A/N: Hello! I've been writing a lot more recently and figured what better way to come back than a week-long mini-series. I've actually had some of the chapters for this small fic written for months, I just recently got around to finishing the whole thing. It should just be pure fluff and I hope you all enjoy :)
And if you're waiting for Can We Pretend, that'll be back next week :)
"Can I ask you a personal question?"
"Really? We-"
"Well, it's kind of embarrassing."
"Now I'm intrigued."
Adam stopped walking outside the break room at Jay and Hailey's voices. Smirking, he leaned against the wall to hear Jay's embarrassing question:
"Will you drive me to the dentist next Wednesday?"
Adam rolled his eyes and turned to walk away. It really wasn't as embarrassing as he'd hoped, but then he heard the distinct sound of Hailey setting her mug down on the counter. It felt off. She should have given a quick, easy reply, but instead there was silence for just a second too long.
"Should I ask why?" Hailey finally said.
"You know I don't like needles," Jay began, causing Adam to smirk again, "But I need a small filling - which I'm in complete denial about - so I'm gonna ask for some of that laughing gas to take the edge off."
Adam fully expected Hailey to laugh, he was hiding his own chuckle in his collar, but instead she simply said, "Of course."
"Thanks," Jay replied.
Again, Adam sighed in disappointment and moved to walk away only for Hailey's voice to stop him in his tracks.
"Are you really gonna be all numb after? Maybe I could help make you feel better when we get home."
He needed to cough to cover his shock. He'd known they were close, but flirty comments about making someone feel better? No. He hadn't expected that.
"I don't know. My face might be all lopsided," Jay said.
"Still a cute face, though," Hailey quipped back.
He'd heard that tone before, and if he thought hard enough, he could see her face as she'd said those words.
Taking a step closer to the break room, he held his breath as Jay said, "You don't mean that."
"Try me," Hailey said so softly that Adam almost missed it. She then walked out of the room toward her desk and sat in it with a smirk directed toward the still-open door.
Adam took the opportunity to enter the break room for the coffee he'd originally wanted and eyed Jay smiling to himself while pouring milk into his mug. "Hey," he greeted and pulled his own mug off the wall.
"Hey," Jay replied without looking up.
"So," Adam began, briefly deciding how to play the situation before putting all formalities to the side and just jumping in: "Dentist next week?"
Jay's hand slipped and milk spilt on the counter. "What?" he mumbled as he began mopping up the liquid.
"Just heard you ask Hailey about it," Adam said, reaching over for the coffee pot. He glanced up at Jay now staring at him and smiled. "Everything good?"
"Uh, yeah," Jay said. He cleared his throat then accepted the coffee pot back to place it on the machine. "Just a filling," he explained.
"Damn," Adam said and took a long sip of coffee.
Jay nodded and moved to walk out only for Adam to take a step in his way. They made eye contact and Adam knew that Jay knew he knew. He didn't know how long or what the context was, but he knew Jay and Hailey were dating.
He finally softened and stepped out of the way, patting Jay's back as he passed him.
Jay chuckled as he stepped from the room and shook his head, mumbling, "Dumbass."
Adam laughed into his coffee and silently prayed he was the first to figure it out. He didn't even want to tell Kevin or Kim; he wanted to see how long it'd take them to figure it out.
A/N: Let me know what you think? :) Talk tomorrow!
