Chapter 6
I am a despicable human being.
(Author's Note)
I skipped the Reprise song, since I didn't have the lyrics on-hand, and face it, I'm lazy. (Joking, joking...)
But Varian is still a startled lil'guy upon meeting grass for the first time, a ha ha ha ha ha.
Enjoy!

Flyianna arrived at the window, "You coming Blondie?" She asked him.
This was it. This was when Varian's life would begin, at least he hoped it would.
Varian nervously headed to the window, casting his hair down. Ruddiger was perched on his shoulder... He crawled onto his own hair, took a deep breath and then quickly slid down it.
Only to stop just a few feet from the grass.
There was only a small gap of air between the bright, colorful grass of the outside world and Varian's barefeet, and it was absolutely terrifying.
He looked at Flyianna, waiting for him in the window.
She was waiting, he had to touch it.
Varian stretched one of his feet out to the grass until a single piece of grass tickled his foot. He was alarmed, but he slowly stepped one foot into the grass, and the other foot as well.
He scrunched his feet in the grass, it was so soft, yet itchy.
Varian's eyes lit up with extreme excitement. "I can't believe I did this."
He looked down, "I can't believe I did this." He mumbled.
Varian ran around, "I CAN'T BELIEVE I DID THIS!" He shouted, dancing around, until he wasn't, and he was sitting on the ground, staring at a rock. "Father will be so furious." He whimpered. He shook his head, "That's okay though, what he doesn't know won't kill him, right?" He lightened up, for a second. "Oh my gosh, this will kill him." He looked back at the rock, terrified.
Minutes later, Varian was jumping through the river, laughing. "This is so fun!"
Then he was sitting near the river, his feet dangling into it. "I am a horrible son, I'm going back."
And another handful of minutes later, Varian was chasing butterflies, screaming; "I'm never going back!" He was giggling. Annnnnd he just laid face down in a pile of flowers and grass, butterflies flying around him. "I am a despicable human being." His voice cracked.
"WOO-HOOOOOOOOOO! BEST, DAY, EVERRRRRRR!" Varian was now circling a tree by using his hair to swing around it like a monkey... Annnnnnnd now he was sobbing profusely.
Flyianna cleared her throat and sat down beside him.
"Y'know, I can't help but notice, you seem a little at war with yourself here." She spoke.
Varian sniffled, "Really?" His voice cracked again.
"Now, I'm only picking up bits and pieces." Flyianna waggled her two hands in front of her before she explained. "Overprotective Father, forbidden road trip."
"This is serious stuff. But let me ease your conscience."
"This is part of growing up. A little rebellion, a little adventure."
"That's good, healthy even."
Varian laughed at her, "You think?"
Flyianna put her hand on Varian's shoulder, "I know. You're way over thinking this, trust me."
"Does your Father deserve it? No. Will this break his heart and crush his soul? Of course."
She sighed, but smiled. "But you just got to do it."
Varian's eyes pricked with tears. "Break his heart?"
"In half." Flyianna responded.
Varian sobbed, "Crush his soul?"
"Like a grape." Flyianna responded.
Varian looked down, "He would be heart broken, you're right..." He looked at the dirt sadly.
"I am, aren't I?" Flyianna stood up, "Oh, bother. Alright, I can't believe I'm saying this, but...I'm letting you out of the deal." Flyianna looked at Varian seriously.
He looked at her with surprise, "What?!"
"That's right. But don't thank me. Let's just turn around and get you home, here's your pan, here's your cat. I get back my satchel. You get back a Father-Son relationship based on mutual trust and viola! We part ways as unlikely friends." She patted his back, handing him his frying-pan and Ruddiger to him. Varian, holding Ruddiger and his frying-pan, glared.
"No, I am seeing those lanterns."
Flyianna snarled, "Oh, come on! What is it going to take to get my satchel back?!"
Varian held up the pan to her face, "I will use this."
Ruddiger hissed at her.
Suddenly, there was something in the bush that moved, scaring Varian to the point that he clinged to Flyianna, not just with his arms, but his legs, so he was just basically hanging onto her.
"Is it, ruffians, thugs? Have they come for me?!" Varian cried.
It...was a rabbit.
Flyianna whispered, jokingly and extremely sarcastically. "Stay calm, it can probably smell fear."
Varian slid off of Flyianna. "Oh, sorry. Getting just a little bit... jumpy..." He wrung his wrists nervously. "Probably be best if we avoid ruffians and thugs, though." Flyianna closed her eyes.
Varian agreed, "Yeah, that's probably best."
Wait.
Flyianna had an idea.
"Are you hungry? I know a great place for lunch." She winked.
Varian's eyes gleamed and glowed, "Where?" He smiled brightly, showing his bucktooth.
"Oh, don't you worry. You'll know it when you smell it." Flyianna wrapped her arm around Varian and walked with him to the woods, where they would find a place to eat.
