Lexi glanced at her phone to see if Ace texted her back. She read: "20 unread messages from Mom." 10 missed calls from Dad and 4 missed calls from Mom. " But nothing from Ace. Lexi put her phone down, throwing her head into her hands. She just couldn't read them. She knew they wanted to know how it went, but she couldn't tell them. Not now anyway. All she wanted to do was forget the whole thing ever happened.

"This is dumb. It was just a stupid cheerleading competition. I shouldn't be upset. Besides, we won the regional. I should be happy. " Lexi thought to herself. "I've got to get this off my mind." She thought as she went into her bag and grabbed one of Ace's manga to read.

"My demon girlfriend is a secret agent." Lexi read the title out loud to herself. "Yeah, I don't think so," Lexi said, about to put it back.

"Hey, you found it!"

Lexi looked up to see Ace getting off his bike. She couldn't believe she didn't hear him coming.

"Yes, you forgot a bunch of_ What in Acme happened to you?" Lexi asked, seeing Ace covered in bruises and scrapes.

"Nothing really. I just... Ah well... My first day didn't go so hot. " Ace said, rubbing his neck.

"I would say so. What were you doubling for? A punching bag? " Lexi said, getting up. Her phone was still sitting on the bench.

"There was some miscommunication with my boss, but it's nothing that can't be fixed."

"What are you going to tell Mom and Dad? "That the pizza-making machine went rogue and beat the living daylights out of you." Lexi joked as she threw her bag onto the hoverbike.

"I might. So how'd the cheering go? You won, right? Ace said as he opened Lexi's bag to retrieve his comic.

Yeah, we did. Now get out of there. " Lexi said, bopping him on the head.

"Ouch! " Ace said, rubbing his head.

"Sorry." Lexi laughed, taking her bag back.

How'd the individual competition go? "

Lexi was caught off guard, even though she knew he'd ask her. She was quiet for a moment.

"How about we don't talk about it, okay?" Lexi said, grabbing out several thick Mangas from her bag.

"Oh, it was that bad? I'm sorry. How about neither one of us talk about our day? Ace asked his twin.

"Sounds good to me," Lexi said, handing Ace his comics.

"Thanks," Ace said, holding one up to get a good look at it. "Hey, Lexi, isn't that phone yours that's ringing?" Ace asked, pointing at the phone on the bench.

Lexi looked to see her phone was about to vibrate off the bench. She quickly grabbed it before it hit the cement.

"Who is it?"

"Mom," Lexi answered hesitantly. "It's marked urgent," Lexi said, with worry.

"Better answer it." Ace said, knowing very well that she didn't want to. He then realized he had forgotten his own phone at work. He hoped he hadn't left it in that nasty porta-potty.

Lexi took a deep breath and answered the call. "Hello."

"Thank goodness, Blake, I got a hold of her! Lexi's mother called to her father, who must have been standing nearby. Lexi, is Ace with you? Please tell me he is with you. "

Yeah, he just got here. We were...

"Oh good, he's with her. " Lexi's mom cut her off. Listen, you two need to get to a shelter right now! "You hear me?" Her mother said in a serious tone.

"Ace, we need to get to a shelter now!" Lexi told Ace hopping onto his bike.

"I know where one is, but why?" Ace asked as he started the bike.

"Mom says there is a meteorite coming," Lexi answered, grabbing hold of the machine.

"Lexi, I want you to stay on the line till I know you've gotten there safe." Their mother ordered now on speakerphone.

"You got it, Mom." Ace said, pulling out onto the road.

BANG! The siblings were knocked right off the bike by a massive shock wave. The two scrambled to their feet.

"Help me flip it back over!" Ace said, pushing on his capsized bike while the sky turned dark orange above them.

"Leave it. We can run there. Lexi said, grabbing Ace by the hand and dragging him away with her.

SWOOSH THUD! Ace's heart stopped as he saw a ball of light smash right into his sister's forehead. Ace caught her before she could hit the ground.

"Mom, what do I do? Lexi's been hit by something. I think she's knocked out! " Ace yelled into the phone.

"W_s th at?"_ hear... "A garbled voice came from it. Ace stuffed the phone into his pocket and picked up Lexi, knowing he'd have to handle this on his own now. He tried to run without bumping Lexi around too much.

SWOOSH! Ace saw a bright yellow light heading right for him. But before he could react, THUD! It hit him directly in the eyes. Ace fought it, but he collapsed, dropping Lexi in the process.

He laid there on his back, unable to get up. He looked up at the sky, but all he saw was blackness. Ace struggled to lift his hand to his eyes to check if his eyes were just closed. They were opened. So either the sun was blacked out by the meteorite or he had gone blind. But he knew what it really was. He had lost his vision.

End of part 1

Notes

I put a lot of work into this re-imaging of WB's Loonatics unleashed. Lots of research went into world-building. I'm not a sports person myself 'so if things don't make sense in the sports bits that's why. I did try. I put a lot of time into researching that.
Sorry if this part was a bit boring. Part 2 is going to be way more exciting I promise.
