Chapter 1

Waking up in a random forest is really bad for your back. As I take in my surroundings I think back to why I was here in the first place.

Previously:

"So let me get this straight. All afterlife's are really, it just depends on what a person believes in. And being the atheist I am, I get to choose what type of afterlife I want."

"That is correct."

"Okay then, that makes this much easier. I want my afterlife to be a self-insert."

"… okay. Where?"

"Fairy tail."

"Done. Now if you want anything else you will have to do some things for me. Each request will have a corresponding favor with a scaled difficulty. Do you have any requests?"

"Sure. I want to make up my own magic. I want to be 10 in the year X775. I also want to be in the Kingdom of Fiore."

"The first favor will depend on the magic you choose, but basically it's to change the plot. The second and third will come together as one favor. Let higher beings observe you if they wish to do so. Now what do you want as your magic?"

Currently:

As I finish reminiscing I get ready to try my first ever spell. I cross my legs and try to reach for my core. After about five minutes of nothing, I open my eyes and sigh.

"This is more difficult than I thought it would be."

X776

Running is so much fun when you don't have asthma. I never quite understood why people liked to exercise until I could actually do it without dying from lack of air. As I run I think back to all the time I had wasted trying to get in touch with my magic by meditation. I didn't realize that by sitting still my magic was too calm for me to find it. It was like trying to find my kidney, as opposed to when I'm exercising it's like trying to find my heart.

After a month of no results with meditation, I decided to take a break from magic and try out my body. I was very curious because I remembered in the story most of the characters had insanely strong bodies. I was so excited to really test what I could do, because even though I was still in the forest when I woke up, hunting didn't really challenge me once I made some tools and figured out how to use them. I was very quickly reminded that they trained not just their magic but their bodies as well.

Even though I was almost passed out on the ground after that first disastrous first work out, I was still smiling. After all, I had felt my magic. Flash forward eleven months and now I was using all the spells that I had asked for. My most used spell was both my weakest and my strongest spell, it all depended on how much magic I put into it. It was called Info, when I used this spell I had to pick a target and depending on the amount of magic I put into it I could get different things. I had three categories to choose from and each of those categories had ten levels of ascending magical power requirements.

The first category is History, and it lets me look into the past of an object. It can be anything from finding out how long ago an animal left this footprint to when people last passed by here. I can only use up to level 2 of this category. The second category is Observe and it just gives me information on what I am using it on. This one is a bit more broad in its information and can be anything from how big this forest is to will this branch make a good spear. The last one is the most power intensive spell that I have and I don't think that I will ever be able to use level 10. Right now I can only use the first level and the second level costs 10 times the magic the first level costs. Right now all it can tell me is if what I am doing will blow me up. The spell is called Seer.

As I am running through the forest thinking about my favorite spell I decide that I have enough time before dark to check my traps. So after finishing my run for the day I head over to the first of my traps. When I first woke up in this forest I had to sustain myself on what I could catch with my atrocious skills and whatever random things I could find in the forest. I very quickly learned that I should wait and watch before I tried anything. It only took a single night with the runs to drive in that lesson. Now that I could use my magic to help with my hunting it was much easier. Walking up to the first of my creations I cast Observe on it.

Hanging Tree

Placed here by its creator the only purpose of the hanging tree is to catch any prey that happens to run under its branches. It kills them swiftly by wrapping its branches around their necks and giving a quick cut to the throat. It then stores the bleeding corpse inside its hollow trunk. It feeds on the blood for nourishment.

Capacity:

2 deer

4 rabbits

1 wolf

After I remove all the animals from inside the tree and take them back to my camp I am almost giddy to start on the first of my offensive creations. When I finish bringing back all of the animals to camp I immediately place the rabbits and deer in front of my second creation Orion. I made him because I didn't want to spend all of my time butchering, skinning, tanning, and preserving my kills. He is a living tree that kind of looks like a teenage Groot.

"Prep them all except one rabbit for storage. After you finish with your first rabbit, give it to Doris to make for dinner."

"Yes sir."

After I give out instructions I begin to prepare the wolf. Now the first part of my magic is pretty easy to understand. It is just something that can give me information, it is just support for my main magic, Monster Make. Monster Make has two types, Create or Imbue. Create is easier to make but is more power intensive and a lot weaker. I can also store 'patterns' to make more copies later. Imbue is a lot harder, it needs ingredients. At least one main ingredient and two small ingredients. It also can't be on the fly as both the ingredients and the process need extensive preparation. The more ingredients you use the longer it takes.

A cool thing about the magic is that if I make an Imbue monster then I can store the pattern and make a Create type out of it. The newly made monster will still be weaker than the Imbue monster but it will be stronger than the Create monster. That is why I can't wait to make my first offensive monster. I'll finally be able to hunt other creatures and have a chance at winning.

I knew eventually I would catch some sort of predator. And I had been thinking about what kind of monster I would like to create for a while. So using Observe I had gathered the two small ingredients a long time ago. Some obsidian I had found and a flower that can actually disappear into shadows. The first step in the process is to draw out the circle. This alone takes a while because there are so many parts that need to go together. The inner circle is where the wolves go and the outer circle has two triangles where the obsidian and the flower go. The way the circles go together involves a lot of geometry and some magical knowledge that I had downloaded into my brain when I woke up that first day.

I finish the circle in under half an hour and then start on the second step. Infusing my magic into the ingredients while thinking what I want to get out of each of them. From the obsidian I want the strength and the sharpness of its edges. From the flower I want the ability to blend into the shadows. From the wolf I want the hunter and loyalty to the pack. After I finish with that it is time to start the last step. I cast the spell Seer.

"Will this harm me?"

The answer I get back isn't really words but I can get the general vibe that I should wait until after dinner so my magic can replenish itself first. So I walk over to where Doris is finishing with dinner. I sit down on a stump by the fire and wait for her to be done. I made Doris and Orion pretty much at the same time. I made him from some wood, stone, and some vines. I made her from some clay and water I gathered from a nearby river. When Orion talks it sounds like the wind blowing through the trees. When Doris speaks it sounds like rushing water. Both sound very nice and are nice to hear. As I sit and contemplate by the fire I ask Orion and Doris to sing. They do and what comes out aren't words but something you would hear during a mild summer storm. They continue through dinner and I relax while eating some rabbit stew.

After dinner I tell them to stop singing. Orion continues his work and Doris comes to watch over me during the final part of the ritual. I sit outside the circle and place my hands at the edge of the circle. I start pouring my magic into the circle and it lights up, first the outer circle, then the triangle and the ingredients in them. It is at this point that I notice that my magic is starting to get a bit low. Finally the inner circle and the wolf light up and I cast my spell.

"GENESIS BEGIN"

I shout as the light reaches its crescendo, the light then flashes and as darkness starts to cover my eyes I see a dark figure in the middle of the circle start to move.

I slowly come to feeling like I fell out of a tree. I freeze as my pillow moves, slowly opening my eyes and I see that I'm in my shelter that I built inside of a tree. My pillow moves again as I turn around to look at what is moving. As I take in the black wolf behind me it opens its eyes and yawns. When it stops and looks at me it all comes rushing back. The ritual caused me to pass out at the end because of low magical reserves. I had thought that I had a good amount of magic but apparently not if the lowest level ritual caused me to pass out. As I am thinking of this the wolf nudges me. I get up and walk towards the door. It is morning outside so I guess it knocked me out for the whole night. Doris and Orion are standing outside in rest mode to conserve power. When I walk out they both awake.

"Doris, make breakfast. Orion, stay in rest mode until called upon."

With the orders given I turn around and cast observe on the wolf.

Shadow Wolf (unnamed)

A wolf with sharp claws, a strong hide and the ability to use the magical ability shadow walk. Shadow walk is the ability to hide in shadows, it can move from shadow to shadow as long as the two or more shadows overlap. Its ability to shadow walk depends on how much light there is as too much light will reveal it and two little will stop it completely. It can only walk in shadows, it can not hide in the darkness.

Magic Power(MP): 100

Heath(HP): 80

Stamina(SP): 70

Attack(A): 20

Defense(D): 20

As I read the information I think of what to do next. I sit down by the fire pit and go over my options. One I could stay here as I am clearly not as strong as I thought I was, Two I could leave now, or three I could stay for now and send some sprites to gather some information. I decided to go with option number three. I immediately make ten sprites to go and look for some sort of town. I then sit back and wait for breakfast. As I sit and wait I idly reach for my magic to try some shaping exercises to get some more control. When I grab my magic I jolt up in surprise. It was almost fifty percent bigger than it was yesterday. I suddenly come up with a realization, Magic is like a muscle it grows when it is used more. I immediately use observe on myself.

HP: 100

MP: 200/300

SP:200

Strength(STR): 7

Agility(AGL): 9

Defense(D): 5

Sense(S): 6

I realized that if I wanted my magic power to increase I was going to have to keep using it and what I had been doing before just wasn't cutting it. As I ate breakfast I thought back to when I had first used my observe spell. It isn't a huge difference but it is progress. I started out with 100 to both HP and MP and 5 to each stat. I think my age is somewhat limiting me. I started to go over the ideas I had during the past year but could not complete because I didn't have enough MP. One of the ideas that I had that I can now do is the most basic trainer that I could come up with. It would basically make it so I felt like I was always walking through water instead of air. Doing so would really help with not only training but also time management.

I decided that I would do the ritual tonight after dinner because I would need the time to gather the ingredients. I would need sap from trees, it didn't matter what kind and a branch from a willow tree. The closest willow tree is a bit far so I decided to leave after I finished breakfast. After I finished eating some of the sprites had returned with interesting information. There was a town about a week's travel away. Now that I knew there was a town close by I was more prepared to stay here for longer. After all, now that I know how to raise my magical power I need to start training. I didn't know it yet but this was the first step on my journey into becoming The Legion.
