HAGRID'S FAREWELL

Note: This is more than anything a small oneshot in honor of Robbie Coltrane. I felt the need to read and/or write something to give him the sendoff he deserves, which doesn't mean I'm killing Hagrid. Hagrid is alive, but I wanted to pay him a small tribute with the character that marked our childhood.

Harry and Hermione were already ready in the living room of their house, waiting for their children, who were finishing getting ready.

They were on their way to the funeral of their half-giant friend, who had passed away a couple of days ago, having contracted some deadly disease from a magical creature that inhabited the mountains where Hagrid had been doing research for his classes at Hogwarts. This was what McGonagall had reported to everyone.

Only Professor McGonagall had been aware of this, because the ranger had asked for discretion not to disturb or worry anyone, but when Hagrid finally died, the professor had to spread the terrible news and plan the funeral, which it would take place behind Hagrid's hut.

A couple of minutes later the bell rang and Ron and Luna arrived with their twin sons, Lorcan and Lisander, who were received by the brunette and the jet with a big hug of comfort.

Minutes later Hermione had to make a call to her children, since a few more minutes and they would be late.

"James, Lilly and Rose Potter! Hurry up or the train will leave us!" Hermione exclaimed from under the stairs.

When their children finally came down, Harry and Hermione took their hands and they all walked out of the house together and onto platform 9.

When they arrived at Hogsmeade, it was Madame Rosmerta this time who directed them to the carriages, the ones that had always taken them to the castle.

Arriving at the Hogwarts grounds, they all made their way to the back of Hagrid's hut, where everything was already set up and ready for burial.

Fang, Hagrid's big and faithful dog, was lying next to what would be the ranger's giant tomb.

Harry, Hermione, and their children met Professor McGonagall on their way, who was greeting everyone as she finished arranging the last details of the funeral.

The headmistress walked over to Harry and Hermione with a small watery smile, and hugged them both, before giving the three younger Potters a warm smile with tears still streaming down their cheeks.

"At least Hagrid left knowing that you were married and had the honor of teaching your children," declared the teacher, trying to contain her tears.

Harry and Hermione gave their former teacher a faint smile of thanks, turned their gaze back to their three children and tightened their grip on their hands, only to be hustled by the same teacher to their places.

They continued on their way, reuniting again with Ron, Luna and their children, who were now together with Neville, Seamus, Dean, Susan, the Patil sisters and other former Hogwarts classmates, also with their children.

It was time for someone to say a few words and after Professor McGonagall, it was Harry who decided to read the letter he had written.

Getting up from his seat, he asked Hermione to stay by his side and take his free hand, as he needed to feel her with him when it became more difficult for him to read.

Dear friend:

You took care of me since I was a newborn, and in your arms, you took me to my aunt and uncle's house, where with tears in your eyes you had to leave me, only to come back for me when I was eleven years old.

You brought me my first cake and celebrated my first "happy birthday" with me, the same day you showed me the wizarding world for the first time.

You took me to Gringotts, to the Leaky Cauldron, and you took me to Platform 9, where I would catch the train to go to Hogwarts.

You were one of the most important people in my life, part of my adoptive family and those who knew you, knew of your enormous heart, tenderness, kindness, and compassion.

You took care of dragons, magical creatures, and spiders. In your heart there was never room for cruelty.

After the final battle, you carried me in your arms once more, believing that I was dead. You were always there.

Hagrid, I will always remember you, as the warmest giant ranger in the wizarding world. Never forget you.

IN MEMORY OF ROBBIE COLTRANE, who played Hagrid in the Harry Potter saga.

Rest in peace.

Lumus maxima. ️
