you have more information." Madam Bones replied.

"Well... There is also something important coming up to do with another form of instant communication." With a feint smile Elizabeth continued on, acutely aware of Madam Bones' anxiety of such a thing. "There is much to cover, if what you say about secrecy is true. I'm just a detective, there are agencies more dedicated than I that can probably explain it better."

It would be a long evening, one that benefited both parties.

OoO

Narcissa

It took some doing, and the Black Connections were weakening. Still, she pulled through. Narcissa was confident that this could be pulled off on one side. Now she needed some way to get the Conservatives and the Neutrals on her side. The fact that this was an Heir to an Ancient House might help.

She would need some comprehensive proof of some kind to persuade others.

Narcissa had checked through various reports and files in the archives. There was evidence of Sirius Black being processed for Azkaban, but nothing solid, it would take ages to search through since it may well be signed and counter signed by some people in some high places making it impossible to summon. A security measure. "A very annoying security measure at that. It looks like someone is tampering with this case. It reeks of foul play."

With a twist of her wand, the files arranged themselves back near where they came from, shuffling around some. With a firm nod she left the archives, it was time to do some feeling out of the neutrals and other factions.

"How could muggles advance so far? To have landed on the moon for meriln's sake!"

Narcissa paused, that wasn't a normal conversation topic, she peered around the corner to see Madam Bones walking with Arthur Weasley, they seemed worried enough to continue listening.

"As fascinating as that discovery is Arthur, I'm a bit more worried about these cassette players and cameras. It would seem that we might need to expand upon some core classes. We might even need to update many laws at this point!"

"You know as well as I Amelia that the conservatives won't approve such a thing. They still believe that rural muggles haven't developed flight yet. Let alone inside plumbing!"

"And you think otherwise? The last I heard those Germans created something called the Hindenburg, and it went down in a ball of flames. They were quite slow, and costly to produce. Other than that, there were biplanes from the muggle Great War or some such."

"That's not true, remember the war with Grindlewald back in the 1940s? Some of those attacks that were believed to be from his forces that blew up entire houses and alleys? Well it turns out that history may not be as we were told. The muggles were at war at the same time, and Germany was bombing the U.K. with 'bombing planes'. They would drop literal tons of explosives as high up as the new cleansweeps could fly up, and they had hundreds if not thousands of such planes. They had two wings as opposed to four. That was the time muggleborns started to mass exodus to the Americas or Australia. Many went missing through the war, it was assumed that they were being recruited by Grindlewald or killed by him."

"How could that be, the muggles couldn't have advanced so far in a short span of twenty years! The types of bombs they had were something called Tee and Tee or something like that. They couldn't even be wet!"

"No Amelia, Elizabeth took me to the muggle museum, their bombs look totally different from what we believe them to be. Imagine a metal barrel with a rounded top, and some kind of cone with a... a box around it on the bottom. Weighing in at two hundred thousand kilograms of explosive. It would make Erumpent fluid look like a fillibuster firecracker in comparison. They also made those artillery cannons smaller, but hit harder, and more precisely. Those muggles also turned musket rifles into something called belt fed machine gun. Don't ask, it was a far over my head, imagine shooting more than five spells per second, I know Albus can shoot at least a spell a second if he really needed to. I don't think though he could keep up with that. Muggle guns for their military can shoot up to one hundred rounds per second!"

"Arthur, you really aren't making our case easier to believe in! Lets just stick to their recording stuff for now. How do we explain it to the Wizengamot?"

"Well, muggles created a camera that acts like our own, but can record days at a time instead of a few seconds that our news papers do. Also that they can record sound sometimes. They are far cheaper than current cameras that we use, and far more cheaper than a pensieve, and will become cheaper and more broadly accessible in the next ten years."

"It's a start I suppose. Which still doesn't solve the problem of getting the traditionalists or conservatives on our side."

This was her time to shine, stepping into view Narcissa called out. "Perhaps I can help with that Madam Bones, Mr. Weasley."

"How much did you hear Madam Malfoy."

"Enough to know you need the Traditionalists on your side, just as I need the Neutrals on mine. I too have some... Compelling evidence for a case that needs review. Perhaps we can come to a understanding."

"Very well, come, we are going to my office, it's a bit more secure than this hallway apparently."

It would take a couple of weeks to put together the cases to bring forth to the Wizengamot. One that would drive home the need for a more progressive stance on the Statute of Secrecy. The other to hopefully free a possibly innocent man.

OoO
Longbottom Residence

There had been an emergency meeting called for the Wizengamot, Augusta and her brother had to go attend leaving Neville alone with some other relative. To ensure that the boy hadn't gotten into any trouble the relative decided to do an impromptu family lesson. "See here Neville, your family has been accomplished in many things in it's long history. Most notably their times as druids!"

For some reason this got into the boy's mind. "What's a druid?"

"Well, druids were advisors for their clan. They were also lorekeepers, medicine men, and leaders in their own right. Sure they weren't as many warriors as many family histories go, but they supported the community in many ways none the less. Those born with magic however, were special. They kept the peace by prophetic insight, feeling the natural magic of areas, and were revered for their wisdom. Throughout the family history the Longbottoms were considered the best practitioners of healing magic, as well as some magical agriculture."

"Then why was father an Auror?"

"Well, he was also a leader of sorts you know. He was a rising hero with the likes of the Potters. People turned to him for guidance, if it wasn't for the tragedy, your father might well have been the department head, if not a runner up for minster for magic! Your mother Alice was a nice match for him, she was great at potions, but her talents lay with the greenhouse keeping."

The boy thought about it for a moment, attempting to come to terms with what he had heard. Still, the thought of druids wouldn't leave his mind. "Who was the last druid in the family? If they are so revered then why isn't any mentioned or called upon in the last war?"

"I'm... not sure Neville, lets go look around, maybe the last one in the family could be in the family records."

It took some searching, along with that plenty of revelations as well. There were some surprising alliances made in times of old, between the Longbottoms there wasn't a family that wasn't allied with them at least a few times. The Longbottoms have been through every conflict in the thick of things, often times there in many of the peace talks. There were even some that even joined up with dark lords! Still, there wasn't any recent druids in the last hundred years or so.

"Well Neville, it appears that the last known Druid was in the very late 1800's, and they weren't active much. It looks like they didn't have much in the way of support either."

"Well that's not right! If there were Druids around, then maybe Mum and Dad wouldn't be like this!"

"Who knows Neville, besides, that's what the Wizengamot is for, to make decisions based on the betterment of the wizarding world. I don't think there would be any use for druids in this time." They were cut off, being surprised by the conviction of the young boy.

"Well if there are no druids, then maybe I'll be a druid! There won't be another Dark Lord around if I have anything to say about it!" Neville declared, his hazel eyes shining with power, his appearance shifting as if in a light breeze.

Neville's first external bout of magic was more impressive than it would have been.

The boy had left the relative behind in a bit of awe, in search of more books on druids and how to become one.

Later on in the day he practices one of the beginning techniques, the ability to sense nature to a degree. It was like a whole new world to the boy, everything felt alive and so overwhelming. It would not deter the boy however, he would delve into druidism, learning what he could.

His grandmother would be shocked, yet proud of what was to come. Currently however, there were things stirring in the Wizengamot.

OoO
Wizengamot

"You are telling me Albus Dumbledore, that you had deliberately filed away Sirius Orion Black for Azkaban without a trial!" There was many a shocked face in the stands. The meeting was well under way now. Due to conflict of interest Albus Dumbledore had to ceed his position to the appointed second.

"Well, as you can see, the counter signature was Barty Crouch senior, who was the head of the department at the time. Besides that, Sirius Black had admitted to the crime according to Barty."

"I understand that we were in a crises situation Dumbledore. However, every single person has had their day in court to plead their case! Even that foreigner, Karkroff, had a trial. You can not tell me that Sirius Black is a sole exception to that law!"

"I was under the impression that Sirius Black had gotten a trial and that I needed to sign off on it. Bartemius Crouch was a good head of the department, and I had assumed that he went through the standard procedure." Before he could continue on the current temporary warlock cut in.

"You can not just sign off on such a thing, without a trial Dumbledore! This is unjust, unruly, and inhumane! This shows that you are an incompetent Chief Warlock, if this is how you will act in future cases! Not to mention overriding the Potter Wills! Oh yes, we had to dig around for quite some time to come up with that little tidbit! Your previous actions are quite questionable, and casts much doubt about you! I say we put this to a vote in the next session, should Albus Dumbledore continue his role as Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot, or should we replace him with someone with a far better sense of character."

There were many murmurings in the court across the many factions. There was much a Hero could get away with, however this went beyond that.

"Now, back to the subject at hand. Those in favor for hearing the case of Sirius Black, say Aye!"

It was near unanimous. "Those opposed?"

There would be none, a few abstained, but anyone would be crazy to let this slide, it could after all happen to them! "Very well. We of the Wizengamot shall give Sirius Orion Black, accused of the multiple murders, both Magical and Muggle, a fair trial set for next week. As to give the defendant some time to recover from the effects of Azkaban to be presentable. Bartimus Crouch Sr., you are to be available for questioning as well! We shall move on to the next piece of business, brought to us by Amelia Bones. That of the Statute of Secrecy, and possible future breaches. Madam Bones if you will."

"Lords, Ladies, Reagents of the Wizengamot, I come bearing some solemn news regarding the Statute for Secrecy, and possible glaring issues."

"I knew it! The muggleborns can not be trusted! I have told you all so for as long as I've been in this chair!" Someone cried out, a few others nodding along, others whispering to each other, more still however confused about the outburst.

With three loud cracks of a wand people settled down to see Madam Bones standing there disapproving. "No, this has nothing to do with the Muggleborns, muggle raised, nor any particular groups. This has to do solely with Muggle advancement over the years. We have perhaps been remiss to ignore the muggle advancements in the last decade, let alone the last century. Who here has recently been out into muggle London? And not just to access the wizarding world but to actually take a good long look around."

There was much quiet murmuring going on all around. With a nod she continued, "As I thought, the muggles are a noisy lot, and should be ignored at every convenience right?"

"That's right! They should be made to accommodate us!"

"Muggles are no better than us! We must not ridicule them, let alone antagonize them!"

There was much louder talking, the various factions starting to shout over each other. It was with a few more bangs that everyone settled down.

"That is quite enough! I am here to give you all a severe wake up call! Tell me, where did the idea of photographs come from? The Knight Bus? How about the Hogwarts Express, The Wizarding Wireless, The Gramophone, how about the lifts we use to move about from department to another? Anyone?"

"These items were donated to us! By esteemed members of our society! The muggles simply copied us as time progressed! My Ancestor Ottaline Gambol graciously donated the Hogwarts Express for use, to get our children to Hogwarts back in the 1830s! The muggles simply copied us!"

"The WWN was also donated, by my Great Grandfather, back in the early 1900s. What is your point Madame Bones."

There were many affronted comments, others calling out inventions that were donated by their families, not to be outdone.

"Yes, yes, very well. I am here to tell you that all of these things, are all muggle inventions before they were ever wizard." This caused another another outcry of denials. She had to use a sonorus charm to make herself heard, speaking over them as she listed them off. "There has been steam locomotives around since early 1800, the invention of the radio came about in the 1890s. The Knight Bus was created in the 1870s, near 20 years After the invention of the original double decker buses you see muggles currently use. The gramophone was also invented in the late 1800s, and never seen public use until the very early 1900s."

People were still in denial, with a frustrated sigh Amelia enlarged a photo copy of another train, this immediately got everyone's attention, she also pulled out a paper note. "This here, is called the... LGV Sud-Est, can anyone tell me how fast the hogwarts express can move? Anyone?"

There was a fair few calling out things. "Slower than a broom!" "Faster than walking, that's for sure!"

"Very well, I shall tell you. I had a talk with the conductor, it can reach up to 80 kilometers per hour, to put that into perspective the new Comet 260 can reach a max speed of 136 kmh. The Express can go faster in an emergency, up to 95 km/h, at the cost of repairs to it's rails and wheels. This train, the LGV, can reach speeds up to 300 km/h, and can carry more than the Hogwarts express. Those muggle trains you see at King's cross can reach speeds up to 200 km/h. From what I understand, the Germans are attempting to develop something called the Hanover-Wurzburg HSR that could go in theory 350 km/h, maybe faster."

This shut the people up, they contemplated the picture, wondering how such a large thing could move that fast. There was much confusion when another picture came up, this one was strange in that half of the picture was black, the rest had many grainy details.

"This, is the first ever picture taken of the Earth, back in 1946 from one of those... V-2 rockets. This picture is taken near 20 years later, upon something called... The Lunar Orbiter I, as it passed the moon on it's 16th orbit." There were many a breath taken at the second picture, the idea that something like this could be achieved. With a sigh, Bones put up a third picture next to them, this one actually nailed home that feeling. "And finally, this is taken six years later, taken by a Crew upon a space shuttle known as the Apollo 17, who were on their way to the moon!"

Silence was the only sound in response to the declaration.

"Camera's have gotten better over the years. They also are also no longer single framed pictures. Photography has currently evolved to something called Video Cameras, that can record hours, even days at a time. Here is an example of something they had in the early 1920's."

With that a couple of her assistants brought in a projector, a couple fumbled with the film. It looked cumbersome, and quite complicated to set up. There was a screen put up, before the device started working. It was some kind of black and white film from ages back, every other scene had quick words describing what was going on, as well as dialogue. there was no sound other than the reels turning and the device going. The film wasn't overly long either.

"So muggles figured out a way to make moving pictures. What's the big deal here?"

"Keep in mind, this is from near sixty years ago, do you think this is the extent of what they can do? From what I understand the technology has simply gotten better since. If you will bring exhibit A and B." There was more devices brought in, these looked far smaller than the original device. "Exhibit A, this object is a portable recording device used to make films. Notice it looks... More than the previous device. This particular model is carried on the shoulder of a person, and must be plugged into an electrical plug to work. The film must be changed every eight hours of 'filming'. Some can film as much as twelve hours though. This is cumbersome, and only used in 'movie' production. It's secondary use though, is important."

"When connected properly, don't ask how as I am unfamiliar with this, they can broadcast live like the WWN, but with images, and sound. This allows them to spread news faster than before on a device known as the 'television'. Every day at multiple set points throughout the day they broadcast noteworthy events. The first international broadcast happened near twenty years ago. This technology will get better with time."

"As such, Exhibit B, notice that this one is far Less than Exhibit A. However, it is just as capable, as well as portable. These particular models are used for personal recording of events. Used both by their News Agencies, Law Enforcement, Private companies, and the wealthy among them. What makes this model more interesting is that it is run by some kind of battery, making it far more portable, the imagery leaves much to be desired compared to the other professional models. From what I understand, these models will become smaller, and cheaper to produce. For a mere 200 galleons converted to muggle money, I was able to purchase this portable one through secondary channels, used. Newer products cost near double of this one. It is expected in the next five to ten years that these models will become considerably cheaper. For certain models, they can be permanently wired to a recording device away from the camera."

Madam Bones brought forth a report, adding it to the projector spell. "This is a report about a theft, the thief has been handled, but the fact remains that this was filed twice, and kept in secret after two obliviations. Mainly because of redundancy as well as pure luck. The written report had been destroyed, everyone involved had their memory wiped, and the evidence confiscated. Except for one copy that none realized was made. The second time around, the copy was shown once more, but everyone confused about the theft because there was no report, and all involved peoples memory wiped. The one detective had made a personal log about the copy, before having her memory wiped once more. Because of her log, she kept it to herself, and investigated what she could. It was pure luck she had run into the head of misuse of muggle artifacts instead of some other element. That is what brings me here today, for I have met with this detective, and they had much to share about the advancements of muggle technology."

"Hold up! That's Mundungus Fletcher that is! Why isn't he here facing charges himself!" There was much talk about that fact, the person was well known as a peddler.

"Irrelevant, that case is taken care of, and they reside in holding. The point being, that there is no one person to blame for the advancement of muggle technology. This is going to happen regardless if we mess with the relevant companies based in the United Kingdoms. Even if we took this to the I.C.W. to get this taken care of, there are further countries that are outside of I.C.W. jurisdiction. Especially those in Imperial China, as well as the Clans of Japan. We either face the music and get with the times, or be left behind and found out eventually."

There was a brief pause, everyone struck with all this information. Then pandemonium erupted, it would be a long session.

Potion's Study

His little experiment had proven useful. There was a distinct lack of potions mishaps soon after that as well. Things were looking up. Avoiding his Main office did wonders for his personality as well. Although the hurt snapped back now and then, Snape was semi-content. It had taken some serious soul searching, but in the end he decided it was best to just move on with life, maybe advance his potions knowledge in the mean time.

"Professor Snape? Is now a bad time?"

Looking up from his notebook, Snape recalled that he was doing a tutor session this day. Clearing his throat he replied, "No, just contemplating the future. This session we will take a look into the Wit Sjharpening potion in detail, and why we don't simply use it for everyday tasks. Only dunderheads and fools do so, and at detrimental cost to their health. As with many other 'helpful' potions, be it for utility or medical use." With that they started the brewing process, going through the steps as they went along.

This was a far cry from Slughorn's classes and 'sessions', Snape wasn't here to cultivate favors and connections. He was here to bring about a new age of potion masters, and if it meant personally tutoring some students then so be it. This current session was running late, but the student had learned much, and had much potential. They were in the final stages of bottling and testing.

"As you can see, there are subtle changes of color with the quality of ingredients. The more pale it looks, the more potent it will be when used immediately, while those rich in color will need time to mature, which is perfect for Madam Pomfrey's needs as they will sit for a while in storage before seeing use. The medical use of wit-sharpening potion is to aid in head injuries, especially against concussions and shock. Be warned however, it has a somewhat short storage life, even under preservation enchantments, of two full lunar cycles. The strength of the potion is determined by the sun's position. Those made in summer will be noticeably stronger than those made in winter."

After confirming that they understood Snape continued, "You will now show me the proper way to fill one dosage, starting now." Demanding but fair, the way it should be.

"That will be all for this meeting. Next session we will be working on the long term storage of certain ingredients. Remember to come with the appropriate equipment."

"Alright then Professor... If I may say... You have improved as a teacher in the last two years. Ha... I remember dreading coming to your class once. Look at me now, one of your best students on their way to becoming a healer. How crazy is that? Anyway, see you next time Professor Snape!" With that they left in a somewhat embarrassed hurry. If they had looked back, they would have seen a sight.

Severus Snape was stunned, if his gaping mouth was any indication. With a click, he decided to continue on tidying the room. He was in the process of moving some furniture from his class to an old class when a certain wardrobe caught his attention. It was the same one in use when Slughorn was a professor, when he and Lily were doing their experiments. With a somewhat bittersweet smile he opened the somewhat dusty door. It took a moment of searching but he had found their old school book.

"Advanced Potion-Making, Libatius Borage," His face turned sour when he seen the first page. "This book is the Property of the Half Blood Prince."

He flipped through the pages, trying to remember where they both had signed it. Of course it was near the end of the book. His breath caught once he seen her somewhat messy scrawl, "She never did get the hang of writing with a quill, at least the last time I seen it."

Deciding that this was a bit too open for his tastes, Professor Snape went to his room to contemplate the find.

Setting aside a firewhiskey, he carefully took out a picture from his study drawer. It was one of him and a red headed teen smiling at the camera. He contemplates the past and the future. "Perhaps, it was a good thing I found this book." he said aloud, wincing at his cutting spell that was carelessly added later on. Snape would spend a couple of hours going through the book as meticulously as possible, copying their notes on a separate parchment. The handful of spells were kept elsewhere. The book itself would remain in his private collection.

No one was there to witness the tear drops, or the quiet sobs. Nor would anyone have noticed his resolve to move on. With a sigh, Snape turned in for the night, for the first time, putting the picture in a frame, and on his bedside table.

It would be one of the most restful nights he had in ages.

OooOooO
The Burrow

Ron was bored. Simple as that, also he was attempting to get away from chores and his siblings.

It didn't quite work out, but he would take walking with his baby sister over the Twins, or even Percy. Currently they were walking along the hills near the Burrow. Normally they would tell anyone they were going out this far, and they had. Only they told Charlie who was distracted by Percy who was whining about the twins doing something to his clothes. It was the summer and everyone was home, Bill had retreated early to his room to avoid the drama under the guise of homework.

Looking back at the house, Ron realized that Bill was indeed in his room, and he was keeping an eye on them. With a wave Bill continued his work, glancing their way now and then.

A bit safer that at least someone knows where they were, Ron continued walking with a babbling Ginny. She had recently gotten back from visiting with the Lovegoods, and was talking about some kind of creature.

It was getting dark, but not enough to worry about it just yet, the sun was slowly setting. They decided it would be fun to watch it from atop of the hill. There was even a couple of boulders there to sit on.

That was when it happened.

The world seemed to blur, and everything went funny. Nothing much else seemed to change other than that however.

"Ahem... Can I be of service young ones?"

Standing and turning around they seen the strangest thing they had ever seen. It was a woman with hair like fire, yet her skin was a pleasant green tone, her eyes though were a captivating honey color that seemed to glow with the setting sun. She was motherly in appearance, a kind if tired looking face. They weren't fooled however, they seen the bow slung on her back, and a dagger each at her hips.

The Burrow was still there, but faded, like it was part of a dream.

"Ah, I'm sorry if I startled you. You must be part of that household I presume? It has been a few ages since one of your kind has crossed the realm... and yet, you haven't completely crossed over have you? Allow me to introduce myself, I am known as Diana the Fair, descendant of Diana the Huntress. May I know your names?"

Before Ron could object Ginny spoke up for the both of them, in that phase of life where full names were interesting. "I'm Ginerva Molly Weasley, and that is Ronald Bilius Weasley! Wow! Are you a fairy? Luna was talking about some of the creatures that the fairies have!"

"Oh? And what creatures are those?"

"Well, she talks about something about the snorkack?"

Reeling back in shock Diana hisses a bit. "Why would anyone want to go looking for those?! They are little more than vermin in our culture, always getting in our crops."

"I don't know, they are cute maybe?" Ginny was a bit less sure now after hearing that. "They can't be worse than garden gnomes right? They tend to mess with everything in our yard, we usually have to clear them out as chores! Dad says that we mustn't kill them, but they keep coming back!"

"Garden Gnomes you say? We haven't had any of these guardians for an age, how would we acquire some? It would severely help keep our crops in check. I suppose Crumple-horned Snorkacks can be considered cute, they are quite large, but seem to fear garden gnomes for some reason. Perhaps a fair trade? A group of garden gnomes for a small herd of snorkacks?"

"Hold on, let me talk to my sister real quick, Ginny..." without waiting he grabbed his sister closer whispering harshly to her. "What are you doing? We don't know her, and remember, mum and dad said not to talk to strangers!"

"Oh come off it Ron, she's not going to hurt us, besides the Burrow is right there!"

"I don't think we can get back there Ginny! That isn't our Burrow, I don't know where we are, and we don't know if she is safe! Look at her, she has a bow and knives!"

"So what? How often do you get to meet a real fairy! Maybe if we be her friend she will teach us how to use them."

Ron looked back at the Burrow, Bill was there looking at his desk, not moving. It was like time was frozen on that side. He thought of something quick to get them out of this place. "Besides, we can't make deals, we need someone older to do that. We're just kids."

"Mayhaps you come back tomorrow with a parent? An older sibling?" They both looked up, Diana was smiling in a way that let Ron know he wasn't as quiet as he thought, nor as sneaky about his intentions. "To return simply sit back down on those boulders, the portal will return you. To return back here, simply arrive the same way, but with the rising sun, or the setting sun on your side. There will always be someone here to receive guests. I will let the others know to expect visitors. We shall await your return, now off with you."

Ginny happily skipped over to the rocks, Ron though kept the woman in his sight until he made it over. Sitting down the world shifted once more, things had gone back to normal. Ron barely had a moment to breath a sigh of relief before his sister pulled him up babbling once more.

"Come on Ron! We have to tell mum and dad about meeting a real fairy! Wait until Luna hears about this!"

At least he wasn't bored any more, although he was quite worried.

OoO

Bill was bemused to be up so early, especially since he was here with the Lovegoods, and his youngest siblings. They were making their way up to the hill Ginny was talking about. It was a couple of days now since they returned from their little walk, and it seemed like nothing happened, he was after all keeping an eye on them at the time.

Still, Ginny was talking about meeting a real fairy, no not those ones used for christmas trees but a real one! Molly, tired from dealing with the twins and Percy decided to have Bill and the Lovegoods deal with the situation. So here they were, the children yawning away, Xeno was using his wand poking around the boulders murmuring to himself.

"Tell me again the name of this fae."

"Her name is Diana the Fair. She had red hair, green skin, and gold eyes." Ron explained once more, standing a bit away from the boulders. "She said she was a daughter of Diana the Huntress. She had a bow and two long knives with her."

"Fascinating. This location is indeed ideal though for a hidden Fae Portal." This was news to Bill, and everyone else.

"What do you mean Mr. Lovegood? We've been up here many times, and nothing seemed to happen those times."

"Well, it has to do with a sect of the Fae known as the Sidhe, they're domain has always been in the hills, such as this very one. They are a peaceful folk, some say they founded the Seelie and Unseelie courts of the Fae. Better known as the Summer and Winter Courts. There is a catch to these particular portals, they must be opened with the coming sun, or the fallen sun, dawn or dusk. You two are fortunate to remember their name, for it is not given freely."

This stuck out to Bill, and he couldn't help himself. "Why?"

"Luna, tell me what the name was again."

"Diana the Fair, that's her name."

"Thank you dear, to me, I hear 'The Fair Lady'. Children believe moreso than adults, and are free to learn the names of the Fae, if given freely. Adults however, are excluded for life unless told in person. A high honor since Names have Power. You haven't told them your whole names have you two?"

Bill looked horrified as Ginny guiltily nodded, Ron was scared as well. With a hum, Xeno went back to prodding the boulders.

"Well then, so long as you didn't make any deals you should be fine... Right?"

"No? I don't think so." Ron was thinking back hard.

"She wanted Garden Gnomes." Ginny answered right away.

Bill was more and more alarmed at the developing situation, "Hold up, what would happen if they did make this deal?"

"Oh nothing too outrageous, simply life servitude as a pet for the Fae. Failing that, then servants to be called upon when needed with the clause to become permanent servants in death. Depending on which court you're dealing with." The man looked up, seeing Bill's face quickly clarified. "Oh by the sounds of things nothing was done, they simply met with a being and that was all. They promised to return soon, and they have. Being a Fae Pet isn't all that bad, children are precious. Servitude isn't all that bad either, simply doing tasks required within the confines of the contract. None have been struck, yet. Thankfully you have an expert on hand."

This did not much to calm Bill down.

"Now would be a good time settle down, the time is nearly upon us. So long as you are touching the stones you shall be fine."

It was too late to go and get Molly, or even Arthur at this point. A little resigned Bill sat between Ron and Ginny holding both in a hug. Just as the first ray of the sun came about the horizon the world shifted and blurred.

"Welcome back, and you have brought guests." Bill observed the woman, Diana the Fair, the kid's description did no credit to her.

"Greetings Fair Lady, I am Mr. Lovegood, this is my wife and our daughter. We are neighbors of the Weasleys and will aid them as best we can. I am under the banner of the Winter Court. May we seek audience with you and yours?"

"What is one of the Winter's Court doing here? It is the time of the Summer!" Diana changed her stance to a more confrontational one.

"We are simply visitors and in this case, advisors. Our little one here is yet unaffiliated, my deal was made through my parents before me. I shall let my own choose for herself when the time comes. If you may recall the Lovegoods have since been partners of the Fae for the past four Ages, for both of the courts. I also bring a gift for you." With that Xeno opened his bag, bringing out a jar.

"Is that Honey?" Diana was watching in great interest now.

"An offering from myself to you for safe passage. Darling if you would?"

"Yes father." With that Luna took off a necklace she was wearing, it had a butterbeer cap strung along it as well as some other things. "A gift from me to you as well! I made it myself! It's supposed to keep Nargles away."

Diana cooed at the necklace, accepting both gifts, "This is acceptable, you may walk these lands only for today unless we come up with an agreement."

Bill was caught a little flat footed, frantically thinking of what he could offer.

"Worry not, we have much to discuss. If you will follow me." With that Diana turned and led them back, turning right however to a door in the hill. "We have dwelled here for the past age now, and have seen the comings and goings of your family. They are quite interesting you know Heir of House Weasley. Oh yes, we keep track of everyone within our boundary, which isn't that far."

The meeting would last a while and much was discussed. Bill, being the Heir of the family was acceptable to make the agreement binding. Ron, Ginny, and himself would learn much alongside Luna. Luna was a bit more free to come and go until she made her choice in the future, but the Weasleys would remain under the banner of the Summer Court. Along with the trade of creatures, they would also be learning how to be servants of the Fae until their death.

This would also include other such lessons, weapon handling, fae culture, magics, and what ever else would be required of them. Thankfully with Mr. Lovegood there they weren't completely rinsed with unreasonable responsibilities, demands, or frivolous requests. They would also be bound into silence, to never speak about the fae. Also how to tell if someone else was affiliated with the courts. Much to learn, however since they were relatively young they had some time to learn majority of it.

Molly upon learning this had much to say to the three, Arthur had little to add as well. They forbade the other siblings from joining in, not that it would stop the twins for long. The Summer Court was glad to have them eventually.

No one really noticed that the pet rat had run off one day after a major news paper article.

OooOooO
Ministry of Magic

"What do you mean Sirius Orion Black is unavailable?" someone shouted down.

"Exactly what I have said. The man has been in near constant contact with dementors for the last five years. Also, there has been an incident. We had lost a few Aurors-"

"So he was guilty!" "Black could not be trusted!" "He tried to escape! I say we have him kissed and tossed through the veil!"

"SILENCE!" Many people flinched from the concussion hex.

"Thank you Madam Bones. As I was saying, there has been an incident. The dementors had swarmed the suspect."

"Why was this not reported? Why are we just hearing about this now?"

"We have done a quiet investigation. We have also rounded anyone and everyone that has anything to do with Azkaban in the last week. Aurors, bring in the suspect!" Amelia explained before calling in the was many shocked gasps and cries of outrage. Umbridge was kicking and screaming silently between her escorts.

"You are all here to face charges for the attempted murder of a high risk suspect in custody, Heir to an Ancient and Noble House. As well as the murders of various Aurors on duty. Taking the law into your own hands, conspiring to undermine the authorities, breaking multiple laws." The list went on, all the while Umbridge was still struggling against the bindings. "We have verified many Logs, found many hidden reports, as well as..."

There was nothing much to be say among those in the Wizengamot, they could only watch and listen to the sudden trial. To think that they would go this far to put a stop to a case that has yet to be. Surely something was up now. There were a couple of clerks that followed that, being bribed with items, promised prestige, and what not.

"Healer, what is the condition of the original suspect?"

"Recovering from extreme dementor overexposure. The only reason they are still alive is because of his quick thinking of shoving the other aurors back into the cell and closing the door, and holding it closed until reinforcements could arrive. It was a near thing as well. The others arrived and went to get more people when they noticed the kissed victims, only noticing after the first group hadn't returned."

"In our investigation it has been determined that someone had changed the guard shift so that there was hardly anyone capable of the patronous charm available during that particular shift. As you can see here." The case was essentially open and shut after that. Delores Umbridge would serve twenty-five years in azkaban for each kissed person on that day. It was a scandal unlike any other yet. It would pale in the coming days to the next one.

OoO

"That's that. You heard it here first ladies and gentlemen! Sirius Black was declared innocent of the betrayal of the Potters, as well as the murder of Peter Pettigrew! Of whom his Order of Merlin has been rescinded and has been replaced by a search and detain order! People are to remain cautious and avoid approaching the suspect and are to report them to the nearest member of law enforcement!"

It was the biggest trial of the decade so far. Many were in shock that things were not as they appeared. Meanwhile in a secured area of the ministry.

"Where is my Godson." Sirius was still a sight, even if partially recovered and properly robed.

"We do not know Mr. Black. We are still searching for him, the only ones that know for sure is Albus Dumbledore. Besides that, you still need time to recover from your ordeal. You are not in the right state to be caring for a child currently."

"I did my waiting!"

"You are not helping your case Sirius. Sit down before you fall down." Amelia waited for him to do so before continuing. "You will need physical therapy, a potions regime, possibly mind healing as well would not be amiss. This will take time to do, time that we need to build a case against Dumbledore. We have reasonable cause to remove him from Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot, however not enough to force him to reveal the location of the Mr. Potter. We must also resign ourselves to the fact that we might not succeed before the boy heads off to Hogwarts."

"Fine then, what do you suggest then Madam Bones." Sirius was fuming, but he was willing to wait. It may be a few years, but people knew to be wary when a Black calms down when recently agitated.

"As I said earlier, you will need to recover first. You will also need to check in with your Head of House to verify some things."

"I was cast out if you recall, and besides, I would be the Head of House now right?"

"No, you weren't, Walburga is not in charge, your head of house would be. Orion was Heir before his death, then it went to you. Since you haven't been convicted it had not yet gone to one of your cousins. Heal up first, then get in touch with Head of Black. We may yet need his support in the coming months. Arcturus is hanging in there, but barely. It would be best for you to visit him sometime soon. It was on his behest that we look into your case."

That little tidbit aroused his curiosity, "Arcturus still lives? Walburga always claimed that Pollux was the head of house."

Amelia gave Sirius a disbelieving look. "You mean to tell me that your family hasn't taught you anything? This is need to know information, Arcturus still lives, but barely. It is a well kept secret within the families. Not even You-Know-Who knew about him."

"Well I'm sorry I didn't know, I was kicked out of my family during Hogwarts if you recall. Besides, dear old mum was grooming Regulus at that time to be the Head of House." Sirius huffed at it all.

"You might also want to thank your cousin Narcissa, she's the one that got the ball rolling as well." Amelia had to hide a small smirk at the gobsmacked look Sirius was sporting. "Now off with you Mr. Black."

OoO

Dumbledore cursed the stupidity of it all. He was soon to be kicked out of the wizengamot, not to mention finding out that Cadmus had indeed gotten bastard children out and about. The Headmaster was currently sneaking about looking through the various records of that line. Names and lines jumped back and forth, majority of them meeting untimely deaths. Still, one line was all that truly remained, and it was in some grey-zone contention currently. Tom Marvolo Riddle was indeed the last true heir of Cadmus, but by right of conquest Harry was Heir assumptive. Since Tom was still existent though, things got muddled rather quickly. The fool could still breed a new heir should he return.

Magics were weird like that, especially concerning this particular situation.

There would be no one brave enough to take on the Great Albus Dumbledore, to claim the Wand of Destiny. Those that were available, were no longer good options in his opinion. Riddle due to the recent knowledge of being descended from Cadmus, and Potter being descended from Ignotus.

There was also another reason he was in the records department, to lock down and stall the Potter investigations. Minor confounding wards, misdirection spells, and other such tactics on the various things.

Upon walking through the other records he also remembered his off-record fencer and informant, Fletcher. The man was becoming more and more of a liability. The man was once brilliant at the job, able to get intel and spread intel at a phenomenal rate. Since the 'war' ended however, things have gone downhill for the man. With that in mind, he changed the records, adding a bit more information under an anonymous report. It would put the man up for a few extra years.

Normally he wouldn't do this unless it was absolutely necessary, but with things going the way they were, it felt good to exercise a bit more of his devious side. Curious to see how much more effective the man would become after some hardening in Azkaban, it was where he got some of his better workers in the past. Sort of smelting the dredges from a person to purify them, assuming they survived the crucible that was Azkaban. The man had potential, if only they weren't lacking the drive or devotion to a cause.

With that done, Dumbledore left, satisfied with what he had found, confounding the workers after a light obliviation, it would fill in the blanks left behind.

OooOooO
Privet Drive

Petunia knew something was going on with her nephew, since she could remember though he was always lonely and couldn't find anything to explain it. He was unfailingly kind, and always helping when he could. It had all started soon after his fifth birthday, he had been visiting the library and reading often, when he wasn't doing other stuff like assisting the neighbors. On one hand she was proud of the young boy, on the other though, he seemed to take a turn for a more surly, serious type. She had no idea if it were a wizard thing, or a personal one. Perhaps she explained too much too early to him. These worries have been on her mind for a while now.

Vernon was also another problem she felt wasn't going to change any time soon. The way he spoils her Dudley than Harry, if he ever does without her says so. She's had to put her foot down multiple times. Her Dudley might have been morbidly obese if she hadn't. As it was, Dudley was a bit on the husky side, she did encourage more outside activities and made sure that both boys were getting enough activity. Harry was healthy, if slightly on the shorter side.

There was still some time left to teach Harry about his ability. He seemed to learn what she had given well enough. Perhaps there was time enough that he could even surpass her sister, if such a thing were possible. There wasn't much other magical influence in his life, for some reason there were no magicals to pop up in the neighborhood that she could tell. It seemed to be a one in a million type of thing.

It was another thing that seemed to frustrate her to no end, there was no one coming to check up on the boy either. Not that Dumbledore fellow, nor anyone else. Petunia was sure there should have been something, even a note about any immunizations he should be having. She kept him up to date with his boosters and what not, but was afraid that he might catch something that was magical. It's one of the reasons she made sure to not bring him anywhere near where magicals might be, always ushering them away once she noticed a couple of the magicals out and about.

For the most part she kept him away from the London area, excepting for school trips which were rare enough. Petunia knew though that the time will come when such a thing could not be avoided.

There were just too many unknowns and no one to contact about it. Petunia had tried so many times to send a letter to them, even leaving one out at night in hopes it would magically deliver itself, to no such luck. She even went as far enough to send one by post, it simply returned the next day. For now, she waited and did what she could and hoped for the best.

It was going to be the boy's birthday coming again soon, she just hoped that things would work out well enough in the coming years, she spent much time going through fictional stories, trying to piece together her own teachings that she could pass on to he boy, to train him to better control himself. If she were honest with herself though, the boy had somewhat excellent control so far compared to Lily.

With that last thought, Petunia went to sleep, she felt that the next coming years will be quite busy.

12 Grimmauld Place

The flames came to life, turning a bright green before depositing it's rider. Stepping through, as casual and regally as a Black could, was Arcturus Black. Sniffing at the deplorable state of the kitchen he called out, "Elf, attend me at once!"

With an unacceptable loud crack the house elf appeared, muttering all the while "who dares call upon Kreacher, who dares disturb the house of black. Oh the mistress won't like this one bit."

With nostrils flaring he held up the family signet, commanding the elf, "Elf! You will be silent when in my presence, as Head of House Black I demand respect."

The elf looked up with wide eyes, horrified.

"You will answer my questions, and you will not say much else. What happened to Orion Black, to Walburga Black. Do not try to lie to me, or it will be clothes."

"Orion had perished by the poison Mistress gave him. Walburga had gone mad. She perished soon after by not eating or drinking."

With another disdainful sniff Arcturus glanced around the mess. "Why is this place in such a state. I'm half of mind to give you clothes! Nevermind. If this place isn't cleaned up, you will be released from duties. You will clear the way to Master Study. If it isn't up to my liking..."

With a meep of fear Kreacher snapped his fingers, disappearing and clearing the dust from the room. There could be heard much movement going on beyond the kitchen door.

With a sigh Arcturus sat down in the chair. This was not an uncommon sight, he had just got through visiting the other family members of the Black Family, with the exception of Narcissa the other places were just as bad as the family manor. Others either passed on without children, or wanted nothing to do with the Blacks. House elves gone mad from a lack of duty and direction, neglected houses, vermin moving in. "What had happened in the last thirty years to put everyone in such a state..."

With a sigh he decided it would be better to get to the study, this was the main family manor, it had a more comprehensive library than the Head Estate building. There was also the fact he still had to get ahold of other Blacks.

He had yet to get ahold of Andromeda, Dorea's grandson was also hidden away by Dumbledore. "The nerve of that person..."

Kreacher was still cleaning the manor if the bangs and distant sounds were any indication. Slowly the Black Manor would be clean of the grime that had taken hold, perhaps too the Family with it.

For now Arcturus was prepping it for the last heirs of Black. If it stays in the family, or gets absorbed was yet to be determined.

"Filth in my house!"

With a grimace Arcturus lightly punched the frame with the ring, forever freezing the frame midscream. "The arrogance of her, to replace the tapestry with this... thing. Kreacher, you will move this... thing elsewhere when you get done cleaning, you will also move the family tapestry back into the main foyer."

Upon leaving later on, he would become incensed that there were burn marks all round the family tree. It was rare for him to say any rude things, but with the last few decades, he felt that this was an exception. There was much else to say, only Kreacher would ever know what that was though.

No one could pinpoint the exact moment, but the Olde Magicks were making a comeback once more.

End Chapter

Right, a bit more research heavy. The Black family was a nightmare to figure out, even with 'trees' available, it also got muddled up between Orion and Walburga. I've also decided to take a few random plots suggested by some readers. Ideas and suggestions welcome, even if they may not be used in the near future. I was going to add in a Hermione backstory but felt it would have been too long, before the rewrite. Now, her story will simply unfold later on. No biggie.
