Chapter 3
Father knows best, listen to your dadsy!
(Author's Note)
Here we are with some Father Cap action! (Yes, this means that Mother Gothel is the Captain of the Royal Guards, and thinking on the Tangled: The Series, this... actually makes sense, kind of. At least in this AU it does.)
Please, if you'd like, load up a male cover of "Mother knows Best" and start playing it once the scene starts!

Back at the tower, time had passed and Varian had made a decision.
He sighed, "This is it."
"This is a very big day, Ruddiger." Varian then giggled, it sounded nervous yet happy.
"I'm finally going to do it. I'm going to ask him." He told the raccoon.
Suddenly, the voice of Father Cap came from outside the tower, "Varian! Let down your hair!"
"It's time." Varian said sternly.
Ruddiger shuffled a little nervous. "I know, I know." Varian comforted the raccoon.
Varian grabbed Ruddiger and put him behind a curtain and closed the curtain.
"Come on, don't let him see you."
"Varian, I'm not getting any younger down here!" Father Cap said.
"Coming, father!" Varian ran to the window, put his hair through a hook in the top of frame of the window, and then casted his hair down to him. Cap tied it in a loose, decent-sized loop and stepped inside of it, and Varian begins to pull him up to the window.
"Hi, welcome home, father." Varian smiled upon seeing Father Cap.
Father Cap took his cloak's hood off. "Oh, Varian! How you manage to do that every single day without fail, it looks absolutely exhausting, boy." He wiped his brow.
Varian put his hands in his purple pants pockets. "Oh, it's nothing." He said, blushing, thankful he got a compliment. He didn't get those often without a...
"Then I don't know why it takes so long." Cap said, then proceeded to laugh.
...That.
"Oh, son, I'm just teasing." Cap patted Varian on the head twice, quite hardly, they were like tiny little smacks to the head, but Varian took it anyway. "Allllright." He let out a tired sigh.
"So, father." He spoke shortly,
"As you know, tomorrow is a very big day."
Father Cap pulled Varian up to the mirror and held him close, "Varian, look at that mirror. You know what I see? I see a strong, confident, handsome young man." Cap pointed at the mirror.
Varian smiled and looked down happily.
"Oh look, you're here too!" Cap laughed again.
Varian sighed; why didn't he expect that.
"I'm just teasing, stop taking everything so seriously." Cap replied to Varian's small sigh.
Varian repeated, "Okay, so. Father. As I was saying, tomorrow is..."
"Flower, father's feeling a little run down. Would you sing for me, son? Then we'll talk." Cap sat down and fanned himself like he was melting away.
Varian jumped slightly, alert. "Oh!" He grabbed a stool, set it down and sat down on it while saying: "Of course, father." He proceeded to start singing, but it was really quickly sung.
"Flowergleamandglowletyourpowershinemaketheclockreversebringbackwhatoncewasmine."
"Healwhathasbeenhurtchangethefate'sdesignsavewhathasbeenlostbringbackwhatoncewasmine."
"Whatoncewasmine."
Father Cap was suddenly shocked with a whole burst of healing energy, which startled him. "Varian!" He gasped, mouth wide open with surprise.
Varian suddenly leaned in closely, his bottom barely halfway on the stool he was sitting on. "So, father, earlier I was saying tomorrow's a pretty big day, and you didn't really respond, So I'm just going to tell you. It's my birthday! Ta-da!" Varian said, excitedly.
Father Cap raised a brow, then shook his head... "No, no, no can't be."
"I distinctly remember. Your birthday was last year." He poked Varian.
"That's the funny thing about birthdays. They're kind of an annual thing." Varian awkwardly laughed. "Father, I'm turning 18. And I wanted to ask, what I really want for this birthday. Actually, what I've wanted for...quite a few birthdays now..." Varian's voice faltered.
"Varian please, stop with the mumbling. You know how I feel about the mumbling. It's very annoying- I'm just teasing, you're adorable I love you so much, son." Cap was saying, but quickly changed his tune. Varian finally spoke, loudly; "Aah! I want to see the floating lights!"
Then he hid his face.
Cap stared. "What?"
"Oh... Well I was hoping you would take me to see the floating lights." Varian looked at him.
Cap laughed, "Oh, you mean the stars."
"That's the thing." Varian ran over to his alchemy table, opening the cabinet and pulling out a bunch of scrolls, on them, star charts drawn all over them. "I've charted stars and they're always constant. But these, they appear every year on my birthday, Father. Only on my birthday. And I can't help but feel that they're... They're meant for me. I need see them, Father. And not just from my window. In person. I have to know what they are." Varian explained.
Father Cap raised a brow, unsure how to respond, then he clicked his tongue and shook his head, and spoke in a sing-song voice; "You want to go outside?"
"Oh, why Varian, look at you."
"As fragile as a flower."
"Still a little sapling, just a sprout."
"You know why we stay up in this tower?"
Varian started to interrupt his singing, "I know, but..."
Father Cap interrupted him instead with his singing.
"That's right, to keep you safe, and sound, son."
"Guess I always knew this day was coming."
"Knew that soon you'd want to leave the nest."
"Soon! But not yet!"
Varian tried to speak again, "But..."
Father Cap put his finger to Varian's mouth,
"Shhh.. Trust me pet." "Father, knows best."
Cap then began walking around Varian, doing motions with his arms in hands, dancing.
"Father knows best. Listen to your Father. It's a scary world out there."
"Father knows best. One way or another. Something will go wrong, I sweaaaaaaar!"
"Ruffians, thugs, poison Ivy, quicksand!"
"Cannibals, and snakes, the plague!"
Varian jumped at these lyrics, startled by what he was saying to him.
"Also large bugs, women with pointy teeth. And stop, no more, you'll just upset me!"
"Father's right here. Father will protect you."
"Sonny, here's what I suggest!"
"Skip the drama, stay with papa..."
"Fatherrrrrrrrr knows best!"
"Father knows best. Take it from your dadsy. On your own, you won't survive."
"You're sloppy, under dressed, immature, clumsy. Please, they'll eat you up, aliiiiiiive!"
"Gullible, naive, positively grubby. Ditzy and a bit, well, hmm vague."
"Plus I believe, getting kinda chubby. I'm just saying, 'Cause I wuv you."
"Father understands, Father's here to help you. All I have is one requeeeeeest!"
He stopped singing, "Varian?"
"Yes?" Varian's voice cracked.
Father Cap gave him a serious look. "Don't ever ask to leave this tower, again."
Varian choked back a cry, "Yes, Father."
"Oh, I love you very much, son." Father Cap hugged Varian.
Varian softly smiled, though it was somewhat forced. "I love you more."
"And I love you most."
Father said, kissing Varian on the top of his head.
He then started singing again,
"Don't forget it. You'llllll reeeegreeeet it."
"Father knows best!"
Father Cap then gathered his cloak and then headed to the window, "I'll see you in a bit, my flower." He cooed to the boy. Varian awkwardly smiled. "I'll... be here..."
