A/N: I was going to wait and do this as a Christmas gift. However, I figured I wouldn't remember it by then. As requested, this is the "Ashlyn lives" universe of 'Requiem For a Wild Cat.' I don't see this becoming a multi-chapter, but it's an interesting idea for a one-shot.
"Jefferson, come quick! There's another passenger over here! She isn't breathing!"
In the middle of the street, there was a singular body. One that was ejected from one of the cars. At first, they guessed it was the driver of car number two. However, the damage on the second car showed no signs of someone being thrown out. It looked like the other driver made a run for it.
"Get some of the paramedics over here," Jefferson ordered. "There might be a chance for saving her."
Paramedics swarmed around the young woman. Her face was swollen, making identifying through appearance hard. The paramedics ended pulling out the defibrillators. It took a solid three minutes to finally revive the Jane Doe. Exhausted and relieved, the paramedics loaded her into the ambulance. Jane Doe's I.D. slipped out of her pocket.
"Jane Doe has a name," Jefferson said. He picked up the I.D. "Ashlyn Caswell."
Ashlyn needed an extensive eighteen hour surgery. During the surgery, she slipped into a coma. Her list of injuries was so long that no one expected her to pull through. Yet, she did.
Once Big Red was discharged, he spent most days in her hospital room. Her room was decorated with flowers and gifts from classmates. There were also several items from her room, such as her favorite stuffed animal, and her favorite blanket. They were brought by her parents and Big Red when he was forced to go home.
A week passed since the crash. It was now prom night. After much convincing, the other wild cats went to the dance. Big Red choose not to go. He went to prom last year. He'd rather spend the night in the hospital with Ashlyn. His parents also didn't want him working at Salt Lake Slices until the concussion cleared up.
Big Red sat beside the hospital bed. A large portion of her was covered in bandages. One eye was still swollen shut. He was reading her favorite book to her. He was about to turn the page when he heard a faint groan.
"Biggie?" Ashlyn asked.
"Right here, cupcake," Big Red whispered. He couldn't help but cry because she was going to be okay. They would be okay.
