Gavii asks: For Whumptober day 16 "No One's Coming" & Virgil. So many people asked me to rescue Virgil. So...
Characters: Scott, Kayo, John, Colonel Casey
Warnings: Implied MCD, Beating, Blood
Kayo made to enter the building she'd literally just exited from, but a shout from John had her pausing.
'Kayo – run!'
She could feel the earth move, yet Kayo hesitated. Virgil was in there! She took a step forward…
The blast knocked her flying. flinging her back .
Shakily she got to her feet, bent over with hands on her knees as she looked with horror at the crater where moments ago her brother had been with her.
'Jo-John?'
His silence worried her.
'John!'
'Scott's almost there, Kay.'
Virgil's pet name for her stabbed her to her heart. But she knew it wasn't going to be as bad as facing Scott when he landed. She could hear One now.
Kayo stood beside Shadow and Two as One came into land. Scott jumped out of his seat before it finished lowering and strode over to her. She held herself rigid, eyes fixed firmly on the ground.
Which meant that she was startled when Scott pulled her into a tight hug and held her tight until she began shaking. Scott held her tight and she returned the hold as she realised she wasn't the only one shaking.
She had no idea how long they stood there, but eventually they broke apart, wiping eyes. Scott didn't release her completely, holding her hand tightly. His voice was hollow and raw.
'John. Report.'
'The GDF will be with you in five minutes. Grandma wants you home as soon as possible.'
'FAB, John. Do – do Gordon and Alan know?'
'Yes, Scott.'
'Please make sure you're home when we get there.'
'FAB Scott. Five out.'
They stood shoulder to shoulder as the first GDF flyer landed and Colonel Casey emerged.
The next three hours were gruelling, Kayo was interviewed again and again and again. There had been three people left outside the building that were now in custody, but they were not saying anything.
Eventually they were allowed to go home. EOS remote-piloted Two home while One and Shadow flew escort either side of Virgil's ship. They flew in silence and were greeted in silence.
Alan, lip wobbling, threw himself at Scott, and Gordon wasn't too far behind. John pulled Kayo in too and Grandma completed the tight hug.
They only broke apart at John's whispered words.
…
'Good afternoon. Three hours ago International Rescue was called out to what turned out to be a false rescue. The intent of the callout appears to have been to kidnap one of the Thunderbird pilots.
'That attempt was foiled by another pilot, but in the process of escaping the two pilots got separated.
'Only one pilot made it out before the building imploded. As of now International Rescue has stood down and the GDF will be taking over rescues.
'As you can understand, this is a particularly difficult time for International Rescue and the Tracy family, and they ask that you respect their privacy at this time.
'No questions, please.'
How Colonel Casey made it through that conference without even a wobble of her knees she would never know. But she ignored the clamour of the press shouting questions and hurried to her personal flyer. She needed to be with her Godsons.
…
The blow to his stomach left him gasping but his captors didn't let him drop further than his knees.
A chuckle and then a fist was in his hair, yanking his head back. He looked through his one good eye and laughed.
He was repaid with another fist to his not-so-injured eye and was hauled backwards onto the chair he'd been sitting on before these men had decided he needed to be taught a lesson.
Spitting out a mouthful of blood, he glared at the man in front of him.
'My brothers will come for me. My sister will destroy you.'
'Oh, haven't you heard the news?'
The man was passed a phone and he scrolled through it, looking for something specific.
'Ah, here we go!'
Smirking, he turned the phone around and played the announcement by the GDF.
'Sorry to destroy your hopes, but no one's coming. No one is coming for you, ever.'
Virgil stared at the man as he laughed and laughed and laughed.
