CHAPTER 3 - THE ONE CURSED WITH LUCK
"Alright, class dismissed," the homeroom teacher informed the students right after introductions concluded. It was always like this the first day of school at Hope's Peak Academy, since orientation takes half the day.
As everyone started leaving, Kamiko quickly got up from her seat and stood in Mondo's way. He was so taken aback that he took a step backwards. Kamiko took a step forward slowly to close the gap between them a little. Mondo felt his ears getting warm when he locked eyes with Kamiko.
"W-What the fuck do you want? Back off!" Mondo tried to act tough.
Kamiko giggled in the most feminine and elegant way he'd ever seen, "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. I'm just having this unexplained attraction towards you. I'd like to get to know you better."
Mondo's face was fully red at that point. He then turned away and fast-walked out of the classroom after mumbling "fuckin' weirdo."
Kamiko now had a genuine smile on her face that she wasn't able to get rid of right away. She was more and more interested in Mondo. She looked around the classroom and saw that all of the other students were either gone or getting to know each other. Naegi was talking to Maizono, Asahina was talking with Ogami, Kuwata was trying to talk to Enoshima...
Nobody really caught Kamiko's eye and she could not bring herself to socialize with anyone else right now. She decided to start heading home. As she got out of her classroom, a familiar face was waiting there for her.
"Kamiko-san!" The white-haired boy exclaimed as soon as he saw Kamiko come out of the class.
"Oh, Nagito-senpai, were you looking for me?" Kamiko asked, knowing full-well that he was indeed looking for her.
"Yes, well... I wanted to apologize for earlier. I tend to not really realize the things I say," Nagito sheepishly scratches the back of his hair. "Um... Would you like to walk home together?"
Even though Nagito made her feel slightly uncomfortable, she was somewhat interested in who he was. Nagito was definitely one of the strangest people she'd ever met. She gave him her friendly smile, "sure, I'll tell my driver to not pick me up today."
"Oh wow, we have something in common! Although my fortune all came from luck," Nagito started his strange fanboy behaviour, "I'm sure for you, it's your impressive lineage-"
Kamiko brought her finger up to Nagito's lips, shutting his rambling up. The feeling of her finger on his lips caused his heart to skip a beat and his cheeks to slightly redden.
"No talks about my family around me," Kamiko said in a gentle but authoritative tone. She then smiled at him and took away her finger, "let's go?"
For the first time, Nagito was speechless. He nodded slowly and walked alongside Kamiko, taking the public transport to get home. While talking to each other, Kamiko had to look up at Nagito, realizing just how tall he actually was. Standing at an impressive 180cm, compared to her 164cm, made the back of her neck start getting sore. They were chitchatting about school, classmates, hobbies... Nagito made sure not to mention anything about Kamiko's family or her Ultimate status since she had told him she did not like it. More than anything he wanted to be in her presence so he could not risk upsetting her.
"So you're saying that all your wealth you got it because of luck?" Kamiko asked Nagito.
"Yes, actually. It's all about balance. For example, if I had a very bad event happen to me, then a very good event would happen, balancing good and bad luck," Nagito begins to explain, "in terms of where my fortune comes from, it is quite the story."
Nagito went on to explain how he inherited some great fortune from the death of his parents. When he was only an elementary school student, Nagito and his parents went on a family vacation at San Cristobel Island in the Galápagos archipelago. At the end of the vacation, the family boarded an airplane leaving from the San Cristobel Airport. Right after, the plane was hijacked. Then, due to his extreme luck, both the hijacker and Nagito's parents were killed in front of him after a small meteor crashed into the airplane. Because of that, he inherited all of his parents' fortune.
Kamiko looked at him with a concerned gaze. How much more did he go through in his life because of his insane talent. He was blessed with extreme good luck and was equally cursed with extreme bad luck.
"Nagito-senpai..."
"Kamiko-san? Why do you sound so concerned?" Nagito looked clueless towards the reason behind Kamiko's worries.
"It must have been hard on you to live like this," she locked eyes with Nagito and for a second there, she thought she felt a similar feeling to the one she felt around Mondo. It faded as soon as it appeared for her, but not for Nagito, as he also felt the butterflies in his stomach, which lingered for much longer.
They bid their farewells for the day, going their separate ways. Nagito's heart was beating faster than usual. He saw Kamiko as this perfect being and he was lucky enough for her to spend time with him. She was so beautiful that his body got hot and tense every time he saw her or even thought of her. When he returned home, he could not help but pleasure himself while imagining her and calling out her name.
Kamiko arrived at her family's mansion and was greeted by a line of maids and butlers. She sighed. It was so overbearing to live in that place. She headed straight to her room and started working on some programming commissions that are earning her some extra cash. She was planning on saving up enough money to be able to live comfortably away from her family. So far, she'd been doing good progress with it. If she kept that same pace, she'd be able to afford a nice condo around Hope's Peak Academy, which was in a very expensive area.
As Kamiko worked late into the night, Mondo was riding around with his gang around town. He was so taken aback earlier that day because of Kamiko. Her beauty was very distracting. After driving around for a while, the gang stopped in their usual hanging out spot.
"Boss. Is something on your mind?"
Yukimaru Takemichi, Mondo's most trusted member and interim leader of the Crazy Diamonds, their biker gang, asked. He had noticed that Mondo was a little lost in thought that day.
"Nothing. Just a fucking annoying classmate."
"Is there someone we need to deal with?"
Takemichi put his fists up as he said that. Mondo knew that he would do anything for him and the gang, but he could also be quite intense in situations when it was not needed.
"Forget it, it's not worth it. She's just hard to figure out."
"She...?"
Mondo didn't bother to explain further. He was too confused about Kamiko to say anything more. He decided to try and find out what she wanted from him the next day at school.
