Chapter 8
Sapphires' Boutique
Maya frowned as she looked at herself in the mirror.
She was dress shopping …with David and Dwayne. DAVID was taking her dress shopping.
David NEVER took her dress shopping or any shopping for that matter. He usually just gave her money to go buy the clothes she needed and left her to it or he sent Paul or Marko with her if he wanted something specific picked out.
Maya tensed as she felt someone place their hand on her shoulder. She glanced up to see David standing behind her.
David smiled at Maya "You look great Maya. Just need the finishing touches. Close your eyes."
Maya sighed before closing her eyes.
David smirked. She was almost perfect.
David nodded at Dwayne who joined him at Maya's side. In a few minutes David and Dwayne had decked Maya out in everything to fit with her outfit.
The boys stepped back. She was done.
"Open your eyes little sister." David stated.
Maya opened her eyes and gasped. No one could call David or Dwayne unfashionable. The finishing touches were perfect.
Dwayne walked forward and pulled his sister's hair behind her ears. He placed a red rose in her hair before hugged his little sister from behind. "You look good little sister."
Maya smiled at Dwayne before turning to David. "What's going on David? Why are we dress shopping? You never dress shop with me."
David shook his head. His sister was no idiot. He walked up to her and placed his hands on her cheeks. He stared right into Maya's eyes.
"Have I ever done anything to make you distrust me?" David asked.
Maya shook her head.
David tilted his head sideways. "Have I ever done anything to put you in danger?" Again, Maya shook her head.
David smiled bigger. "Then trust me that am doing everything in my power to ensure that our family is safe. I have to make sure that Max stays away from us especially you. If Max gets angry enough he could decide to destroy us all. I will not let that fool destroy my family."
Maya nodded her head. She turned back to the mirror to look at her new outfit. It was perfect.
Maya couldn't help but wonder…would Sam like her in this?
David watched his sister observe herself in the mirror. Everything was going as planned.

The Cave
Sam and the others were waiting for the others return. Laddie had curled up on the floor playing with his toy soldiers while Paul and Marko had the brilliant idea of teaching Sam how to play poker.
"You cheated!" Sam said pointing at Paul.
Paul smirked. "No, I didn't. I'm a perfect angel."
Marko snorted as Sam rolled his eyes and spoke. "Yeah right. You are as innocent of not cheating as David is likely to hug one of the surf Nazis."
Sam's hand shot out and he grabbed Paul's arm.
"HEY" Paul yelled.
Sam pulled a card out of Paul's jacket sleeve. "See. He was cheating."
Paul smirked and placed his cards down.
Marko started laughing and said, "You should have not done that Sammy boy."
Sam frowned and looked at him confused.
Paul suddenly launched forward and pushed Sam onto the floor. "I'll teach you to prove that I'm cheating."
The two boys started wrestling on the floor. Marko laughed and cheered Sam on. It was obvious to everyone that Paul was not using all his strength to give Sam a chance.
Paul wrapped his arm around Sam's head and started giving him a noogie. Sam was struggling to pull his head from under Paul's arm when he heard a voice in his head.
'Squeeze the ribs' a voice said.
Sam didn't know where the voice came but he reached up and did what the voice said. Paul squealed like a pig and released Sam jumping away.
Sam and Marko burst out laughing.
Paul through an evil look at Marko. 'You are so going to pay for that'
Marko just smirked 'Just making an even playing field.'
Sam launched at Paul and knocked the vampire down. "Payback"
Sam started squeezing Paul's sides making him laugh. Paul laughed and reached forward capturing Sam's wrists. "Wrong move kid. I'm stronger than you are."
Paul flipped them over and tickled Sam until he begged for mercy.
"Alright. Don't kill him." Marko called.
Paul stood up and sat by Marko with a smug look at Sam who was wheezing as he slowly stopped laughing.
Laddie walked over to Paul.
"I'm hungry?" He said.
Paul smirked. "We will eat soon."
Laddie nodded before going over and pushing Sam with his foot. Sam laughed and pushed Laddie's foot away from him. He stood up and sat down in his seat by the poker table. Laddie walked over and sat down. Just as the boys were about to start the poker game again Marko and Paul felt the others return. Their smiles only got bigger as Dwayne sent them images of Maya in her new clothes. This would be good to see.
David and Dwayne flew down the stairs toward the others. Laddie ran to Dwayne to tell him about their shopping trip while David motioned Sam to stand up.
Sam stood up and watched as David walked around him like a lion with prey. David smirked "Very nice. This is an improvement."
David wrapped an arm around Sam's shoulders "So, Sam…what do you think?"
Sam glanced up at David "What are you talking about?"
David smirked, turned Sam toward the stairs and pointed up at the entrance. Sam glanced up to see what David was staring at only to freeze.
Sam's mouth dropped open and his eyes widened. "Maya" he whispered.
Standing at the top of the stairs is Maya. She was beautiful. She wore a dress which was divided in color. The top was black and flowed down into a green skirt. On her legs was black fishnet stockings with ankle boots. Her hands were covered with fingerless gloves with hearts cut into the back of the gloves. She wore a black jacket with lace sleeves and the breast was covered with different images such as doves, diamonds, and flowers. Around her neck was a choker necklace with a rose in the center. Her hair was in ringlets and pinned to the side of her head with a flower in her hair. It was obvious she was wearing a little makeup as her lips were red like a rose and her eyes sparkled like diamonds.
David leaned over and whispered. "Breath Sam"
Sam gulped a gasp of air and moved toward the stairs. Sam thought she was the most absolute beautiful thing he had ever seen.
Laddie walked up to Sam. "She's so pretty."
Dazed, Sam shook his head. "She's beautiful, Laddie."
Maya slowly smiled at Sam running her hands down her dress. She could not help at blush at the way he was staring at her. She had never had anyone look at her like that, but Maya was sure she was probably staring at Sam in the same way.
He was dressed in a black shirt, a pair of dark blue jeans and black biker boots. The front of the shirt had a neon skull on it with swords crossed behind it. It must have been a joke Paul and Marko were playing as the words on it circling around the skull said, Party till the sun comes up. Sam wore a black necklace with a spike attached to it around his neck. Marko or Paul must have done something with his hair. It was styled in a punk rocker look. Maya thought he had never looked more handsome.
Maya slowly walked down the stairs into the cave toward Sam who had moved to the foot to watch her.
Sam ran a hand through his hair. "H...H…Hi."
Maya smiled "Hello Sam."
Neither teen realized that the others were watching them with smirks.
David was smiling like a cat who had gotten the canary. Everything was falling into place. His smile got bigger as the other boys started hooting and catcalling. Both teens' face went bright pink. Sam took Maya's hand and led her to the couch where the other lost boys started teasing the two.
David sat in his chair, leaned back and linked his hands in front of his face. Everything was going according to his plans. Max was right about family being the strongest weapon against your enemy. David was building his own family in the Lost Boys and one day he would take his family to better hunting grounds than a town time forgot.
