Iron wood August 25th 2000
The proctor stares at me as I sit down, I'm here for my GED. The history of Earth Bet is slightly different then mine, even the geology is slightly different. Or I'm in an alternate universe, actually come to think of it my very presence pretty much insures that this is an alternate universe, well cannon's fucked to hell anyways so all I can do is my best.
"Start."
June's waiting outside, she's really been supportive but I find it odd that the Protectorate still hasn't found her an appartment of some sort in Seattle, the price of living cant be that high. I mean even with all of the biotech I created for her, it's still not all that comfortable. The test wasn't that hard, and I had been studying it for months. When I finished I got the paper and placed it on the proctor's desk, he nodded nervously and I left.
"So, how did it go big guy?"
"I feel I did well on your human GED."
"That's great!"
She hugged my leg and we waited on the stepps of the government building.
"So now what?"
I shrugged.
"I continue healing injured and sick people for your human government, fighting my old family in the Endbringer fights and whatever else needs to be done."
"Oh..."
She sighed.
"It must be rough, you know fighting them."
I shrugged.
"It has to be done, your species is worth saving, worth dying for."
She blinked, leaning against me.
"Come on big guy don't talk like that."
"I won't, as you humans say sugarcoat it, this is my path and I accept the concequences."
"So."
She frowned.
"What was it like, um..."
"Being a slave, having your free will taken away, being shoved into the cold darkness and discarded until I was needed? Being treated as lower then trash for existing? There is little love lost between myself and my former family."
"So you didn't just leave because of Mr. Rogers?"
"I left for a lot of reasons, Fred Rogers encountered me during a crisis of faith, a time where I could have become anything... he gave me a great gift and I don't want to let him down."
"What did he give you?"
I stared out at the city my screen shinging in the darkness.
"Hope."
She blinked.
"Hope that I could change, become more then I am then, what I was, become better to cast off what I had been taught and embrace a new vision, your human vision."
"And what were you taught?"
She sounded curious.
"That the powerful can do whatever they please to the weaker, that the weak deserved death at best, a world of blood and claw."
"And if that's the truth?"
She grimaced.
"Then I would rather close my eyes and dream forever."
June leaned against me.
"Good...I want to sleep with, I mean dream with you too."
We continued to wait until the testing was over with, a man popped outside and gave me the good news, I now was the proud owner of a GED. June hugged me and we walked away from the government center.
"This is great, we should celebrate."
She smiled as we walked into town, and then frowned at the closed signs.
"It's ok."
"No, it isn't."
I patted her on the shoulder.
"It is what it is, give them time."
"Why aren't you angry?"
I sighed.
"They're scared, I know what it's like to be scared, If I want to walk with you humans then I must earn my place."
She seethed.
"It isn't fair."
"Unfair things happen to many people, I don't understand why I would be any different."
"Well I'm not in love with those other people..."
She grimaced and I stumbled and fell flat on my face.
