Fanfiction Exlusive Story
As Link began to grow older, his mind was somehow always focused on the Deku Princess. While he never found Navi in the Lost Woods, with the Skull Kid's help Link was able to go back and forth between both Hyrule and Termina whenever he wanted.
Of all the places in Termina that Link often visited, it was the Deku Palace in the swamp he spent the most time at. Of course, Link was always in his Deku form whenever he went there and he was almost always chatting with the Deku Princess whenever she managed to get away from her father. Which ironically happened a lot.
"You know mister Link, if you want to, you can just remain here with me and stay a Deku; you don't have keep going back and forth so much." The Deku Princess once said. "And believe it or not, but we Deku have some pull with the mayor from Clock Town. One word from either me or my father, and the guards will let you pass even as a Deku." She had added.
"I'll think about the former, if the later actually happens." Link said.
And true to her word, the guards were given a description of Link's Deku form, allowing the boy in his Deku form to not have to be in his human form to keep going to the swamp. That had happened three months ago to the date and over the course of these same three months, Link and the Deku Princess have had more and more talks; which got longer because the Princess was almost always able to be away from her father.
And today was yet another talk with the Deku Princess in question.
"It's nice to see you again, Link." The Deku Princess said. Link couldn't explain why, but she seemed much more beautiful today then normal.
"You know, I have to know how your able to get away from your father so much." Link said.
"Ever since the swamp returned to normal, father has actually not minded at all where I go so long as I don't end up going too far. Even though the swamp is back to normal, we still have problems with the dragonflies from time to time." The Princess said.
"That's interesting to know." Link said. "Maybe at some point, I can help you take care of it that problem." He added.
"Oh no, there's no need. Besides, even if they cause problems, the flowers need them so we have to only fight back when they get too far out of their neck of the woods which we have to remind them on occassion is NOT here." The Princess said.
"Woodfall Temple is in their territory last I checked." Link noted.
"Yeah. But most dekus don't go there these days. Then again, considering what had happened from the last time someone did just that..." The Princess said.
"Guess most Dekus have decided it's not worth getting captured by anything like you were." Link said.
"I am NEVER going into another bottle for as long as I live." The Princess said.
"Your STILL upset about that?" Link asked.
"Why would I not be?" The Princess asked.
"Fair point. It was all I could think of at the time." Link said.
"So, have you given thought about just staying at the palace full time? If Hyrule was going to get into trouble, it would've done so at this point, right?" The Princess asked.
"You have a point. Would your father even allow me to stay at the palace?" Link asked.
"Considering I told him everything about what had happened and that it was you who managed to rescue me from the monster that took control of the temple, I think my father would be more then willing to do so. Of course should he try and find a way to say no, I'll be giving him one heck of an earful. Again." The Princess said.
Link chuckled at that. "Oh yeah, I remember the last time he did something you didn't agree with." He said. "Fair enough, I suppose I'll accept your offer." The young hero concluded.
One Month Later...
Over the course of the last month, Link; still in Deku form for all that time; had been growing ever so closer to the Deku Princess during this time. In fact, Link now more or less had a room in the palace now. And the sight of Link and the princess being together was the farthest thing from a rare sight amongst the palace. While there were a few Dekus who saw as far as they knew an outsider Deku getting close with their Princess and thus got upset about it; when they were told that said outsider rescued the Princess from the monster in Woodfall Temple, they kept their arguments to themselves.
And as time progressed throughout the month of time, the hecklers against Link's closeness to the princess were lessening day by day. In fact, some of the guards were more so jealous then anything else.
"Can you believe that the Princess is being close with her savior?" One guard asked another once.
"Can you blame her? Besides, that now former outsider has put us guards to shame by saving the Princess." The other guard said.
"Then we must make up for it by continuing to do our duty. Still, I can't help it if I'm jealous of this outsider." The first guard said.
"Well I may have a bit of jealousy too, but more so because I wish I could've been the Princess's savior instead but I was on day patrol when the outsider went to rescue our princess." The second guard said.
"...That's a fair point..." The first guard said.
There were conversations like that happening.
"Isn't this just nice to be sitting here on the water's edge without worry about some poison?" The Princess asked. "I thought I'd never get to experince this again." She added.
"Not gonna lie, this is...nice." Link said.
"YOUR MAJESTY! LINK! YOU'VE GOT TO COME QUICK!" A Guard Deku said, running up to the pair.
"Huh? What's wrong?" The Princess asked.
"It's your father..." The guard said.
"WHAT?! TAKE US TO HIM, NOW!" The Princess demanded.
The pair would reach the king's room where the king was currently laying in bed; looking very weak.
"Daughter?" The king asked.
"I'm here daddy. What's happening with you?" The princess asked.
"It...was that darn poison...it's gotten to me." The king said. "Thankfully you weren't effected. The guards...are they gone?" The king asked.
"Yeah. Only me, the princess, and you are in here." Link said.
"Good...Link, if something should ever happen to me, please make sure my daughter is a happy woman." The king said. "After all, I trust you with her the most." He added.
"Don't say that daddy, you'll get better." The Princess said.
"Heh...wouldn't that be something. But...just in case..." The king said.
The Princess nodded in understanding. "...Oh father." The Princess said.
A bit later, the princess and Link were in the Princess's room of the castle.
"So...what's going to happen now?" Link asked.
"Guess we'll have to be ready in case something does happen to father. But, I'm sure he'll get better." The Princess said.
"Heh...your lucky you know. I lost my parents a long time ago." Link said.
"Oh...oh that's so sad." The Princess said.
"I've gotten over it at this point though." Link said.
"How did you even lose your parents?" The Princess inquired.
"I never did find out what happened with my dad, but I was told my mother died trying to save me from a great war." Link said.
"Well she must have succeded because here you are." The Princess said, giving Link a hug.
"Heh...yeah she succeded alright, but she died shortly after she managed to get me to a safe place. It was Kokiri Forest in Hyrule." Link said.
"That can't be right. Your a hylian. I've heard non-kokiris lose themselves in the forest and become part of it." The Princess said.
"Well I guess I must have protection against that due to being needed to stop Ganondorf and all that." Link said. "Until it was time for me to need to do that, I was taken care of by the Great Deku Tree." He said.
"The Great Deku Tree?! YOU GOT TO MEET THE GREAT DEKU TREE?!" The Princess was almost in awe. "That...that is so amazing. Most Deku go their whole lives without ever getting to meet him." She added.
"Well right now, thanks to Ganondorf's actions, the Great Deku Tree is dead, but a new one is already starting to sprout and grow." Link acknowledged.
"I'm not sure how I feel about that. One one hand, it's nice to know a new Great Deku Tree will eventually come into existance, but it's not so nice that Ganondorf caused the original one's demise." The Princess said.
"Part of me wishes I could go take you to see the remains of the old tree and the spoutling of the new tree, but I know you have way too many duties to just leave on a whim. Especially with your father the way he is." Link said.
"Wait, you can actually show me the Great Deku Tree? THAT WOULD BE SO AMAZING! No Deku here would mind if I went and saw the Great Deku Tree. After all, to see the Great Deku Tree would be any Deku's greatest dream." The Princess said. "Oh and don't worry about needing to find your way through the lost woods. We Deku have a secret way to and from here to the Kokiri Forest." She added.
"Wow, that was some shortcut." Link said. They were actually in the tunnel leading to the Great Deku Tree from the hero's memory. "Wait this is..." Link said.
"Hmm? Do you recongize this tunnel? I'll be honest, this was my first time using that shortcut." The Princess said.
"This is the tunnel to the Deku Tree. This way." Link said, pulling the princess the direction opposite of the village. It became clear why soon enough.
"Oh...my..." The Princess said. She witnessed the big gray tree in front of her and the sproutling as well. "Is that big gray tree what remains of the old Great Deku Tree?" The Princess asked.
Link nodded. "And the sprout is the current growth of the new Great Deku Tree." Link said.
The Princess went up to the sprout. "It's...it's such an honor to meet you both." She said.
"Oh my, aren't you the Deku Princess from Termina? The honor should really be all mine." The sprout said.
"Oh please, your far too humble little sprout. One day, you'll grow into being just as big as the old Deku Tree. I just know you will. I may never get to see that day, but perhaps, my decendents will." The Princess said. "It...would be so special." She added.
"You give me too much honor, your highness. It's honestly a pleasure to meet one of deku royalty." The sprout said.
"Maybe so, but my people consider meeting the Deku Tree a dream come true." The Princess said.
"Well I'm glad Link was able to fulfilly your wishes. He'll treat you right, I'm sure of it." The Sprout said.
Link and the Princess returned to the palace just before it was too late to be out and about. "I'll never forget this day Link." The Princess said. "You allowed me to meet the Great Deku Tree. Most of the other Dekus will be jealous of this." She added. "More so of how you were able to give me such a once-in-a-lifetime joy then anything else." The Princess concluded.
"It was my plea-" Link was interupted by a smooch from the Princess.
"Consider that a thank you gift." The Princess said.
THE END...FOR NOW
