Title: Dino Thunder: Prehistoric Rising
Rating: T
Summary: Years ago, the Doctor accidentally left Jewel behind in Leadsworth now she's stuck on the slow path but when she bumps into an old friend she finds herself setting up a new Power Ranger team to stop Mesogog from taking over the world.
"Ow," Jewel winced as she felt a spark hit her hand, pulling back from the crack in the wall.
The Doctor rushed over to her. "Are you alright?" he asked, checking over her hand for any signs of damage.
"I'm fine," she tried to reassure him but he had already taken out his sonic screwdriver and began analysing her, she quickly swiped her hand away. "No need to panic."
The Doctor guided her back to Amelia, "stay here," he said. "I can't lose you too…"
"What does he mean he can't lose you too?" Amelia asked, looking up to the brunette.
Jewel held her hand tightly, offering the eight-year-old a small smile, "Nothing," she said. "I promise everything will be fine."
"It will be once I sort out this crack in the wall," the Doctor mused, as they heard the voice once again. Telling them prisoner zero had escaped. They watched as he aimed the sonic screwdriver at the wall pressing a button. The crack widened all they saw was darkness. "Hello?"
Then suddenly an eyeball swooped down and glared at them for a few seconds. Amelia gripped Jewel's hand tighter. "What's that?"
"Security guard," Jewel offered, looking at the Doctor as he nodded in response. A flash of light flew from the wall and into the Doctor's pocket sending him backwards into the wall.
Jewel let go of Amelia's hand, "Doctor!" she rushed over to the Doctor as a flash of light sent him backwards to the other side of the bedroom. "You know," she sighed, "all I ask for is one night where the universe is not in danger."
"Then it will be no fun," the Doctor pouted, his eyes focused on the wall behind them. The crack had now closed completely. "There, see I told you it would close as good as new."
Amelia kept on staring at the wall, "what was that thing?" she asked. "Was that prisoner zero?"
"No," the Doctor answered, bringing out his psychic paper and passing it to Jewel, who flipped it open. "We think that's prisoner zero's guard, whoever it was sent me a message. Psychic paper takes a lovely little message."
Jewel frowned, "Prisoner Zero has escaped," she read.
"Why tell us?" The Doctor thought out loud, watching as his best friend shrugged in response. "Unless?"
"Prisoner Zero escaped through the crack in the wall," Jewel's eyes widened, as she looked around the room, tightly holding onto the psychic paper in her hand. She placed it in her pocket realising the Doctor was too busy thinking about other things and she thought he might lose it again and wasn't prepared for that breakdown.
The Doctor shook his head, "he couldn't have," he said, "we'd know," they ran out to the landing. "It's difficult, brand new to me, nothing works right, but there is something I'm missing…"
"Doctor," Jewel kept her eyes focused at the end of the corridor. "The doors," she swallowed hard.
"The corner of my eye," he whispered, slowly, looking to the door Jewel was also staring at. "Jewel Tyler," he offered a small smile, "you are brilliant."
Before they could do anything the cloister bell of the TARDIS rang. "No! No!" the Doctor yelled and took off running back to the TARDIS.
"Doctor," cried Jewel, chasing after him, she ran down the stairs as fast as possible glancing over her shoulder she could see Amelia following them.
Amelia breathed in, "what's happening?"
"I've got to get back in there," the Doctor said, as he ran back to the TARDIS. "The engines are facing, it's going to burn."
Amelia and Jewel caught him up, the brunette watched as the Doctor unhooked the grappling hook they had used to secure the climbing rope earlier from the ground. "It's just a box, how can a box have engines?"
"It's not a box," the Doctor replied. "It's a Time Machine."
"A what? A real one?" Amelia stood still, as she watched Jewel help the Doctor throw the rope into the blue police box. "You've got a real Time Machine?"
"Not for much longer if I can't get her stabilised," The Doctor turned to Jewel, "I'm sorry Jewel," he apologised. "I need you to stay here."
Jewel shook her head, "no way," she told him, shaking her head. "I am not leaving you to deal with the TARDIS on your own."
"It's not safe for any type of human to be in there," he replied. "I promised your mother and sister I will look after you. I promised Jack. I would be letting too many people down if something happened…"
"You can't leave me," she snapped back. "I am shit at babysitting kids."
The Doctor smiled, pressing a kiss against her forehead. "You'll be fine," he began to climb up onto the TARDIS. "Five minute hop into the future should calm the engines."
"Can I come?" Amelia asked.
"Not yet," he shook his head. "Even Jewel can't enter, she's going to stay with you, but I promise five minutes and then I will be back, we can go on a trip."
Amelia sighed, "people always say that," she said.
The Doctor stopped in his tracks, jumping back down to Amelia. "Do we even look like people?" Amelia looked up to the Doctor then turned to Jewel, who bent down to her.
"I promise I am right here," she offered a small smile, "I am not going anywhere until the Doctor gets back, deal?" She held out her pinky finger and Amelia wrapped her pinky around hers.
Amelia nodded. "Deal," she smiled, the Doctor began to rush back to the TARDIS.
"You have five minutes, Doctor," called Jewel, watching as nodded and screamed geronimo, jumping into the TARDIS. The doors closed and the blue police box on its side faded into the night. "Five minutes…."
Jewel looked down at her watch, counting down the seconds until five minutes was up. She looked to Amelia who had rushed back into the house a few minutes ago,and came back with a suitcase that was now sleeping on top of it. "Come on sweetie," she said, picking her up in her arms. "Let's get you to bed."

Several hours later
"What in the world?" Sharon Pond's cry had woken up both Amelia who was now in bed and Jewel who was sleeping on the floor with a blanket around her.
"Who on earth are you?" reaching for her phone before Jewel could even answer the question. Sharon was already on the phone to the police. The older woman had forced Jewel up from the floor and guided her down to the kitchen quickly.
Jewel raised her hands up, "I can explain," she tried to protest. "I work for Torchwood…"
"I have never heard of it," she snapped, "it doesn't explain why you are in my house?"
That was a question she had heard over and over again, she had earned a few chuckles and laughter from higher up sergeants from the police as she tried to explain that she worked for Torchwood.
"You little girl, do not work for Torchwood," he sat down in front of her before he could even say anything else as the door opened. Jewel could see the Brigadier walk through looking like he had about enough with a younger version of Jack Harkness not far behind him.
Jack had his hands in his pockets, "even if she did work for Torchwood," he said. "You would've given us a much better welcome, Sergeant."
That's where she was now, sat in a small interrogation room in Leadworth's police station with both the Brigadier and Jack sat in front of her.
"You owe me yet another favour," smirked Jack, as he leant back into his chair.
Jewel rolled her eyes, "put it on my tab," she muttered, forgetting how arrogant the younger version of Jack could be sometimes. "I didn't intend for any of this to happen."
"I gathered from Amelia," said Jack, folding his arms, "the little girl she was cute."
"You didn't," Jewel glared at him, her eyes widening in panic at the thought of Jack retconning Amelia.
The Brigadier shook his head, "no," he answered. "Alex wouldn't allow a child to be retconned but Sharon Pond has been," he watched as the brunette let out a sigh of relief. "Unfortunately it means you can't wait in the area for the Doctor to come back."
"How is that going to work?" Jewel began to protest, "he promised me five minutes, he could be lost, we should be finding him but it's not like Torchwood, this year at least has the technology to find him. Jack has spent how many years trying to find him?"
Jack coughed, looking slightly pissed off, "thanks for that."
"I've got a point," she muttered, folding her arms, looking down at the desk.
The Brigadier sighed, "we have recruited little Amelia Pond to help us," he began to explain, "she will give you a call if the TARDIS ever does land, and if she needs anything herself but for now UNIT is developing the technology to track the TARDIS."
"I won't tell the Doctor you have that," said Jewel, earning a look of appreciation from the Brigadier. "What do I do in the meantime?"
Jack offered the young woman a small smile, "I would say come and stay with me," he offered.
"I don't think I can," she shook her head, biting her lip. "I have always wanted to travel when I was younger but when Rose dropped out of high school and left with her then idiot boyfriend I couldn't because I had to look after mum."
"We can help with that," the Brigadier nodded.

Several months later
Angel Grove
"You didn't have to come with me you know," Jewel told Jack, as they lifted up the boxes of stuff that she had brought with her. "I could've done this on my own."
Jack shrugged, "I never take my annual leave," he told her, "so you're doing me a favour to get Alex off my back," he set one box by the door. "Do you want me to get more whilst you open the door?"
"How about helping me to get these into the flat first," she muttered, as she tried to find her keys. "Where did they go?" Looking up she saw Jack holding them in his hands with a smug look on her face, "why?"
"You dropped them on the way up," he chucked her the keys, "aren't you glad you have me here," he told her, leaning against the wall folding his arms with a smug look on his face.
Jewel shook her head, "regretting it every second," she muttered, looking behind Jack she saw a blonde haired woman with her son trying to shift past the boxes. "Jack, you might want to shift the boxes a little," she nodded her head over to them.
"Sorry," he apologised, shifting the boxes out of the way.
"It's no problem," the woman smiled, "are you both new to the area?"
Jack nodded, "I am," explained Jewel, "Jack, my guardian here," she watched as he raised his eyebrow. "He still lives in the UK but he offered to help me move."
"Well, welcome either way," she smiled, holding out her hand. "My name is Julie Cranston," Jewel shook her hand. "This is my son, Billy."
Billy awkwardly smiled, "hi," he said, shifting his feet. "It's nice to meet you."
"It's nice to meet you too," Jewel smiled widely. "Do you go to Angel Grove High?"
"Yes," he nodded, his eyes widening in realization, "you must be the new transfer student Ms. Appleby told us about," he told her, Jewel turned to Jack who shrugged in response, he hadn't told the school but maybe UNIT had.
Jewel blushed, "guilty as charged."
"I could walk you to school in the morning?" Billy offered, "and if you need any help with moving?"
"Thank you for the offer, Billy," smiled Jack, jumping at the opportunity. "that is awfully kind of you. Maybe you could help bring some boxes up for us?"
Billy smiled, "of course," he said. "I'm happy to help."
"Would you like a cup of tea Mrs. Cranston?" Jewel offered, as she was now standing alone in the hallway with Billy's mother.

"Jack," she cried, running around in Bernie's juice bar trying to find the 51st century man. It was still a mess due to the earthquake earlier, but there was no-one inside. She felt her heart beat inside her chest faster. It felt like she was back at the TV station all over again. "Jack!"
Jack rushed into the main hall, "where the hell have you been?" he demanded, seeing the immortal girl rush over to him, taken slightly aback as she hugged him tightly.
"Thank goodness you're okay" she breathed.
"I'm always okay," he looked up, seeing the five other teenagers staring at him like they just had the biggest shock of their lives. "You all look like you've seen a ghost," he laughed, his laugh fading as they all just folded their arms.
Jewel chuckled, unless he meant seeing a giant head in a tube and a robot telling them they were the last earths of defence then sure, "kind of," she muttered.
"Jewel, we can't tell him," Kimberly protested.
"Dealing with the unusual and aliens is his job," she pointed out, "he might be able to help us."
Jack parted her from the hug, "Jewel, want to tell me what is going on?"
"We were kidnapped by a giant head, and a talking robot," said Trini, causing Jack to blink in confusion.

It was months after that, Jack had left to go back to Cardiff but not before having a few choice words with Zordon about putting kids in danger, but he had reassured Jack that he and Alpha would be watching over them.
Jewel was also no longer the new student, which she felt grateful for as it took some of the limelight off her. Bulk and Skull also found someone new to target but it didn't take her long to figure out that Tommy Oliver was the evil green ranger.
"Don't do anything stupid," Jason had warned her when she walked over to Tommy to confront him.
Jewel stood over Tommy, folding her arms, "can I help you?" he asked, staring straight ahead at the wall as he brought the weights down.
"I know you're the green ranger," she told him, watching as he turned to her with a smile.
Tommy stood up, "I know you're the silver ranger," he shrugged. "It's not like that's news," she saw the flash of green in his eyes, and she knew that Rita was controlling him. "What do you want?"
Jewel paused, she originally wanted to confront him, tell him to stay away from her friends but seeing the flash of green in his eyes made her change tactics, "this isn't you," she told him, "fight it Tommy."
"What?" he asked, standing up he quickly grabbed her arm, pulling her towards him, "what do you mean?"
"This isn't you," she firmly told him. "Fight it," she cried out in pain as Tommy threw her to the floor.
Jason rushed over to his friend, "are you alright?" He watched as Tommy disappeared down the hall.

It took them a while but they had all helped bring Tommy back to the side of good. Jewel felt a slight discomfort in her heart as Tommy got together with Kimberly but she was pleased for them and they were her best friends, she wasn't exactly about to protest.
They soon learnt that Jason, Zach and Trini were selected to go to a peace conference, it was the first time they had new rangers on the team. Rocky, Adam and Aisha took their places. Shortly after Kimberly had moved to Florida to pursue her gymnastics career.
That was when Tommy had received the letter from Kimberly. Jewel opened the door to her apartment to see him standing outside, he was devastated.
"What did she say?" she asked, after making him a hot drink, she sat him down on the sofa.
Tommy passed her the letter, "here," he rubbed his face with his hands, "you might as well read it."
"That bitch," she exclaimed as she skimmed through the letter, hugging the red ranger who was shaking his head in response.

Katherine had been Kimberly's replacement and honestly Jewel felt like the team was a whole lot better.
"You know what I don't hear much of now," said Jewel, as she sat with Tommy in Bernie's place, he looked up at her raising his eyebrow. "Help me! Help me! Tommy, Jason, help me!" she gave her best Kimberly impersonation earning an amused look from her friend. "It was starting to get pathetic."
Tommy smirked, "is that your way of saying at least you save yourself?"
"Well, yeah," she grinned, sipping her cup of tea. "At least when I was kidnapped by Golddar and that idiot to become the new Rita I got out of there myself."
"I honestly have no idea why they chose you," said Tommy.
Jewel shrugged, "you know funny enough neither do I…"

"Congratulations class of 1997," said the headteacher, "you have officially graduated."
Hats were thrown in the air and cheers erupted in the audience. Tommy kissed Jewel as they celebrated between themselves and even though at first she was surprised, she pulled away as she saw Jack watching them in the crowd.
"Have you not told him?" Tommy whispered.
Jewel shook her head. "I didn't think we were serious…"
Their graduation ceremony was cut short though by another ranger emergency but after it was over. Jack had cornered her. "So," he paused. "You and Tommy."
"Me and Tommy," she nodded.
Jack nodded. "Have you told him you're going to MIT?"
"Zordon knows," she said, "that's why we agreed the silver ranger power is not going to be transferred," she bit her lip, "but no Tommy doesn't know."
"Are you going to do long distance?"
"Even if I did, why would it be your problem?" she asked. Jack shook his head, "thought so," she mused.
"Why do you hate me so much?"
Jewel shrugged, "you left me without saying goodbye."
Before Jack could even respond. Justin ran up to Jewel, "congratulations," he told her.
"Thanks Justin," she smiled widely at her new friend. "At least someone is happy I graduated," she glared at Jack and then walked away.

It was her first day at MIT and so far she was loving it. She had chosen to study computer science as it was always something that came naturally to her, she even helped the Doctor with the TARDIS computers.
Jewel was walking across the campus but then she stopped as she felt a golden wave hit her and the sense of hope but also loss filled her body.
"Zordon," she whispered, feeling her heart sink, she stopped and sat at the closet bench.
"Someone else sitting here?" A new familiar voice asked. Jewel shook her head, turning and her eyes widening as she watched Tommy sit down next to her.
Jewel shook her head, "what are you doing here?"
"I study at MIT," he told her. "Did I not tell you?"
Jewel frowned. "No," she said, "you failed to mention that," she paused for a moment. "Wait, what are you studying?"
"I'm studying Paleontology," he answered.
"Palaeontology," Jewel raised her eyebrow. "I'm just quite surprised you've chosen a science based subject."
Tommy smiled, "why is that so surprising?"
"Because you always had to get Billy to tutor you," she told him. "That's why I'm surprised."

They were studying in the library one day when she had caught a glimpse of Tommy's laptop in the corner of her eye, realizing that she had noticed he quickly tried to cover up his work.
"What are you working on?" she asked, curiously trying to lean over to try and see. Tommy gave in and showed her the screen. "Dino Gems?" she read.
Tommy opened up the case that was next to him, "they're so cool, right?" he asked.
"A bit glowy?" she tilted her head, staring at the five gems. "What are they?"
"That's what we are researching," he replied. "I found them whilst on a dig with Anton Mercer."
Jewel frowned, "the famous billionaire scientist?"
"Yeah," he nodded, "but I found something out that the Dino Gems are wanted by this guy, Mesogog," he showed her a picture of the villain.
"He looks charming," she noted. "What does he want with the Dino gems?"
Tommy shrugged, "that's what I'm trying to find out," he said. "I haven't got that far but I have gained access to the morphing grid…"
"And you need my help?" Jewel slowly said, there it was the question. Tommy looked at her with pleading eyes. "Fine, what do you need me to do?"
~*0*~
"Shut up!"
"I'm being serious," snorted Tommy, as he pushed past her to gain access to the computer. Anton Mercer walked down the stairs of the small island lab that he had paid for to hide the research, his eyes settling on the two teenagers arguing.
Jewel leaned over, "damn it," she muttered, spinning around in her bar stool.
"Is there a problem?" Anton asked, raising his eyebrow.
"No problem," she shook her head. "Tommy is just proving me wrong, which is a rare occasion," she looked at the man seeing the sweat forming against his forehead, he pulled his tie close to his shirt's collar. "Everything alright?"
Anton blinked, "hmm?" He mused. "I'm fine," he brushed her off, "look maybe you two should take the night off?"
"Really?" Tommy asked, slightly surprised.
"Yeah," he said, "you are only nineteen once," he coughed, "go have some fun," reaching into his pocket for a hundred dollar bill handing it to Jewel, "have a meal and drinks on me."
Jewel shared a concerned look with Tommy, "are you sure you're alright?"
"I'm fine," he snapped back, clenching his hands into fists as he placed them on top of the table. "Sorry, long night, go have fun…"
"If you're sure," they grabbed their jackets, "call us if you need us," Tommy firmly told him as they left the island for the night.
~*0*~
"Can you believe he gave us a hundred dollars?" asked Jewel, shaking his head, "he really mustn't be well to give us that amount of money."
Tommy snorted, "Jack gives me you more than that in a year."
"Only because he refuses to stop," she said. "I'm fine just living on a good old student budget. I lived for years in a small council flat," she watched as Tommy walked slowly behind her. "Are you alright?"
Tommy shook his head, "I'm worried about Anton, he didn't seem right."
"Do you want to go back and check on him?" Jewel asked, though she really hated cutting their date short she knew Tommy wouldn't be with it.
"Thank you," he smiled, pressing a kiss against her lips, "I'll see you at home?"
Jewel nodded, "see you at home, be careful," she warned him, watching as he ran off into the night.
~*0*~
Jewel woke up the next morning, her arms stretching over to Tommy's side of the bed frowning as it hit the covers, she lifted her head up, "Tommy?"
Where is he? She thought, as she swung her legs out of bed putting her slippers on and shuffled towards the door peeking her head out into the corridor.
She jumped as she heard a clash from the kitchen, walking over to the closet she grabbed a weapon out and held it tightly in her hand. It felt light and squishy but she shrugged and raised it up into the air, walking to the kitchen, she cried out as a figure walked over to her.
"Jewel," said Tommy, raising his hands up into the air in defence, "what the hell are you doing?"
Jewel breathed out in relief, "Tommy?" she shook her head, "I thought you were a burglar."
"What were you going to do?" he smiled in amusement seeing the Christmas wrapping paper in her hand. "Wrap me up?"
"Don't threaten me," she snapped, she looked into the kitchen seeing the case they had used to store the Dino gems on the counter and looked back to Tommy, he was covered in soot he had some bruises and he was resting against the doors hinges for support. "What on earth happened?"
Tommy sighed, "Mesogog," he winced, moving a hand up to his waist. "He took over the island, he killed Anton. I got some of the Dino gems out but not all…"
"Shit," she breathed, pushing him into the kitchen and she got out the first aid kit. Tommy sat on a bar stool, "what are we going to do?"
"I have no idea," he shook his head, "but we can't go back to the island…"
Jewel softly smiled, "maybe we should find six teenagers with attitude…"
"That's not a bad idea," Tommy mused.
"It was a joke, Tommy," she told him. "A joke."
