A/N: Hi! Happy Thursday! I'm so glad so many of you have been enjoying these little mini stories. I hope you like this one as well!
Makayla held onto the back of the grocery cart as Kim pushed it down the aisle way. She laughed as they went and pretended to reach for the boxes of cereal they passed.
"Want some?" Kim asked.
"Well…sure," Makayla said, jumping off the cart once it was stopped.
"I'm pretty sure we're almost out of Cheerios," Kim said while grabbing a box.
"That is so boring," Makayla replied. Pushing up on her tiptoes, she reached for the box of Coco Puffs.
"And that's not boring?" Kim teased.
Makayla laughed and shrugged before jumping up to push the box.
"Here," Kim said, reaching over to grab the box for her.
Makayla watched her set it in the cart then said, "And Adam likes Apple Jacks."
"Oh, really?" Kim asked as she straightened up.
Makayla nodded and began scanning the aisle for the cereal. Upon finding it, she ran over to grab a box. "He ate the last little bit the other day," she explained while setting the box in the cart.
Kim let out a breath, but still smiled when she replied, "Okay."
Makayla smiled back then jumped on the back of the cart.
Kim studied her for a moment before saying, "You know, Adam was wondering if we wanted to do a movie night-"
"Finally," Makayla said, "Can we make a fort?"
"Obviously," Kim answered and began pushing the cart again, "I was even thinking s'mores."
"We need a fire for that," Makayla said.
"Not if we use the oven or microwave," Kim pointed out.
Makayla gasped and said, "You are smart!"
Laughing, Kim shook her head and said, "I saw it online. Want to go grab the chocolate? I'll get the graham crackers." She stopped the cart at the end of the chocolate aisle and looked around for what else was on her list.
Makayla jumped down, but hesitated instead of walking away.
"It's right there. I'll be able to see you," Kim reassured, "I'll grab the milk then meet you down there."
Makayla slowly nodded and began walking away. She hummed quietly under her breath while staring at all the chocolate and candy. Suddenly she bumped into someone and gasped while stepping back.
"Oops!" the lady said.
Makayla glanced up at her and instantly relaxed. It was Hailey; she wouldn't yell.
"Hey, you," Hailey greeted.
"Hi," Makayla replied, "I'm looking for chocolate for s'mores."
"Oh, that sounds good," Hailey said. She hummed and looked over the shelves. "Let's see, do you want the plain stuff or something else?" she asked.
"What?" Makayla asked.
Grabbing an orange package, Hailey showed her and said, "Reese's on s'mores is the best. They're good normally, but even better on a s'more."
"Wow," Makayla breathed as she accepted the chocolate.
"Look who it is."
Makayla looked up at Jay walking toward them, a loaf of bread in his hand. She smiled and said, "Hi."
"Hey, kiddo," Jay replied. He set the bread in Hailey's cart and asked, "What're you two up to?"
Makayla spotted his hand rub over Hailey's back then settle on her waist. She tilted her head to the side while staring at it.
"Makayla said she's making s'mores," Hailey answered, "I'm trying to tell her Reese's is the perfect chocolate."
"Shouldn't it just be plain Hersheys?" Jay asked while reaching around her for the chocolate. He held it out to Makayla and said, "Classic is the best."
"Thank you," she said softly and accepted the chocolate.
"And you?" Jay asked Hailey, "What're you getting?"
"I grabbed some of those chocolate covered blueberries you like and some M&Ms for myself," she answered.
Jay hummed and glanced in the cart.
"Did you get mini M&Ms?" Makayla asked, "They're my favorite. I like how tiny they are."
"Those are good, but no, I just got the regular ones," Hailey answered.
"Darn," Makayla sighed.
"You found some friends, huh?"
Makayla glimpsed Jay stepping back from Hailey before she turned to see Kim walking over to her. She smiled and held up the chocolate. "Jay and Hailey gave me these," she said.
"Reese's and Hersheys, I don't know, bear," Kim said while grabbing the chocolate. She glanced at Jay and Hailey and said, "Both?"
"She's a kid," Jay said and shrugged, "Give her chocolate."
Hailey laughed and lightly shoved his arm. "Says you," she said.
"Don't you hate chocolate?" Kim asked, laughing herself.
"Not my favorite," Jay chuckled, "But kids deserve chocolate." He winked at Makayla and again put a hand on Hailey's back.
Makayla laughed with the others then looked up to Kim and said, "Please?"
Kim raised an eyebrow and sighed. "Well…"
Makayla put her best smile on her face and said, "It's for Adam too."
Kim laughed and dropped the chocolate in the cart. "Fine," she said, "You can have both, but we're not eating both at the same time."
"There ya go, Burg, loosen up," Jay said and reached over to give Makayla a high-five.
"When you two have kids, I will be giving them all the sugar," Kim said, a smirk forming on her face.
Hailey laughed and looked up at Jay shaking his head.
Makayla scrunched her eyebrows together, but before she could ask the question teasing her lips, Kim put a hand on her shoulder and said, "Come on. I texted Adam, and he said he'll bring hot dogs. We can have a big camping night in the living room."
"That sounds like a lot of fun," Hailey said, "See you two later."
Jay waved and led Hailey away down a different aisle.
Makayla stared after them until Kim got her attention, and they walked in the opposite direction. She stayed quiet most of the time as they finished their grocery shopping until they reached the car in the parking lot. It wasn't until she was situated in her car seat and Kim had started the radio that she asked, "Are they married?"
Kim looked at her in the rearview mirror and asked, "Who?"
"Jay and Hailey," Makayla replied, "When are they gonna have a kid too?"
"Oh, no," Kim laughed softly, "They're not married. That was a joke." She scanned the parking lot then pulled the car out of her spot.
"Well, Jay touches her like Adam touches you," Makayla said, "I think they're in love too."
Kim blushed and said, "Adam and I aren't in love."
"But you love each other," Makayla said, staring out the window, "I think Jay and Hailey love each other."
Kim let out a breath and debated her words for a moment before saying, "I think they do too."
Makayla smiled out the window and nodded. She liked seeing people in love…even if Kim didn't believe she was in love with Adam - Makayla knew better.
A/N: See you tomorrow for the last one! :)
