HAGRID'S FAREWELL
Note: This is more than anything a small oneshot in honor of Robbie Coltrane. I felt the need to read and/or write something to give him the sendoff he deserves, which doesn't mean I'm killing Hagrid. Hagrid is alive, but I wanted to pay him a small tribute with the character that marked our childhood.
She was sitting on her sofa in front of the television table where the open letter she had just read was.
Hermione was with her legs folded on top of the sofa, as she wrapped her arms around them. Tears ran down her cheeks that were lost under her chin, because she was still assimilating that the day of the funeral of her semi-giant friend had arrived, who had died days ago due to a rare disease he had contracted.
According to what Professor McGonagall had reported, Hagrid was doing research in the mountains, on certain magical creatures that he intended to teach his students at Hogwarts, and he contracted a disease from some creature that inhabited those sides, and according to the he managed to investigate, was deadly.
Only Professor McGonagall had been aware of this, because the ranger had asked for discretion not to disturb or worry anyone, but when Hagrid finally died, the professor had to spread the terrible news and plan the funeral, which it would take place behind Hagrid's hut.
Even though she was so locked up in her thoughts and her sadness, she heard the doorbell of her apartment ring, causing her to get up and run to the door. She knew it was Harry, so when she opened the door, they both threw their arms around each other to comfort each other, as they were both crying over Hagrid's death.
A couple of minutes later the bell rang and Ron and Luna arrived, who were also received by the brunette and the jet with a big hug of comfort.
Minutes later Hermione had to excuse herself and went up to her room to finish getting ready for the funeral.
When the brunette came back into the room, that was when Harry decided he would show them the letter he had written to Hagrid.
Hermione was the one who took the letter and read it, feeling her tears begin to run down her cheeks.
"Oh, Harry... I'm sure Hagrid would love it," assured the brunette, as she put the letter on her lap and cupped Harry's face with her hands, to give him a small kiss on the lips.
Getting away from him, Hermione gave him a smile with tears streaming down her cheeks as she stroked Harry's cheek.
Ron and Luna agreed with Hermione's words, plus they had both shed their tears upon hearing Harry's words towards their half-giant friend.
The emotional moment ended a few minutes later, due to the fact that they had to leave for platform 9, since they would leave on the Hogwarts express, due to the fact that many students and alumni who appreciated the semi-giant would attend the funeral.
When they arrived at Hogsmeade, it was Madame Rosmerta this time who directed them to the carriages, the ones that had always taken them to the castle.
Arriving at the Hogwarts grounds, they all made their way to the back of Hagrid's hut, where everything was already set up and ready for burial.
Fang, Hagrid's big and faithful dog, was lying next to what would be the ranger's giant tomb.
Harry and Hermione met Professor McGonagall on their way, who was greeting everyone as she finished arranging the last details of the funeral.
The headmistress walked over to Harry and Hermione with a small watery smile and hugged them both.
"At least Hagrid left knowing that you two are together," the professor declared, trying to contain her tears.
Harry and Hermione gave their former teacher a faint smile of thanks, and then tightened their grip on their hands, before being hurried by the same teacher to their places.
They continued on their way, meeting up again with Ron, Luna, who were now together with Neville, Seamus, Dean, Susan, the Patil sisters and other former Hogwarts classmates.
It was time for someone to say a few words and after Professor McGonagall, it was Harry who decided to read the letter he had written.
Getting up from his seat, he asked Hermione to stay by his side and take his free hand, as he needed to feel her with him when it became more difficult for him to read.
Dear friend:
You took care of me since I was a newborn, and in your arms, you took me to my aunt and uncle's house, where with tears in your eyes you had to leave me, only to come back for me when I was eleven years old.
You brought me my first cake and celebrated my first "happy birthday" with me, the same day you showed me the wizarding world for the first time.
You took me to Gringotts, to the Leaky Cauldron, and you took me to Platform 9 where I would catch the train to go to Hogwarts.
You were one of the most important people in my life, part of my adoptive family and those who knew you, knew of your enormous heart, tenderness, kindness, and compassion.
You took care of dragons, magical creatures, and spiders. In your heart there was never room for cruelty.
After the final battle, you carried me in your arms once more, believing that I was dead. You were always there.
Hagrid, I will always remember you, as the warmest giant ranger in the wizarding world. Never forget you.
IN MEMORY OF ROBBIE COLTRANE, who played Hagrid in the Harry Potter saga.
Rest in peace.
Lumus Maxima. ️
