Chapter 1

Maya smiled as she felt the wind blow through her hair. She loved her new life with her brothers. The chance at a human life could not compare to the freedom of being a vampire.

As time went on Maya had forgotten the humans from when she was human. David had explained it when Maya started questioning what was going on.

FLASHBACK

"David, why can't I remember stuff? I remember some like living in the tire building but not the names or faces of the people I lived with. I remember running from my father's abuse but, besides the picture I have, I can't remember his name or where we lived or what we did together before the abuse started." Maya asked.

David took a deep inhale of his cigarette. He remembered asking this very question when he was turned. He answered this question when each of the boys asked too. It was the one thing that unnerved David. Not knowing his past.

David blew the cigarette smoke out and tossed it into the bonfire.

"This is what Max told me. I don't know if it's true or not but it's all we have to go on. When you are half, the blood works through your mind to convince you to finish the turn. It will make certain things be more intense like the deep burning of the throat, the extra sensitive hearing and the pain in the muscles resulting in cramps. Understand so far?"

Maya nodded her head.

David rubbed the bridge of his nose before continuing. This part was always the hardest part to grasp.

"When you finally turn, the blood focuses on the mind. It goes through the memories and cuts away the parts that would cause the new vampire's loyalty to be tested. A vampire's whole purpose is to survive with a clan. Every vampire who is not part of a clan feels the need for companionship. Someone who will be beside them in a fight and will keep the isolation of immortality away. A vampire who still remembers aspects of their human life would struggle to fit in with their new life if they had a human family still alive for the vampire to miss and if they remembered the humanity rules on killing. We are not humans and humanity does not work for vampires when our prey is anything that has blood flowing through them."

Maya frowned. "So, by getting rid of the memories, the blood is helping us to survive?"

David nodded. "Yes. There are times where a vampire will know a person was a family member but the emotional ties to them are severed. It's all about survival and the blood ensures that the vampire will survive their immortal life."

Maya nodded her head. It wasn't her fault and David confirmed it. Maya pulled the picture out of her pocket and stared at the man, woman, and child on the picture. David reached over and have her shoulder a squeeze in support or comfort for what Maya planned to do next. The girl leaned forward and dropped the picture into the fire. As it burned, David pulled her close.

"You will never be alone. You will never die. You will never be alone." David whispered.

The girl watched until the picture burned away. This was her life and, if she was going to survive all memories of her human life needed to go. She would survive.

FLASHBACK END

Maya closed her eyes and leaned back just going with the motion of the motorcycle. Maya had accepted the fact that she would never remember her past life. She could make sure her future was better than her past.

Marko jerked his motorcycle making Maya laugh and open her eyes. She glanced at him to see Marko glancing back at her with a smile.

'Having fun' He asked.

Maya smiled. 'You know it.'

Marko remembered having the same guilty feeling from his turn. It took several years to get over the feeling. He would do his best to help the girl out. The Lost Boys and Girls pulled up to the ledge. However, before anyone could get off the bike David spoke to the Boys and Maya.

'Max has called for a meeting at his house. Says to be there in an hour'

David was furious. They could feel the anger rolling off him in waves.

Max was a pain they had to suffer with for far too long. Whatever he wanted from them was going to cause trouble. They could all feel it.

Maya sighed. 'Here we go again'

David helped Star off as Dwayne helped Laddie.

"Star, stay in the cave until we get back." He ordered.

Star frowned but nodded her head. She took Laddie's hand and led him down the stairs.

David and the other boys started their bikes, and they were off to Max's home. As they pulled up into the front of the house as Max drove into the carport. The Lost Boys smirked as they pulled up to where they accidently ran over Max's flower Garden.

Max got out and frowned. What else could he expect from his troublesome children?

Max sighed before gesturing for them to enter the home. He led the group into his living room and took a seat.

Maya glanced around the room. The room was an ugly brown color covered in weird art pieces.

There was a couch and two chairs that surrounded a wooden table. This was not first time she had ever entered his home and she hated it. It was too clean and perfect.

Max and David sat in the chairs forcing Maya to sit in Dwayne's Lap. She really hoped that this meeting would hurry up.

Max glanced at David before turning to Maya. "How are you feeling, Maya?"

Everyone tensed. Max had not been happy about Maya turning. He had been expecting another male not a female. Max felt that too many females could jeopardize the pack. It was only David's quick thinking that Max did not kill the girl.

Maya glanced at David before turning back to Max. "I'm well sir. Marko is working with me on controlling my urges and I have not had any slip ups. I am making sure to feed well especially when we go to the boardwalk."

Maya could feel Max's probing of her mind to see if she is telling the truth. Finally, he nodded and turned toward David. As he turned away, the other lost boys could breathe freely. Max was becoming unpredictable.

"I have work for you boys and girl to do. The woman, Lucy, that showed up in the store tonight is my mate. I want to turn her however I fear that she might not agree to…well let us just say a different lifestyle than what she is currently living."

David rolled his eyes "What person is going to jump in and say yes to this lifestyle besides a crazy person? So, what do you want us to do? Kidnapper her?"

Max frowned "I want you to bring her two sons into the group. She has an older son, Michael, who is 18 and a younger son, Sam, who is 16. If they are turned already than Lucy will have no choice but to agree with the change. It's time you boys had a positive female influence and for Maya and Laddie to have a mother."

David sat up straighter.

"You are kidding me, right?! You want us."

He gestured to the others.

"to bring your mate's sons into our pack. What if they refuse the change? Have you thought about this clearly? You are putting our whole life at risk for what? How sure are you that this woman is your mate?"

Max stood up and his face morphed. Behind that silly human disguise was the true monster that the Lost Boys know and hated. The monster that held their life in the balance.

"That is enough out of you. You will do as you're told and get this done or I will end you, do you understand me? You and the other boys will pull the older son in and Maya will get the younger brother in. Do not fail me David or I may change my mind on allowing Maya to continue her undead life."

Everyone tensed as Maya whimpered. Dwayne pulled the girl closer to him in comfort.

David snarled "Crystal. Let's go boys and girl."

The others quickly jumped up and followed David out of Max's Home.

The boys got on the back of their bikes as Maya climbed on the back of Dwayne's bike. David glared angrily at Max's house before turning toward Maya.

"We will do everything possible to make this happen. NOTHING will happen to you, Maya. Max wants the Emerson family as part of his little play at being human than so be it." David said.

The other boys nodded and Maya smiled. David would protect his family. The other boys and Maya were his and no one messed with what was his. The Emerson boys better be ready. They were now the sole focus of the lost boys.
