Chapter:1 the beginning?

"Hm?" A young man groaned as he sat up, his face was filled with confusion as he looked around. Trees surrounded him and seemed to stretch on forever.

After sitting there for a good while he finally decided to get up and frowned when he saw his dusty clothes. He dusted them off to the best of his ability and looked around hoping to find a road or a path.

Seeing there were non, he decided to pick a path and walk onward, with the hopes of finding people or a way out. With every step, he took he could hear the grass beneath the crunch. Looking around he realized how massive the trees were.

They easily could dwarf houses and castle walls, as he looked up as far as he couldn't tell if the ceiling of the leaves that covered the sky were the very top of the trees or not.

He looked at the ground and noted how massive some of the exposed roots are, hell he saw one root that could make a bear look small. He began to wander where he was. But that thought was replaced.

How was he? He stopped in His tracks trying to recall any memories he have, but all of them came out blank. He can't remember his own name… does he even have a name?

His mini Existential crisis halted as he morphed into disgust as he smelled something horrible. It smelt like something had died for days on end.

Looking around trying to find the source of the foul smell he noticed one of the massive trees had a lot of blood on its biggest root.

He stood frozen in shock at the end amount of blood that was spilled, it looked like a small group of people or one big animal were ripped to pieces to cause that much blood spilled. His stomach churned wondering what happened there.

Taking a deep breath and then immediately gagging on the horrible smell that assaulted his nose again he facepalmed cursing at his stupidity.

Gathering every bit of courage he could muster he began walking toward the big root. Hoping to find something useful for his trip. Every step he took made the smell worse. As if it was being constantly stabbed over and over again.

Reaching the root he put his hand on a clean spot a mentally prepared himself for what he was going to see.

He peaked around the corner ready to see the source of the smell. The odor made his eyes tear up as looked at the center of the smell and blood.

He rubbed his eyes at what he was as looking at.

Is that… a wolf? Looking at the body he realized whatever did this thing to the poor animal had mutilated the corpse almost beyond recognition, its face barely resembled a wolf because something had eaten half the muzzle off and taken a big bite where the eyes would have been. Exposing its skull and the brain.

Its body was torn to pieces as it looked like a group of piranhas had grown legs and eaten all flesh from both its forelegs leaving only stumps with jagged bones coming out of them.

Its back legs seemed pretty intact but it was broken to the point it could be mistaken for something that walks on two legs.

He stood there horrified by the sight and the smell, looking around the corpse he saw a bloodied… shovel? Did someone kill the wolf and started to eat the corpse?

'What happened here?' he wondered as avoided the blood stains on the ground and went toward the shovel. Looking at the shovel he realized how worn out it was. Its wooden shaft had some cracks in it, and its metal head was dented. Looking at where the handle would be he realized it was snapped off. Looking around he couldn't see it anywhere.

Getting wary of being near a corpse he grapes the shov-

Jumping back in fright at the sudden appearance of the word. He throws the shovel away from him and stumbles back immediately slipping on the blood on the ground he fell with a thud.

The fall didn't hurt him, but the smell may a well done all the damage. His nose felt like it was burning and being stabbed at the same time.

Looking at what softened his fall he saw that he landed on the wolf's corpse. Only now discovering how large the wolf was. If he lay next to the wolf it would be pretty easy to tell that the wolf was bigger than him. It could use him like a che-

*GROWL*

His back began to shake and he immediately got off the wolf, trying to get away from the noise. Starring in horror at the corpse that started to twitch and shake. It growled and slammed its body against the base of the tree.

He went after the shovel immediately and grabbed the worn out shov-

Sasha's lucky cha-

He swiped away the words with a scared frenzy trying to look at the wolf.

He stopped moving to see the massive thing standing on two legs. Only now did he realize that thing's legs weren't twisted whatsoever, it looked like it could walk on two legs for all of its life.

*Growl*

But it wasn't facing him, it faced the tree and growled. Its ears twitched around trying to pick on the smallest noise it could pick up.

Gathering his wits and getting a hold of his fear. Thoughts start running through his head as the wolf turned around oblivious to the man before it. An idea formed in him and he started to look at the wolf's legs and clenched the shovel in his hand.

It resembled a wolf's legs somewhat. If the wolf in question could stand on two legs. Looking at its knee he silently took a stance and prepared for the world to get in striking range.

*STEP*

The wolf tried to sniff him out with its missing snout. Even though he was sure it was only smelling its own blood and rot. But it still made him extremely nervous.

*STEP*

His palms became sweaty as he gripped the shovel handle with a death grip. With every step the wolf took made his nerve shake. Its foul smell hurt his nose. He prepared to thrust the spear on its knee.

*STE- CRACK!*

The wolf let a painful yowl as if fell with the shovel cracking its left knee. He didn't even take a second thought as he started running away.

He ran until he couldn't smell the smell of rot.

He ran until he couldn't hear the howls of anger.

He ran until he almost fel-.

"GAHHHHH." he skidded to a halt before he fell into a river. Looking around he noticed how the large trees weren't covering the sky anymore. Looking behind him he saw the massive trees just a couple of paces away. The dark inside of the massive wood contrasted heavily with the sunny outside. Looking at the top of the trees it truly Dawned on him how massive the trees were.

Forget what he said about how they could easily make houses and castle walls look small. Those trees could make some mountains look small. He swore the top of the trees are covered by the cloud. Those trees were just… impossibly big.

Seeing the river he looked around hoping anything would catch his eyes. But no matter he would either see the massive trees that covered the sky or the other side of the river which was pretty empty.

Glancing at the river he saw it go downstream from his left, and saw how it curved and went Into the forest. So without a second thought, he started going in the direction of the upstream that led away from the forest that housed the wolf. Only to stop when he felt a pain in his left hand.

The man winced before he look at his hand. Only to realize he still had the shovel in a death grip. Letting it go and hearing it clang against the ground he saw his left hand.

There wasn't blood thankfully. There were just three of four small splinters stuck in his palm. Bringing it to his mouth he took them out as carefully as he could with his mouth. Wincing as he took them out one by one.

After taking them all out, he looked at the shovel and grabb—

Blinking in confusion he touched the floating thing that made no sense to him and jumped back when his hand went through it.

Looking at the floating thing he eyed it with wary before walking up the stream hoping to find something.

Taking a place back and the thing he blinked when it was no longer there. Looking at the shovel with confusion he jumped back in fright when the floating thing appears right before his eyes. Swiping it away with anger (and fear) it disappeared again.

He frowned In annoyance and considered throwing away his only weapon. But sighed and started to walk.

'Hope I find something out there' walking with the sun at noon he walked under the warm and soothing sun. And his mind began to wonder.

'Do I have a name?'
