I am an idiot.
How did I not see this?
Seriously, the charge shot. I really should've known that using it wasn't as simple as "unlocking it" by raising the gauge. I was actually using the charge shot this entire time! For the past two years! I've been using it to carve out how many days I've been here!
The charge shot is just a focused buster shot that was held back before releasing a large amount of the blast at once. Instead of just shrinking the nozzle and making the blast focus into a laser, I need to put a stopper and keep the blast contained, letting it build up before releasing. That's where the charge comes from, it's just multiple Buster shots stacked on top of each other.
I should probably elaborate on why I'm calling myself an idiot. You see, today when I was in my training grounds I accidentally left the stopper I usually set on my Buster when carving on my calendar wall! And when I went to practice my focused Buster shots like usual, I set another stopper on top of that one and ended up creating a block on it. So I removed the block when I heard a weird noise, one that sounded oddly familiar and thought it was gonna blow up. I didn't stop firing my Buster that entire time in my panic.
When I removed the focuser, I ended up releasing a very big blast that was about four times as big as my usual blasts. It was a different color too being green instead of the usual yellow. I ended up firing the first level of a charge shot, by total accident. When I thought that I would unlock it from raising my gauge in X form and drawing out its full power.
I just made myself look like an idiot for two years.
At least the gauge still had a purpose, cause it turns out that while I do have access to the variant weapons system. I can't use it to its fullest, at least not right now. I can still copy stuff but only to an absolute basic level like when I copied the magic core of the vulcan letting me have a second power source other than sunlight, or at least it was only the basic level until I unlocked the first level of the weapons system a little after the vulcan incident.
Now I can copy attacks, and launch them from my buster, but that's about it. I can't copy a weapon in its entirety yet. Or maybe I won't be able to at all? I unlocked the first level once I reached twenty-five percent and haven't unlocked anything further.
Turns out that combat is the type of training that will draw out the full power of the biometal, and while the movement training did help out with my maneuvering, it wasn't the primary way to fill up the gauge. After figuring that out I started actively going through the forest and fighting the vulcans here, filling up the gauge a lot faster than before. Now it's sitting pretty at a nice fifty percent, and it'll only start filling faster the more it fills it seems.
Guess that's the faster growth that I was supposed to have from the start, it just means I grow faster the more powerful I am. Talk about overpowered.
And now I even have something else to practice, since I managed to get the hang of most of the techniques I was practicing before while fighting. Now, let's try and do that charge shot again.
On purpose this time.
Raising my Buster and aiming at the sky, I place the stopper at 'full' in my Buster, making it so that all of the shots I fire are kept contained in my Buster. As I keep the stopper in place, I hear that same noise from before, realizing where I remember it from. It was the charging sound from the game, the same whooshing noise you would hear when holding down the button for a charge shot.
When I heard the noise getting louder, I opened the stopper and out came a large green blast just like before. I only held it for a few seconds so I guess it makes sense that I would only have the first level of the blast, there was a heavy recoil and after running the feeling through my head I figured I could have a lot more mobility options in the air with this one.
Looks like I have another grind to get to. Or I would've if HUD hadn't given me a notification.

POV Change: Macao
Damnit! There's too many of them.
I knew I should've brought some back up, but nooooooo~ I just had to 'make myself look good'. "Take on an entire bandit encampment" I thought, "they don't have magic it'll be easy" I thought.
I thought wrong! I really need some back up right about now, I'm completely outnumbered by far! Not to mention, one of them is a mage. He doesn't seem to be very powerful but it doesn't change the fact he's a mage and that there are a lot of bandits besides him too! I can't beat them all, I should've brought somebody with me. It could've been a big enough help to take em down.
And now here I am hiding in a weird cave that has a bunch of marks on it hoping that the bandits go away for long enough that I can escape.
"There he is!" Shoot, they found me. "Wait, that isn't the- aagh!" What the?
"What just happened? Wait, when did this kid get here?" a kid!?
Turning to take a look outside, I see just what they were talking about. There right in front of the bandits that were chasing me, with them standing in front of the cave I was hiding in, one of them knocked out, there really is a kid. He couldn't be any older than twelve or something, and was wearing a weird blue costume that looks like it's supposed to be some sort of armor. And pointing at the bandit that was knocked out. Wait, why does his arm look like it has a cannon on it?
Interrupting my thoughts, the weird cannon looking thing shot some sort of light from it that hit one of the bandits. He fell over, and didn't get back up. Was that what happened to that other bandit from earlier?
"Damn kid." Shouted one of the other bandits before he charged the kid. "You should learn to respect your elders!"
"Respect is earned." Is all the kid said before he launched another one of those blasts and hit the bandit, knocking him out like the other two. "Besides, you invaded my home. I don't really think that constitutes respect."
His home?
Taking a look around the cave, I noticed some things that I didn't notice before in my panic. The marks on the cave don't seem to be marks from wild animals or erosion, they seem to be marks done by a person. And then there were the leaves in here, I would've thought that the wind just blew them in, but they're piled up and seem to have been laid in. Does that kid live in this cave?
"Listen kid," That's the mage! "You have no idea who you're messing with. Scram."
Taking a look at the kid again, he doesn't seem scared at all. And is it just me or are his eyes glowing?
"You're a mage." Wait, how did he figure that out? That guy hasn't used any magic yet! "So I'll let you go if you choose to give up now, I don't want to damage my home if I can avoid it." What's that noise? It sounds like it's coming from one of the bandits! Are they using some sort of weapon?
"You're an arrogant one aren't you." sneered the bandit mage. "I'll try and make it painless." As he says that he readies a magic circle, the kid is aiming that cannon thing at him. And is he glowing now? What the heck is that kid doing?
I run out and knock out one of the other bandits using my purple net. Getting the attention of both all of the bandit mages and the kid. While the bandits are distracted I knock out a couple more bandits with my net while I can still keep it active.
"Leave the kid alone," I say, trying to sound confident. "You were chasing me weren't you? Well here I am, leave the kid alone."
As I finish saying that the mage just starts laughing, while the kid looks at me as if he recognizes me. How would he know me? I just started working at Fairy Tail so I shouldn't be too well known yet.
"Oh, we'll get to you." Says the mage as he finishes laughing. "But first up is him."
As he finishes saying that he turns to the kid with a magic circle active, dammit he's too far away I can't get him with flame whip from here.
I ran forwards activating a magic circle of my own and summoning my purple net again, but before I could get to him to stop him the other bandits attacked me. Hitting them out of the way I continue moving to the mage but I'm moving too slow, I won't make it!
"Kid, get out of there!" I shout, trying to warn the kid away from the attack. From the looks of the circle it's a lightning element spell, really powerful and the real reason why I had to run away. Lightning spells have a tendency to kill their targets if hit head on.
Just as the mage is about to activate the circle, with me being too busy taking out the other bandits the noise from before that I thought was coming from the bandits got really loud before there is a massive flash of blue and the mage is blasted away with him hitting the wall next to the cave entrance from the impact and falling down, not getting back up.
As I get my bearings, I notice skid marks on the ground from where the kid is standing with him having moved back a bit from the force of what seems to be an attack. There's smoke coming out of the cannon on his arm, and the noise from earlier stopped. Was that noise coming from the kid? Was he actually charging up an attack to beat the mage?
By the time I'm out of shock, I notice that all of the bandits have been knocked out. And the kid wasn't standing where he was earlier. Looking around I find the kid kneeling down and staring at the knocked out mage from before, his eyes are glowing again. What's he doing?
"Good, he'll be ok." the kid said getting up from his kneel. "I was worried I killed him by accident, but he's a mage so I assumed he could survive a full charge."
"Yeah, us mages tend to be more durable." I say noticing the kid was turning to me. "Sorry about the trouble, I didn't know anyone lived here."
"It's ok, though maybe you should bring a partner next time you choose to fight so many bandits." he said. "Maybe someone who could fight better when working with fire."
Huh, well the other new guy Wakaba uses smoke magic. And it is easy to get along with him, yeah that sounds like a good idea.
"Will do, honestly I was way over my head." I said while grabbing and putting the unconscious bandits in a group. "That's some good advice there, you in a guild?"
"No, but I'm training to join one." Huh, guess he's aiming for a high rank guild if he still needs to train. This kid is an absolute beast already, and if he needs to be stronger still then he's probably aiming for one of the top ten like Quatro Cerberus or Blue Pegasus.
"Well good luck then, and thanks for the assist" I say while tying up the bandits using my flame bind spell. "You want a piece of the reward? You definitely deserve a cut after all that help."
"No need, I just wanted these guys out of my forest." huh, guess he just doesn't like people being around then. I'll finish up quickly in that case, I do not want someone as strong as him angry at me.
"Alright then, I guess I'll see you around?" I ask, "Oh, by the way I'm Macao, a Fairy Tail mage."
"I'm not leaving the forest until my training is done, but you're welcome to come by if you want to train with me." Huh, guess he does like having people around. But seriously, he's not leaving until his training is done? Talk about dedication. "My name is Rep Lloyd"
"Well nice to meet you Rep," I say, lifting the bandits using my fire. "And I'll definitely take you up on your offer, maybe training with you will help me get stronger."
With that said, I walk away from the cave in the direction of the nearby Council HQ to turn in the job.
That kid is a weird one, strong but weird. Maybe he'll be ok with me taking that offer tomorrow? If that kid can get that strong training here, then maybe he can help me get stronger too.
Scene Change: Same place and year, one hour later.
POV Change: Rep
I got lucky.
That's all I can say about how that fight went down, I got lucky.
If it weren't for Macao distracting that mage like that and taking out so many of the bandits while doing so. I wouldn't have had that long in order to charge up a shot strong enough to beat the mage the way I did, and that's not considering all the bandits he had with him.
There were a lot of them, and I wouldn't have any way to both charge a shot and beat them all back at the same time. While my body is strong enough to punch down trees, I don't think I can beat them all like that without worrying about killing them. I might have ended up hurting them badly or worse if I used my fists while charging up my Buster, discounting the concentration it takes to keep the blocker on.
All in all, I got lucky. And I shouldn't be relying on luck like that when fighting, that type of behavior is what gets you killed when in combat. I need to work some more on charge shots, not just the timing and aiming like I was earlier today, but also how to keep charging it while moving around. I need to start from square one again, but I don't have any more time today. That fight took the last of my 'ether' reserves, and I need the rest of my solar reserves if I don't want to go hungry for the night.
I'll have to leave the training for tomorrow. Focus on how to retain my concentration while moving, even learn how to control my strength so that I can rely on hand to hand while charging. How will I do that though? It's been almost a decade since the last time I fought someone hand to hand and even then that was before I got my powers so who knows if that would translate in the first place.
Still, with Macao now knowing me I might be able to join the guild and just be considered an inactive mage until I'm actually ready. Speaking of, I probably should have told him my actual name but all things considered since I basically died I may as well go by a new name too. Even if I only said it as a pun.
Let's just hope that next time I see anyone from Fairy Tail it won't be in a life and death fight.
Scene Change: Same place and Year, Next Day, Noon.
POV: Rep
I wasn't expecting to see him literally the next day.
I thought it might be a while before the next time I see Macao. Or anyone really, nobody likes to come through this forest and for good reason, it's practically crawling with vulcans and while they may not be killers, there are animals here that are, and they're especially strong because they can handle the vulcans that are here even if in groups.
Still, it's a pleasant surprise that he's here. Though I really wish he didn't pop in out of nowhere like that, I was in the middle of practicing my movements so I almost blasted his head off when he showed up.
"Well, that's one way to welcome somebody." and he didn't come alone either, standing over him after Macao fell over trying not to get hit, is someone I recognize as Wakaba. I honestly can't be sure if it is him, I can only say it might because of his pompadour and cigarette.
"Sorry, you surprised me." I say lowering my Buster and walking over. "Usually people don't come here often."
"Yeah, sorry for that." Said Macao rubbing his head while getting up. "I didn't think you would be training already. So, I just came."
"Is this the person you chose to be your new partner?" I nodded at Wakaba. "Smoke Magic, should work well with fire."
"How'd you know I use Smoke Magic?" Asked Wakaba, though I can't tell if he was confused or not, it's hard to do that with someone who has their eyes closed. Wonder how he can see if his eyes are always closed, navigation from the smoke maybe?
"I can tell someone's magic just by looking at them." I lied, I just have HUD scan people and I didn't even need to scan him. "Yours looked a bit like smoke so I just put it together from there."
Again I lied, HUD just said his signal was similar to Macao and I already knew why.
"A sensor huh? Neat, I'm Wakaba" He introduced himself. "Macao here said you offered to train with him. That an open invite?"
"Sure, I was just thinking of an exercise earlier anyways. And mages who can use long range magic like the two of you would be a big help." I said, to which both Macao and Wakaba looked a little confused. "I need the two of you to fight me, all out, and using your magic."
"Woah there kid, ain't that a little much?" Asked Wakaba, at least sounding surprised I guess? This time at the exercise.
"Not really," Interjected Macao, answering for me. "The kid here is probably stronger than us to be fair, he took out that mage and half the bandit group I brought in yesterday."
"Wait, that was him!?" Shouted Wakaba, shock clear on his expression even with his eyes closed, though that's probably because of the dropped jaw. "I thought you said that there was another mage that took care of that guy."
"Yeah, he's the mage I was talking about." Said Macao, "Rep here said he's training to join a guild. It's the reason why I came by and asked you to come with, figured I'd offer a hand in that and maybe get a little stronger myself."
"Huh, well if you say he's that strong may as well." Wakaba still looked a little skeptical. "But don't go crying to momma if you get hurt, kid."
"Don't provoke him too much man. I don't wanna have to haul your ass back to the guild's infirmary." Sighed Macao readying his flame magic. "Ready Rep?"
"I should be asking the same." I said as I raised my buster, and got into position, ready to dash at the first sight of an attack.
"Then let's GO!" shouted Wakaba as he let loose a Smoke Fist at me.
I managed to dodge it in time after dashing to my left, but as I did Macao was launching a purple flame whip at where I was going to land. Blasting downwards I launch myself in a different direction before landing on my feet managing to stop myself before I could run right into the attack.
"Nice dodging kid! But-" I heard Wakaba say from my right. "You gotta attack too, otherwise you'll never win!" He finishes after launching another Smoke Fist at me, this time though I blast through it with a focused Buster shot, one that looked less like a yellow bullet made of energy and more like a yellow laser that tore right through the fist.
"Purple Net!" I heard from behind me, as I got hit by something launching me forward. "Hey didn't you want to fight both of us? Why aren't you fighting back then?"
"You asked for it." I said dashing in his direction, while charging my Buster. "Just don't whine when I let loose."
"There we go!" Shouted Wakaba, "But you're being too careless man, Smoke Crush!" As he heard that I heard the wind from the attack as it closed in on me, and Macao.
"Purple Rain!" He fired a series of balls of purple fire at me from the front, making it so that both sides are covered.
Thinking fast I dashed forwards before jumping up, just high enough to go over the fireball, but still being close enough to the ground that I could blast myself into position to dodge. After getting above it I line up my buster and the dash jets, being charged to the first level, before I fire at Macao with him scrambling over to dodge the blast.
Using the momentum from the blast I turn over so that I'm facing Wakaba, and as I fly at him raise my left arm, the one that isn't currently a Buster.
Wakaba, thinking that I'm gonna use the momentum to attack him, dodges to the side using a smoke hook to pull him over. Quickly re-oreinting myself I landed where Wakaba used to be ready to dash again and started charging another shot, with Macao now standing after recovering from the last blast.
"Ok, I take back what I said." Said Wakaba with yet another Smoke Fist at the ready. "Maybe I was the one who was being too careless."
"Told ya!" Said Macao before he launches another wave of purple flames at me, forcing me to dash to the side to dodge. "He's good."
Welp, time to fight a fire mage and a smoke mage. Two on one, against long range specialists both of whom obviously have good teamwork while limiting myself to charge shots and fists to attack.
I couldn't help the smile on my face at the challenge.
This'll be fun.
A/N:
Thank you SolSparda369 for the review, I'll try to make good action scenes for you. Hope everyone enjoyed the fight scene in the previous chapter.
Now, just in case I'm putting this note in here in order to explain a bit about the gauge for the biometals so hopefully there won't be any confusion. Basically I put that in there as a sort of measure of how much of the Biometal's full power he can draw out, meaning that right now he can draw out half the full power of Model X. Meaning he's about half as strong as Vent and Aile from the beginning of ZX. The gauge is meant to signify how close he is to being as strong with the biometal as the actual chosen ones in game. With him unlocking different aspects of the biometals when he reaches certain percentages.
However, some abilities he will have from the start and he won't be able to know what he does have and what he doesn't. Like with the Charge shot, he had that from the start but didn't know how to do it so he didn't get it. As for HUD and the help section, they won't teach him how to use the biometal's abilities, just how to activate them and how to activate the biometals in the first place.
As for what exactly he'll unlock as he reaches certain points, I'll leave that up to the imagination.
For stuff like E-tanks or extra equipment like the eraser chip or Zero's extra weapons in the Zero games, I'll be having a sort of equivalent like using a lacrima to allow him to create projections of himself without using Model P or something along those lines.
For Rep's name, I decided to name him the same way most characters in Fairy Tail are named. With a pun. Like how Natsu is "Natsu Dragneel" meaning Summer Dragon, and Lucy's meaning "Shining Heart". So I made Rep's name basically just be "Reploid" but split up because I am not creative. So, Rep Lloyd.
If you have any suggestions to a different name that you feel are better than please feel free to leave them in a review or DM me about it if it fits better I'll change his name to be that instead. Guys, please review. I need them in order to know what I'm doing wrong so that I can fix it moving forward.
