"Oh, I can't believe my baby sister is going to Beacon with me! This is the best day ever!" A blonde girl dressed in a less than modest outfit exclaimed as she enveloped one Ruby Rose in a suffocating hug.
Ash softly laughed at Ruby's expense as he sat on a sort of bench that was built directly into the interior of the 'Airship' as Ozpin called it, trying his hardest to mind his own business despite the very loud conversation happening nearby.
It almost reminds me of the time I spent with Solaire..
Ruby mumbled something that Asche couldn't quite hear from where he was sitting, though it must have been something vaguely similar to 'Stop it, you're crushing my ribcage.'
"But I'm so proud of you!" The blonde girl exclaimed.
"Really, Sis, it was nothing."
"What do you mean? It was incredible! Everyone at Beacon is going to think you're the bee's knees!"
Bee's... Knees? I'm never going to get used to these strange phrases.
"I don't want to be the 'bee's knees' , okay? I don't wanna be any kind of knees! I just want to be a normal girl with normal knees."
Ash quietly laughed at the girls and started to remove his glove and gauntlet, his heavily scarred hands meeting the air.
He carefully reached into one of his pouches and pulled out a large red feather, taken directly from the signature helmet of the great Knight Solaire.
He smiled softly as he held it with two hands, careful to not let a stray gust of wind steal it from his possession.
"Oh, Solaire... What would I have done without you?" He mused to himself as he gazed sadly at the feather.
He gently returned the feather to it's place in a pouch secured close to his heart, carefully tying the string closed and making sure not to damage the keepsake.
Just as he finished tying the drawstring, the sound of an electronic screen blared to life, severely startling him as he launched to his feet and sending his leather glove flying out of his lap, the more heavy gauntlet falling harmlessly to the floor.
"Hey! Your glove hit me in the face, jerk!" Shouted the blonde haired girl
"Yang, it was just an accident! Be nice!" Ruby exclaimed to her sister
"Uhh, he's tall.." Yang whispered to her sister as Ash stood to address her
And Ash supposed he was quite tall compared to the rest of these people, standing at a height of 7'4.
"My apologies.. It seems that device startled me and I forgot that it was on my lap.." Ash apologized
"Big guy with a huge greatsword afraid of the news anchor? Hah!" Laughed the girl now known as Yang
"I.. It's no fault of mine! we have no such things in my homeland!" He responded, sounding thoroughly insulted and quite flustered.
The younger girl, Ruby, knelt down and picked up Asche's glove and his gauntlet from the floor as Yang angled her head away in defiance.
"Here's your glove back. I like your sword, by the way! Its so cool!" She complimented his prized greatsword as she handed back his glove, earning some small portion of his affection.
"Thank you. I'm quite proud of it." He gently took his glove from her and slipped it over his hand as he equipped both it and his gauntlet.
An electronic chime sounded off throughout the vessel, gaining the attention of Asche and all the other students.
Asche turned to face a curious sight, it was the woman from the other night, but she was completely transparent. Maybe it was another one of Remnant's various technologies?
"Hello, and welcome to Beacon!"
"Who's that?" Asked Yang
"My name is Glynda Goodwitch."
"Oh."
Ash chuckled, gaining a frustrated glare from Yang as Glynda Goodwitch continued to speak.
"You are among a privileged few who have received the honor of being selected to attend this prestigious academy. Our world is experiencing an incredible time of peace and as future Huntsmen and Huntresses, it is your duty to uphold it."
"You have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task, and now, it is our turn to provide you the knowledge and the training to protect our world." Finished the projection of Glynda Goodwitch.
"Wow." Ruby gasped and moved to look out the window at the buildings below the flying vessel.
Ash curiously approached the window, but just as quickly back away as he saw just how high up off the ground they were.
"Look, you can see Signal from up here!"
"I guess home isn't too far after all!" Said Yang as she moved to place a hand on her sister's shoulder.
"Beacon's our home, now." She squeezed Ruby's shoulder as a sign of affection
A nearby boy's cheeks puffed out as if to hold a large volume of liquid in his mouth, he then made a few noises of sickness and started to stumble around the cabin of the flying vessel.
"Well... I guess the view isn't for everyone." Joked Yang
"It was a nice moment while it lasted."
"I wonder who we're gonna meet."
"I just hope they're better than 'Vomit Boy.'" Ruby deadpanned.
Ash grabbed Yang by the shoulder and gently pulled her backwards as said 'Vomit Boy' lost all his lunch where she was previously standing.
"Gross, gross, gross..." Yang repeated as she backed away from the puddle of puke on the ground, thankful that none of it got on her.
Ash stepped around the puddle and patted the boy on the back reassuringly
"Happens to the best of us." He chuckled.
...
As soon as the vehicle touched down, the boy, who Ash exchanged greetings with and learned was named Jaune, immediately rushed out and continued to vomit in a nearby trash bin.
Ash gave him one last friendly pat on the back as he walked by, his gaze trained on the scenery around them as he walked closer to the academy.
"Wowww..." Yang and Ruby awed in unison as they stared at the building infront of them.
"The view from Vale's got nothing on this!"
Ruby suddenly started to get sidetracked with looking at all of the different weapons carried by students. "Ooh! Ooh! Sis! That kid has a collapsible staff! And she's got a fire sword!"
To Ash's surprise, one student did indeed have a sword that was constantly set ablaze.. Or did it extinguish when it wasn't in use?
Yang reached out to stop Ruby from wandering off and scoping out more weaponry
"Ow, Ow..."
"Easy there, little sister. They're just weapons"
"Just weapons? They're an extension of ourselves! They're a part of us! They're so cool!" Ruby exclaimed.
"Well why can't you swoon over your own weapon? Aren't you happy with it?" Yang asked, clearly not understanding why her sister was so excited about someone else's weapons.
"Of course I'm happy with Crescent Rose!"
Ruby swayed side to side with her impossibly giant scythe slung across her shoulder, Ash was still astounded that she could lift it, and his mind was thoroughly blown when she started to hold it up with one hand.
"I just really like seeing new ones. It's like meeting new people. But better..."
Yang playfully pulled Ruby's hood down over her face with a small laugh "Ruby, come on, why don't you go try and make some friends of your own?"
Ruby flipped her hood back down "But why would I need friends if I have you?"
A group of people showed up behind Yang "Well... Actually my friends are here now. Gotta go catch up. 'Kay see ya bye."
"Wait!" Ruby called out as Yang quickly left her to herself, swooped away by her friends
"Where are you going? Are we supposed to go to our dorms? Where are our dorms? ...Do we have dorms? ...I don't know what I'm doing.
Ash grabbed Ruby's hand before she fell down onto a cart of white suitcases and made a fool of herself, however, a couple were knocked over in the commotion.
"Are you alright, Miss Rose?"
"I- Yes! I'm okay! Wait! How do you know my last name?" Her face flushed with embarrassment and she pulled her hand out of his grip.
Ash chuckled "Ozpin said it on the night you tried to stop the robbery that Torchwick fellow pulled."
"Oh. Hehe..."
"What are you doing!?" A voice yelled out from behind him as Ash turned to face the originator.
Ruby nervously scratched the back of her head as the girl angrily spoke to her "Uh... Sorry."
"Sorry? Do you have any idea of the damage you could've caused?"
"Uhh..."
Ruby bent down to pick up a suitcase that she had accidentally knocked over
"Gimme that!" The girl ordered, snatching the case out of Ruby's hand
Ash narrowed his eyes at the girl, patience wearing thin from her rudeness towards Ruby.
"This is Dust mined and purified from the Schnee Quarry"
"Umm..."
"What are you, brain dead? Dust!" The girl asked, thoroughly annoyed and quite rudely
Ash's annoyance rose as the girl started to insult Ruby, and he glared at her accordingly.
The girl clad in all white rolled her eyes and retrieved a red bottle of this 'Dust' from the suitcase, waving it around like a conductor instructing an orchestra.
"Fire, Water, Lightning, Energy!" The girl continued waving around the bottle with each word, a red cloud of said substance blowing into Ruby's face
"Are you even listening to me? Is any of this sinking in? What do you have to say for yourself!?"
Ruby's head cocked back, and then shot forwards as she sneezed quite violently.
The both of them were enveloped in soot and smoke from the small explosion, luckily nobody was harmed, except for maybe the white haired girl's pride.
"Unbelievable!" She fumed angrily, as she was covered in soot and Ash laughed at her
"This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about!" She briefly patted herself off, getting rid of the black tint upon her person.
"I'm really, really sorry!" Ruby apologized, even though it really wasn't her fault.
"Ugh! You complete dolt! What are you even doing here? Aren't you a little young to be attending Beacon?
"Well... I-" Ash stepped infront of her, facing the angry girl with his arms crossed
"She apologized, it wasn't her fault. You should be more careful with your things." He glared at the girl, tired of listening to her needlessly berate Ruby
"Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, one of the largest producers of energy propellant in the world." A new girl had appeared, one with sharp yellow eyes and a black bow atop her head
"Finally, some recognition!" Said Weiss proudly, briefly turning to glare at Ash with her hands on her hips.
"The same company infamous for it's controversial labor forces and questionable business partners." The sharp eyed girl finished with a smirk
Ash placed his fist infront of his mouth and snickered at the girl.
"What- How dare--! The nerve of-! Ugh!" Weiss snatched the bottle of red dust from the girl's hand and stormed off as a nearby servant began to collect the dropped suitcases.
Ash swiveled and started to help the servant collect the dropped packages as Ruby tried to talk to the other girl, only to turn and realize that she had walked off.
Ruby fell to her knees, and then sprawled out onto her back in defeat. "Welcome to Beacon..." she muttered.
Ash turned to find Jaune offering Ruby a hand to pull her up off the ground "Hey... I'm Jaune."
"Ruby." She grabbed his hand and he hoisted her up off the ground.
"Ah, hello again Jaune!" Ash spoke in a jubilant tone as approached and offered a handshake
Jaune firmly grasped his hand and shook "Hey, Ash!"
"Nice to see you really are human, you almost had me fooled with that green face of yours earlier!" Ash joked.
Jaune reminded Ash of himself when he was first starting out in Lordran, and gods know he needed an ally or a friend to rely on back then, so Ash introduced himself to the boy.
Jaune released his hand and scratched the back of his head while laughing.
"Aren't you that guy threw up on the ship?" Ruby piped up, and Jaune visibly deflated.
...
