Standing outside of the 21st district getting ready to go inside, Katie was nervous, and rightfully so. Anybody would be nervous to start their new job, but when you were a detective, and your new job was in the intelligence unit, it made sense that you would be so nervous that you were second guessing yourself, but she had to go inside because it was either now or never. The one thing she wasn't nervous about though, was surprising her best friend, Hailey Upton, who she hadn't seen in years. Sure, they had talked on the phone, facetimed, and sent texts to one another, but that was different, she hadn't seen Hailey in person for years. That one bit of excitement to see her best friend for the first time in forever, was enough to give Katie the courage to pull herself together and walk up the steps and into the district for the first time.

As Katie walked into the district she couldn't help but look around to asses the room, a tactic she had learned from the Marines, and take in the details. The first thing she noticed was the desk sergeant. Katie noticed that she was drilling two patrolmen for getting their squad car trashed, and she had a no-nonsense attitude and seemed pretty badass, Katie was almost scared to talk to her. As the desk sergeant finished drilling the patrolmen, Katie began to approach her to ask for instructions and noticed her name tag read "Platt" in big, bold letters, Katie thought back to the night she was helping Hailey at her parent's restaurant and it got robbed, Katie then recognized the woman as the one who saved her and Hailey that night, and at that moment, Katie was no longer scared to talk to the sergeant, but almost excited.

"The last time I saw you I was just some scared kid who didn't have a clue what was going on, and now I get to work with you every day, this is some sort of Godsend," Katie announced as she approached the desk sergeant.

"I'll be damned, Katie Torres! I haven't seen you since you left for the Marines, how's it going kiddo?" Platt asked the new detective. That was the difference between Katie and Hailey, while Hailey had thrown out the sergeant's card the second she walked out of the district that day, Katie held on to it and kept in touch with the sergeant so she could tell someone about her accomplishments and she got older.

"It's going great actually. I got out of the Marines, I have a new apartment, they let me keep my service K9 so he's just a pet now, and me and Noah have been great lately, he's been a little stressed out right now, but it's still amazing." The girl lied to the desk sergeant. The truth was, Noah had been way more than a little stressed out, he had been having trouble at work which was causing him to drink more and be more hostile towards Katie, it was never physical, but even then the insults still weren't very pleasant either.

"That's awesome!" Trudy said, "Well I'm gonna let you go before Voight comes down thinking I've kidnapped you. Here, take these papers and get them back to me, filled out at the end of your shift. Your handprint has already been put into the system so you can buzz yourself up, but I'll go ahead and walk you up so I can show you to Voight's office and he can introduce you to everyone." The sergeant finished as she handed the new detective a stack of papers and walked out from behind her desk and walked upstairs with Katie.

Once Katie and Platt get upstairs, they see everybody cracking down on paperwork at their desks and Hank doing his normal work in his office. Katie then waited at the top of the stairs while Trudy went to get Voight and a moment later Voight and Platt came out of his office and walked toward Katie.

"Katie, it's nice to see you again, let me introduce you to everyone," Voight said as he approached the young new detective. "Everybody, this is Katie Torres, she's the new detective I was telling you about. She'll be working with us in intelligence so she's part of the family now, I expect you all to treat her like it."

At the mention of her best friend's name, Hailey immediately stopped what she was doing and turned to see if what she heard was true, "No way! I haven't seen you in years and now all of a sudden you work with me? That's amazing."

"Yeah, I missed you too Hailey. It's amazing what years apart can do to two people." Katie responded. After Katie had responded, Hailey then introduced her to all of her fellow detectives.

"The tall one is Jay Halstead, everyone loves him, the blonde one is Adam Ruzek, he can be a little stupid sometimes, the one that looks intimidating is Kevin Atwater, he's not actually intimidating he's a giant teddy bear once you get to know him, and finally, the other girl, is Kim Burgess, she's pretty awesome and she has a daughter named Makayla."

Once Hailey was done introducing her to everybody and she had shaken their hands and said her hellos, Katie sat down at her new desk and got on with all of her paperwork. She had finally found where she wanted to be, she was happy, and she had her dream job with her best friend, her life couldn't get any better.
