Eight o'clock at night on October 31st.
The night air had a mild chill, orange and yellow leaves covering yards while jack-o-lanterns smile eerily from their porches. Normally a happy time for the loud kids, however earlier while decorating the house just hours earlier a "prank" gone wrong lead to their dad bolting down the stairs. Their Dad fractured his left femer, and needed to be rushed to the hospital. In the chaos Rita Lori in charge of the kids, there would be no trick or treating tonight. Bummed out the Loud kids sat in the living room still wearing their costumes, Lynn turned to give her younger sister a dirty look.
" you just had to be a ghost".
Lucy looked down wearing a dirty white dress a day ghostly face paint, Lincoln chimed in patting Lucy's shoulder, " I like Lucy's costume Lynn, who could of guessed dad would of come upstairs at that time". Lynn frowned and tossed her luchalibra mask aggressively.
On the floor Lana dressed as a plumber and Lola like princess peach sat sullenly, both girls half heartedly bickering.
Luna lounged on the recliner strumming her guitar, the brunette was wearing a black skeleton suite and had her face painted as well. Luan was dressed like Mr coconuts in full puppet regalia flipping through channels trying to find something to watch while Lisa started packing up her kangaroo costume dissapointed, meanwhile the two oldest looked on at their siblings frustrated. This would be Lori's last Halloween living at home, the last one she'd get to spend with her siblings and it was totally sucking. Looking down at a text from her mom Lori winced, her parents were still in the emergency room waiting room. Apparently the er was unusually busy this Halloween, it looked like their parents wouldn't be home until much later tonight. Looking twords Leni, Lori watched as the blonde soothed a fussy Lilly.
Running her fingers through her short hair Lori can hear screaming from an ancient horror movie Luan put on, suddenly she got an idea. Excited Lori turned to Leni and whispered in her ear, Leni smiled and rushed into the kitchen in search of snacks. Running upstairs Lori ignored the questioning looks her siblings gave her, pulling the hatch for the attic Lori gathered a box full of Lucy's candles and a book of matches. Back downstairs Leni gathered her siblings and distributed packages peanutbutter crackers and some sugar free juice boxes, their mom was on another health kick so junk food was scarce. With their spirits lifted the loud kids chatted while they snack, Lori came downstairs holding her box before arranging the candles in the least dangerous places. Curious Luan piped up, " what's going on Lori"?
Smiling Lori lit a candle as she spoke, " this May be the last Halloween we get to spend together as a family, so far its literally been the worst. I want to do something fun, so I was thinking we could tell some scary stories in the dark".
With that the kids gathered around the couch with ranging expressions, the candles illuminating the area around then while shadows flicking about the kids look about at each other waiting for someone to tell a story.
