Scene change: Unnamed forest Southeast of Magnolia, Cave, Year x758
I woke up lying in a bed of leaves after being jolted by the alarm I had HUD set up a while ago. I don't really remember how long it's been since I started this whole routine. Getting up, I stretch a bit before saying:
"Megamerge"
[Biomatch Confirmed]
[Biolink Established: M.E.G.A System Online]
In a flash of light yadda yadda, you know what happens. I turned into X form, before summoning my buster and walking over to what I have deemed my calendar wall! And using the buster to carve another mark on it to put down yet another day. It's just a wall I started marking for how many days I've been here. Took a bit of practice to learn how to focus the laser like that but I managed. I don't actually need my calendar wall! HUD has an in-built calendar, but by the time I realized it, I already had a bunch marked down, so I just kept going.
After marking down the day on my calendar wall! I noticed that a lot of the entrance to the cave was covered in marks.
'Hey HUD, how many marks are there?' I asked my best friend. With him responding with the usual beam of info into my head. Huh, just a little over a year now.
I pretty much spent everyday for what according to my calendar wall! to be the past year just practicing using X form. And for how much I've filled the gauge? Yeah, it was barely filled at all. It is moving really slowly, and I still don't have the charge shot yet. I've managed to get it to the level where I don't need to actually have Model X in hand to transform but I still need to sit through everything else in the sequence.
Last time I checked for how much I filled the gauge, it said around ten percent I think. I don't like to look at how slow I'm moving. And that was after a year of constant practice and staying in the form even when I'm not actually doing anything, albeit I could only use my forms when I was awake since when I fall asleep it automatically dismisses itself.
Just glad that I don't have to shout at the top of my lungs to transform every time, my throat would give out if I had to.
After analyzing my calendar wall! Yes I must shout it every time, it is tradition. I headed out to my training ground, which is just the clearing I was spawned in when I was sent to this world. I've been coming to this specific clearing for the past year to practice and learn how to use Model X.
After warming up a bit, which was a little literal since I also just sunbathed a bit in order to charge up the batteries. Then I started blastin'. For a long time.
For like, six hours, at least according to HUD's clock that is.
I mean I wasn't just shooting my buster in random directions. I was, in fact, practicing the forms that were stored in the biometal from X. That, and also practicing some improvised attacks I remember Samus and the Mii Gunner from Super Smash Bros. doing. I figured some of those attacks might be able to translate into the Mega Buster since they have pretty similar qualities.
Heck, I even started experimenting with how the Buster can shoot without causing recoil. Turns out the reason for that is the dash jets on the boots have a compensating blast to make up for it, strong enough to negate the recoil, but unlike the actual Buster doesn't do any damage. It's to the point that I managed to figure out a way to recreate that blast attack the Mii Gunner uses to fly up.
It wasn't all that fun when I tried it, I landed on my face. Turns out that I'll end up on my face if I'm sent into the air in a way that X never had to deal with. So that was something to work on, took me a while too.
Plus I was even experimenting with my Dash that I got from X, luckily it's something that came in his baseline so I could use it even at zero percent. I managed to figure out how to use it in every step while running, making it so that the dash could be constant instead of a single burst. Though that one took a lot of practice to master, I ended up constantly crashing into trees when I didn't know how to stop in time.
This has been my routine ever since that fateful day, when I was sent to this world with the power of FLOATING ROCKS!
…
I need to get a life, but unfortunately I can't. Not yet at least, I'm still not ready yet. Seriously, I haven't even gained the charge shot for the mega buster. Let alone the double charge shot. Not to mention it still takes me a whole transformation sequence to get ready to fight, nobody is stupid enough to just let their opponent power up.
At least I think that's the case, I have no idea just how much of the anime and manga will be accurate to how people act in this world so I gotta prepare for if things are different.
Today is the same as usual, I'm alone in the clearing. The forest is silent as always with nothing but the sound of my Buster shots as I practice as per usual though there were exceptions whenever some of the more violent wildlife would attack me, though to be fair they were mostly normal animals so even then those days didn't really do much to change my routine. Still though, it was looking like today would be another one of the more peaceful days.
At least, it was until I heard a scream followed by your stereotypical 'pervert' anime laugh.
Acting on instinct I dash using the jets underneath my boots, to the sound and find a large green and purple ape-like creature I recognize as a vulcan standing over a very familiar white haired woman.
Raising my buster at the sight, I shoot at the vulcan making sure the blast isn't focused, sending it flying but not knocking it out since it got right back up and turned in my direction. Its face having an obvious lustful tint to it.
"Woman! Woman!" It chants before charging at me. "This woman small! Me like!"
Did it think I'm a girl? I know that I'm a little androgynous in my transformed state but still.
Ignoring what the vulcan is saying, I blast it again. This time aiming for the head and focusing the blast instead of allowing it to just have a knockback effect, luckily I don't have to worry about killing the thing since X's buster is automatically set to stun.
After blasting the vulcan it flinches back as the Buster shot hits it dead on with it falling forwards as well as unconscious from the direct hit.
Shooting it again to make sure it's not faking being unconscious, I turn to the woman. 'HUD analysis, is she hurt anywhere?' I command HUD with an authority I've never felt before. The surge of info from HUD tells me that while she is ok for the most part, her leg is injured so she can't walk for a while, but other than that and her elevated heart beat signifying her panic, she seems to be ok with her leg injury not seeming to be permanent.
Walking forwards with my Buster pointing at the sky, I approach the woman trying to appear as non-threatening as someone who has a cannon for an arm can. She seems to be calming a bit at the sight of the vulcan not moving in any way other than its back moving up and down signifying it still breathing.
As she notices me approaching, despite me knocking the vulcan out, or probably because I did that, doesn't start to panic. She just watches as I approach and stop in front of her.
"Are you ok?" I say, with a tone of authority that I don't understand how I have. Though it seems to be a bit soft in delivery, how am I talking like this? "Were you separated from your companions?"
"Yes," She answers, her voice just as eerily familiar as her appearance. "M-my husband, he's fighting more of those things! Please help him!"
"Do you know where he is?" I ask, again with that tone of voice. Seriously where did this come from?
"He's back at our cart, just over there." She answers while pointing in the direction behind the vulcan she must have been running from this thing.
In response to her answer, I pick her up in a bridal carry and ignoring her squeak, dash in the direction she pointed. Until I found a group of unconscious green vulcans that look just like the one I knocked unconscious. There was another group fighting a tan-skinned dark haired man near what I assume is the woman's cart.
Dash jumping over the group and the man, I set the woman in the cart before turning to the group of vulcans and the man who are now watching me. With the man looking furious at what seems to be me I assume, ruining his plan since I brought the woman back into danger.
Dashing once more this time towards the group, I let off a rapid series of Buster shots aiming to blow the group away from each other. I don't have access to the charge shot so I couldn't take down a group of them at once, even if I wanted to. With the group scattered and the man now no longer being surrounded. I aim at the closest one and fire, attempting to recreate the same thing that happened with the first vulcan.
After succeeding, the rest of the vulcans wisen up and try to attack me in a group. All of them charge me as I shoot one of them in the head as well, knocking it unconscious as well. Just as the last of the group catches up to me, I aim my buster towards my feet and fire, using the recoil and the 'compensating blast' from my dash boots to make distance away from the vulcans.
Just as I land and prepare to blast them again, the man from earlier shows up in my line of fire knocking one of them out. Leaving a couple of them standing, with it starting to glow gold and it charging him before I can warn him.
As it grabs him, he lets out a shout of anger and begins to glow gold as well. Recognizing this but being unable to do anything since the man is blocking my shot, I stand by and watch as the vulcan uses Take Over magic on the man.
As the light dies down, I notice that the man is still there though, and the vulcan is gone. Mostly.
The tanned man is now standing there with his left arm now resembling the arms of the same vulcan that attacked him. He must've overpowered it when it tried to possess him and ended up Taking Over the vulcan instead.
Using his new arm, the man then turned and punched the last vulcan launching it a good distance into the air. I fire at it, both to make sure it can't fight anymore and to test just how much my aim has improved over the past year.
Seeing as that was the last of the vulcans I lowered my Buster and approach the man.
'HUD, analysis.' I command as I walk over slowly, unsure whether or not the man is still fully in control as HUD begins to beam information about him into my mind as a notification appears in the upper corner of my vision ignoring it I continue to walk over before HUD beams the info the man is still in control and stop in front of him.
"Are you ok?" I ask, already knowing the answer. "Are you still in control?"
"Yes, but just barely. Thank you you saved us. I don't know what would have happened if you weren't here." Answers the man as he turns to me, appearing to be having a hard time not only keeping control but even balancing on the heavy arm. "Thank you for helping me and Jane. I'm Bruno, nice to meet you."
"Not a problem, are the two of you going to need any help getting out of here?" I ask before I continue "And just what were the two of you doing in here? This place is dangerous without a weapon."
"Jane and I were just passing through, the roads are being blocked by dark guilds and we have to get to our home village to protect it." He explains "Not many people there even know what magic is, let alone how to fight it."
'HUD, scan in as far of a radius as you can for any 'ether' signals that match the vulcans' I command HUD, after reading the notification that popped up. Apparently the Variant Weapons system copied the vulcan's magic core, so I can use the 'ether' in the air as a power source now, not just sunlight. As soon as I finished reading the rest of the notification, HUD sent a wave of information into my head. It would seem like all of the vulcans in the forest came after these two, why would they do that? These things are rather docile unless provoked and even then the most they would do is leer at a woman before letting her go or beating something until it gives up and leaves.
'What caused them to become so violent?' I wondered, actively thinking this to see if HUD might have an answer.
And answer he did, with a surge of information that can only be attributed to HUD, I found out that apparently there's a strange 'ether' signal coming off of Bruno one that is eerily similar to the vulcans that attacked them. Did Bruno's Take Over have something to do with the vulcan becoming so violent?
"You should be able to pass through the rest of the forest with no problems, all of the vulcan are either here and knocked out or not close by." I say as I continue to watch out for if Bruno loses control, "Though I would suggest trying to learn how to suppress your magic signature, it's what got the vulcan so aggravated in the first place."
"My magic?" Asks Bruno, a look of confusion on his face. "I don't have magic. I'm one of those people who have an awakened container but no inherent magic all of it goes into my muscles."
"You used Take Over," I explained. "You can reverse the process of a vulcan's magic and instead gain the abilities of the vulcan instead of it being able to use your body to prolong its life."
Bruno's eyes widened at my explanation, as if I said something impossible. With Jane making a bit of a surprised scream at it as well.
"You mean my Bruno can use magic!?" Shouted/Asked Jane. "What about me? Do you think I might be able to do it too?"
"Bruno can use the Beast Soul branch of Take Over magic, it is a type of magic that cannot be bought, though it does have a tendency for people who share blood with users to have talent in it." I explain, before moving to answer thanks to having HUD scan her for 'ether'. "Unfortunately it looks like you can't do it Jane, you don't have enough 'ethernano' in your system, sorry."
"How did you know my name?" She asked, why was she surprised? Bruno literally just told me their names, is she an airhead?
"Bruno told me, now if you'll excuse me I need to go." I say turning back and starting to walk in the direction of my training grounds. "If you have any questions about your new magic Bruno, just go to Fairy Tail. They'll have answers."
After finishing my sentence, I dash back to the clearing. Eager to test out the new abilities I got from beating the vulcan. As I dashed away, I heard the two of them shouting at me but I ignored it as I went on my way to my training ground. I should've been able to beat every one of those vulcans without risking the two of them, let alone almost having the vulcan take over one of them.
I still have a long way to go if I want to make any difference in this world.
Scene Change: Bruno and Jane's Cart, Same Time.
P.O.V Change: Bruno
"Hey! Wait!" I shouted to the person who saved me and the woman I love. "We still don't know your name!"
"Bruno, leave it be." Said Jane, from in the cart. "He probably has something important to do right now."
"Right," I responded. "How's your leg, can you walk?"
"No, but it'll heal." Knowing she's a healer, I can just take her word for it.
"Alright, if you say so." I said while picking up everything that fell out of the cart during the fight and putting it back in their places. "I still can't believe that someone so small can be so powerful. If I didn't hear his voice I would've thought he was just a little girl dressed up for some sort of game."
"Well, believe it." Retorted Jane, while some noise was coming from inside the cart. She must be organizing everything in the cart. "He saved me from a different vulcan that was chasing me when I ran to get help. He beat it in only a few attacks."
That's incredible. So he really is that powerful and those attacks weren't just lucky hits or something. Not only that but he seems knowledgeable too, he knew what happened to me when we didn't recognize it. I still can't get over that, I can do magic. I can actually do magic, this changes everything!
"Do you remember what he said?" asked Jane, knocking me out of my thoughts. "Something about fairies?"
"Yeah, he said 'If you have any questions, go to Fairy Tail.' " I quoted, remembering what our savior said "I don't know where that is, or even what that is, but if they know anything about how my arm is the way it is now, then we need to check it out."
"What do you mean 'what that is' ?" Jane said, confusion evident in her tone. "Fairy Tail is obviously a guild, dummy. Remember what the townspeople back in Magnolia were talking about?"
Oh yeah, they were gossiping about how their local guild is getting stronger. So the name of that guild is Fairy Tail huh? Was the kid who just saved us a member?
"Either way, let's take advantage of what that kid told us." I said, remembering the other thing he said. "He said that all the vulcan are over here, so we should get out of here while we still can."
Getting back onto the cart with Jane taking the reins of the horse, I flex my 'new arm' trying to get used to the feeling of all the fur and strength, moving it around in order to try and understand how it works. It feels really weird, like my arm has a strong buzzing feeling running through it, almost like my arm's circulation is cut off.
"You look like a kid with a new toy," Giggled Jane. "Though that childishness is a part of why I fell for you Bruno Strauss." She finished emphasizing my new name, and teasing me for how I took her name instead of the tradition of the wife taking her husband's name.
'Our kids are gonna be a major handful, I can just tell. My temper and Jane's teasing. Oh well, I wouldn't have it any other way.' I thought, wondering about what our future children might be like. 'If Take Over magic could be inherited, does that mean our kids might have it too? Just in case, better tell them about Fairy Tail too.' I finish the thought before another hits me.
"Wait, how do I turn this off?" I guess that visit to Fairy Tail will happen sooner than expected.
