There was a reason Jane hadn't wanted Maura to join the baseball team, and it wasn't just her batting stats.

Jane was still haunted by the memory of Maura's baseball suit - form-fitting to say the least. But somehow the Geek Squad had joined them, and it was kind of ok. At least they had proper outfits that weren't skin tight, but they all looked goofy holding their bats. Jane held off the start time so the homicide team could give a little coaching, and as always, she honed in on Maura, moving her hips and shoulders as she practiced her batting stance. It was a little awkward because Jane was left handed and Maura was right handed, but Jane could swing either way. She could swing a baseball bat either way. Just think about baseball, Jane told herself as she reached around Maura to adjust her grip, Maura's soft vanilla scent wafting up from under her uniform.

Maura pressed back against Jane, behind her, hands atop Maura's as she guided her through a swing. Jane looked up nervously, worried about how it looked, but everyone else was giving each other pointers, throwing slow balls to the nerds, not paying them any attention at all. Except Robyn and Camille, who were grinning, whispering to each other, looking on indulgently. Jane shook her head and stepped back, ignoring Maura's pout.

At The Dirty Robber, after they'd congratulated the happy couple, after a few beers, Maura sighed, looking at Robyn and Camille.

"Do you think we'll ever be that happy someday?" Maura asked wistfully, draping her arm over the back of Jane's chair.

"With each other?" Jane asked, flustered, knowing Maura would back down again, the way she always did after making a statement or gesture that might be interpreted as romantic or sexual interest.

Maura instead turned to Jane, used her spare hand to take one of Jane's and rested her head against Jane's cheek. Despite herself, Jane's leaned into Maura, wrapped her fingers around Maura's. It wasn't an answer, and it was.

"I hope so," Jane said quietly.
