A/N: Hello! Happy Wednesday! I hope today's chapter brings a smile to your face before One Chicago night!

Kim groaned quietly and tilted her head back against the head rest. "I'm so hungry," she mumbled.

"Shouldn't be long now," Adam breathed, "I hope."

Kim waited a moment then shook the frustration and exhaustion from her head. "I'm getting a snack," she announced. Grabbing her radio, she said, "Jay, do we have five minutes?"

She only needed to wait a beat before Jay's voice crackled through and said, "I'm guessing. Why?"

"I'm getting a snack," she replied and opened the car door. "Anything?" she asked Adam.

He simply shook his head and waved her on.

Closing the door, she glanced around to see Hailey also slipping out of Jay's car. They met up in front of the gas station, and Hailey said, "I need chocolate."

Kim laughed and pushed the door open for her. "I love that idea," she replied, "Personally, I need salt."

"You sound like Jay," Hailey laughed.

Kim smiled and shook her head, leading the way to the snacks. "Adam's a fan of peanut butter and pickles," she said, "He's practically a pregnant woman."

"I remember that," Hailey said, laughing still, "Does he still need a bedtime snack?"

"Of course," Kim scoffed, "He's like Makayla."

Hailey shot her a smile while grabbing a chocolate bar. "How's that been going?" she asked.

"It's good," Kim answered, "She's sweet and…and I like it. It feels right."

"You're meant to be a mom," Hailey replied, "And you're doing an amazing thing. We're proud of you."

Kim hesitated for just moment then glanced over at her. "Yeah?" she asked as she grabbed a bag of pretzels.

Hailey looked up and said, "Yeah, of course. Jay said he can't believe the green patrol cop he met years ago is a mom." She winked then walked over to the cash register with a chocolate bar in hand.

Kim raised an eyebrow before slowly following her. "Really?" she asked.

"Mhmm," Hailey hummed. She grabbed a pack of gum off the counter and slid it to the cashier.

Kim continued staring at her as she paid, realization slowly creeping in her mind, then asked, "How is he? Jay? I haven't talked to him in a bit about non-work stuff."

"Uh, good," Hailey said with a shrug and stepped to the side, "He just had work done on his apartment - well, the building had work done. His hot water went out."

"Yikes," Kim breathed and set the pretzels on the counter, "That happened at my place a couple years ago. I was dating Blair at the time, so I stayed with him."

Hailey smiled to herself and looked down at her boots.

Kim glanced at her out of the corner of her eye then smirked. She paid for her pretzels and followed Hailey back out to the parking lot.

Thinking back over her relationship with Hailey, she knew they weren't the closest of friends, but they were the only female coworkers in their unit and that meant something. It had to. They'd been kidnapped together and almost died. Hailey had seen her bleeding and miscarrying in a bathtub, and she'd watched her battle demons when Jay's life was in danger. Their stories were intertwined no matter how many personal details they told each other.

And she knew secrets were no fun to keep alone for long periods of time.

"He stayed with you," she stated softly.

It wasn't a question, but a fact, because no matter what they ever spoke about, they knew each other's tells.

"Yeah," Hailey admitted easily, looking up at her, "Just a couple nights."

Kim smiled and nodded. "That's nice," she said, "You two…"

Hailey tilted her head to the side then nodded back at her, a small smile on he face.

Stepping backwards, Kim smiled slightly and said, "See you in a bit."

Hailey nodded again and said, "Hopefully soon. This is getting ridiculous."

Kim laughed and shook her head before turning to head back to Adam's car. She glanced over her shoulder at Hailey walking to join Jay again and smiled.

"Hurry up," Adam said when he opened the door for her.

She rolled her eyes and hopped in. "Did something happen?" she asked.

"Course not," Adam sighed, "Same old, same old. Hailey have any information?"

"None that you're looking for," Kim answered and opened her bag of pretzels.

Adam raised an eyebrow and accepted the pretzel she offered him. "What do you mean?"

Kim just smirked and shrugged as she took a bite.

Adam glanced out his window at Jay's truck then chuckled. "You found out?" he asked.

Kim froze and countered, "What?"

"They're together," Adam said, "You figured it out."

Kim's jaw dropped and she said, "You knew?"

Adam nodded and said, "Found out a couple weeks ago. Was wondering how long it'd take you and Kev."

"I'm insulted you didn't tell me," Kim said.

Adam shrugged and laughed quietly. "All in good fun. Are you really surprised, though? I mean…attached at the hip, right?"

"Oh, it was a matter of time," Kim said, sitting back in her seat.

"Exactly," Adam chuckled. He ate another pretzel then picked up his radio and called Jay for an update on their stakeout.

Kim listened to their conversation, but kept thinking about the smile on Hailey's face. It certainly explained the one that had been on Jay's the past month.

It definitely wasn't the worst thing to happen to their unit.

Maybe even one of the best.

Besides Makayla, of course.
