Chapter 2
Deep in the cave system was a room closed off from the outer world. A mattress was placed on the floor across from the door with two candles burning on a table and a basket sitting by the door.
Sam moaned as his head pounded with a headache that beat like a drum. He opened his eyes and looked around the room with dismay. He had trouble remembering what happened to him or where he was at.
The room was small with an open shaft in the roof. There was a mattress, a table with two candles and a basket by the door in the room. Sam rose and went to the door but it was locked. He started banging on the door calling out but he received no answer. He leaned down and lifted the basket onto the table to find water, granola bars, chips and a flashlight inside the bucket. Wherever he was, they were not starving him. He left the basket on the table but took a water and the flashlight back to the bed.
"Think Sam. What happened last night? You need to think."
Sam focused on what he remembered last when it all came rushing back to him. He lowered his head into his hands in disbelief. He had been captured by the vampires but why was he alone and where were the frog brothers? Where was his brother?
Sam frowned. Michael had been acting weird ever since he met that girl, Star. Michael started snapping at Sam and their mom. He started acting like a real jerk but he wouldn't abandon his brother. Michael would save him. He just knew it.
Sam looked around one more time before laying back down on the mattress. He was stuck here for who knows how long until the vampires did whatever they had planned for him.
His mind went to Maya.
Sam had fallen for a vampire just like his brother.
FLASHBACK
Sam laughed as Maya held up a peace sign earing.
"What do you thing, Sam? We could get this for you. Afterall, if your brother was supposed to be named Moonbeam before he was born than you must have a hippy name that was considered." Maya said with a smile.
Sam's ears went red. "Michal told you that?"
"I never reveal my sources." Maya said in a stuffy tone with her nose in the air. Sam laughed and reached out pulled her to him.
"Come on. You got to tell me." He begged.
Maya smiled "only if you tell me your hippy name."
Sam bit his lip before whispering "Oberon"
Maya stopped and blinked "Oberon as in fairy king?"
Sam's cheeks went pink when Maya burst into giggles. He quickly stuck his hands into his pockets and started walking away.
Maya looped her arm through his arm and placed her head against his arm. "Don't be upset Sam. I think you would have made a great Oberon. He was a king after all. How about some fairy floss and a ride on the Farris Wheel?"
Sam smile. "Ok. I like the Farris Wheel. It almost feels like your flying when you see the sights up there."
Maya laughed. "Yeah. It does feel like you are flying at one point."
Maya smiled politely but Sam felt like she was getting more enjoyment from his comment than what it truly deserved.
END FLASHBACK
Sam couldn't help but wonder how much of their time together real and how much was imaginary. Slowly he fell asleep as he pondered what his future would hold.
Sam slept as the sun slowly set and the sky started getting dark. All over Santa Carla night people slowly ventured out of whatever hole they hid in during the day to a world that was far more different than when the light was out.
Deep in a cave on the very edge of Santa Carla the sound of laughter could be heard as the predators of the night arose from their slumber.
David released the pole he hung from and dropped to the ground with the others following behind him. He turned to face the others and raised an eyebrow as he observed the others who stood before him.
"Shall we go say hello to our new little brother?"
All the boys smirked as they thought about what they had planned for their newest member of their family. By the time they were done with him, Sam would not know what hit him.
