"River? What are you doing here"

Confused she Raised her eyebrow at he serious right now?

"what are you talking about sweetie you came to me…are you okay"

All the Doctor was able to do was express a guilty look and avoid eye contact. After several moments of uncomfortable silence, the Doctor gave in and mumbled "well actually I didn't. the old girl brought us here but to be honest I'm not sure why"

"I see and where were you before you landed?" River could read the Doctor like an open book and she knew he was holding something back from her. After no immediate response came, she pressed on. "Well? Come on it can't be that difficult a question Doctor where were you before the TARDIS brought you here?"

"Nowhere in particular dear" he played off still avoiding Rivers eyes. "just in the vortex doing some work on her engine"

She knew there was something he was not saying but figured now was clearly not the right time to push the matter. He obviously didn't want to talk about whatever it was that was bothering him, but she made a mental note to keep a close eye on his behaviour "oh okay. Well how would you like some company for a while? I've found myself with some time on my hands" she hummed with a wink.

The Doctor let loose a wide honest grin momentarily before faltering.

" How long is a while?"

"Oh I don't know my love but lets not worry about that now hmm? Let's enjoy our time together. Come on Doctor take me somewhere amazing" she purred with a twinkle in her eye.

The Doctor didn't need telling twice, he scooped his wife up in his arms and twirled her around eliciting a giggle from the Professor.

As the Doctor placed her back gently onto her feet, River suddenly became overcome by an intense feeling of Nausea, clasping her hand over her mouth she darted for the stairs towards the closest bathroom. Leaving the Doctor somewhat confused.

Barely making it to the toilet River expelled the little contents of her stomach into the bowl.

"River? …" the Doctor called tentatively from the doorway rubbing the back of his neck "River love are you okay?"

Between wretches River just managed to force out a strained "I'm fine…sweetie"

"are you sure? You don't look it"

"its just a little stomach bug sweetie, I had lunch on that seafood planet we went to on our second wedding anniversary. Do you remember?" seeing a slight nod in confirmation from the Doctor who otherwise remained quiet she continued "well I don't think the fish was exactly fresh…I was in a rush so I brought my lunch from one of those road side stalls instead of an actual restaurant. Its just a little food poisoning"

The Doctor seemed a little more calm by this explanation and if he was honest with himself he thought River should of known better than to go to a pop up stall, they were rife with bacteria and they tended to trade in cheaper fish.

"Okay love. But maybe we should have the old girl give you a work up in the med bay hmmm? Just to be sure?"

River groaned but reluctantly agreed "if it will put your mind at ease, it can't hurt. But sweetie once she confirms I'm fine, can we PLEASE go somewhere nice" she didn't really want to waste what time she had with the Doctor in the med bay, but she also knew the Doctor would only worry.

The Doctor grinned he wasn't expecting his wife to give in so easy, she must be ill he mused to himself "absolutely love! And I've got the perfect place in mind. No time to waste let's go!" he beamed as he gently helped River to stand and escort her slowly to the med bay.

"okay you just sit right there dear this won't take long" he said as he helped his wife hop onto the table and walked over to the scanner Unit

"just a quick full body scan and we will be out of he…." He stopped dead in his tracks rapidly blinking at the screen before him.

"what is it my love?" River asked confusion clear across her face

"that's not right" he continued as if he hadn't heard her.

"what is it!" River was getting frustrated now

The Doctor finally looked up from the scanner with a perplexed look plastered across his features

"River…when did you last...em..have your p-p-period" he stuttered out, beginning to feel his face flushing with heat. He was a grown ass Time Lord, a simple fact of human biology shouldn't make him blush, but it was an awkward subject to broach.

His wife was a little taken aback by the question. "umm I don't know, I've been very busy but at a guess...maybe three weeks? I don't know. Doctor! why does it…"

The penny finally dropped.

"No"

"Uh huh"

"No"

"yep…"

"No! that can't be right Doctor"

"this scanner is the highest quality piece of medical equipment you will ever come across far superior and accurate to any equivalent you could find in the far reaches of the universe. Do you really think its made a mistake?"

"Doctor…" River wasn't listening to anything he was saying she only had one thought which she voiced aloud.

"What have we done?"
