'Should we even be attempting this?' asked Boimler. 'I'd have thought there were people back at Starfleet Medical and the Corp of Engineers working on it!'
'There are' replied Rutherford 'We just thought it would be a good idea to develop a fresh perspective''
'You really think Starfleet will listen to you, after what happened with Badgey?'
'Oh, please' simpered Tendi 'You're not nervous about being a test subject, are you?.'
'Can you blame me?' snapped Boimler, glaring at Rutherford as he spoke. 'The last time I tested one of your modifications, I ended up out of phase and whistling!'
'I've apologised for that!' replied Rutherford. 'Besides, it wore off eventually, didn't it?'
'That's not the point!'
'Okay,' said Tendi. 'Perhaps this wasn't such a good idea,'
'Well, I suppose I could give it a try, seeing as you both worked so hard on it,' replied Boimler.
'Thanks, pal!' said Rutherford happily. 'Computer, load LPH test program setting.'
Instantly, the yellow on black grid of the holodeck was replaced with a small room with pale cream walls, white ceiling, and grey carpeted floor. The long wall in front of the trio contained a double window, complete with silver Venetian blinds. Next to the short wall on their left was a black padded mattress on a table, which was raised at one end, with a pair of leather look armchairs next to it. The other short wall had a number of grey cabinets with large drawer fronts, and a number of potted plants on the top. Between these and the long wall was a wooden desk supporting a primitive monitor, and what Boimler recognised as an ancient audio communication device known as a telephone. Two basic stackable chairs were placed in front of the desk, with a leather look office chair behind it. Looking over his shoulder, Boimler noticed the long wall on that side had a single white swing door set in the middle.
'What's this?' Boimler asked in confusion.
'It's a basic Psychiatrist's office, circa early 21st century.' said Rutherford. 'We thought it would be better than using the holodeck grid. Okay, we're going to wait outside. When you're ready, just ask the computer to activate the LPH, and then take it from there.'
'Alright,' sighed Boimler 'I think I should tell you, I'm still not convinced about this!'
'Don't worry.' said Tendi cheerfully. 'We'll be right outside if you need us.'
