haunted house AU
"Remind me again why I decided to do this?" Regulus asked, looking with barely disguised disgust at his costume. Why did people think he would look good as the devil?
"According to you, it was because you watched me in line to apply, thought I was cute, and decided to land a job here to see if I would talk with you," Hermione replied, adjusting her vampire costume. "You're a little creepy, but you grow on me."
"Gee, thanks," Regulus drawled, making Hermione giggle. "You make me feel so cherished now."
Not that she was wrong; Regulus stared at her like a creep during the first week they were working together, until he finally gathered the courage to ask her out. Hermione didn't answer him at first, and he thought it was the end, but she smiled at him and it was like he could breathe again.
Hermione came near him, "I cherished you very much, Reggie, but you have to admit that you were a little creepy at the beginning. Especially to someone who applied to work at a haunted house."
She was laughing at him, but Regulus wasn't mad at her; it was endearing to see Hermione laughing, and he vowed to always try to make her laugh like that. Hugging her to his body, Regulus kissed her curls, before sighing contently.
"You're trying to get out of our shift? Are you scared to go back?" Hermione asked with a smug smile, and Regulus tried not to flinch. "Oh my gosh, this is so cute!"
"It isn't cute!" Regulus replied, trying not to pout. "It's just…it's so dark, and with all that smoke, I can't see much in front of me, and I don't know if someone is coming at me or not."
Hermione was openly laughing at him now and Regulus was pouting. It wasn't fair; he wasn't a scared cat, but the idea of not knowing if someone was coming into his station made his heart beat faster and he hated the unknown.
"You're so adorable," Hermione was gushing at him, which was so weird when she was wearing fangs.
"I'm not cute!" Regulus drawled, trying to look intimidating. "Why would you call me something so terrible like that?"
Hermione was trying to stop a laugh, and Regulus didn't know how to react, "I'm sorry. I don't know why I called you that."
Glaring at Hermione, Regulus tried to maintain his facade, but he knew he would never be mad at her. Groaning, he gave her a peck on the lips, knowing he was never going to get mad at her.
"Besides," Hermione said, like she had something very interesting to say to him, "I heard Lily saying she was planning to bring Sirius here today."
Now that was something interesting. Sirius hated haunted houses, and the fact that Regulus was working on one, meant he could scare Sirius. Smiling wide, Regulus turned to Hermione.
"Alrighty, let's go get some haunting done!" Regulus said, before grabbing Hermione's hand and walking towards the house.
If he was still a little uneasy about working on a haunted house, it didn't matter when he could do everything in his power to scare his older brother. It was going to be a good day at work.
