Jonathan had spent a whole thirty minutes in Nonō's office. The blood was rushing to his head from hanging upside down for so long. When he began to feel uneasy, he released the chakra from underneath his feet and somersaulted in the air before lightly landing.
His height hadn't grown much in the past few months, but his body was now accustomed to performing moves that a normal child his age would have found impossible. This was because of chakra. Jonathan didn't find being able to jump several feet higher or run at faster speeds remotely exciting. Kakashi Hatake was capable of performing those features at an even younger age.
The only difference was that Jonathan had the mind of a twenty-five-year-old as well as extensive knowledge of how most of this world's ideas of physics worked. Had Kakashi Hatake been reborn or traversed time, he would have perfected what Jonathan did in mere weeks.
The thought became more of an incentive for him to grow.
Despite having learned six new techniques in less than a year, something not easy for most ninjas, Jonathan could execute a few of them before running out of chakra. The effectiveness of them was also limited if Jonathan didn't use enough chakra.
With his training in Nonō's office only half complete, Jonathan chose to depart. If Jonathan needed to be fully prepared for the day the nine-tails would arrive, he needed to know something important: the affinity he had for one of the five elements.
Each ninja has at least one main affinity for the following elements: earth, wind, fire, lightning and water. Since Jonathan had no parents nor was he affiliated with any particular clan, he had little to work with. A way to determine one's affinity would be the chakra induction paper. But Jonathan was fully aware that the orphanage didn't carry any. Trying to ask for one would definitely be dubious. This was an orphanage that allowed children to practice medical ninjutsu. Not the ninja academy.
Jonathan opened the doors slightly to check if anyone was in the hallways. When the coast was clear, he moulded chakra under his feet, formed the tiger hand seal and activated the teleportation technique. Though not actually teleportation, Jonathan was able to move at high speeds around the orphanage before making it outside. The only person he was cautious of whilst performing this technique outside Nonō's office was Nonō herself. Jonathan, however, knew where Nonō was during this time, so he took the safest route away from her location.
Several seconds later and Jonathan was a safe distance away from the orphanage. Most of the children were outside playing, so it would be completely natural if Jonathan was spotted. But Jonathan was not one to leave room for mistakes. Conserving his chakra, he decided to jog a little further. The orphanage was well hidden, but he kept his senses alert in case someone was following him or was close by.
When he judged his location to be safe, and that no one was following him, Jonathan began. Using chakra to augment certain areas of his body, he leapt forward to a tree and stuck to it like a dart. He then bounced upwards onto its branch before landing safely. Had Jonathan not practiced his chakra control, this would have been impossible for a child his age.
Jonathan looked down and saw that he was already more than ten feet above the ground. But he wasn't impressed. Not even close. His expression remained blank.
Immediately, Jonathan leapt from the branch and landed on another. He performed the high-speed movement technique to further increase his movements. After several minutes of leaps and flips, Jonathan could feel his body tiring out. He stopped on a branch before backflipping to the ground. Had it not been for chakra at his disposal, he would have surely broken his legs.
Jonathan estimated he had about ten minutes remaining before he had to return. On days like this, he knew how busy the orphanage got; so, no one bothered Jonathan when they thought he was reading in Nonō's office.
There was only one other way Jonathan could figure out what his main chakra nature was without the chakra induction paper. But even this method was not accurate enough. Back on earth, Jonathan would role-play with his friends by pretending to unleash their favourite techniques. That was the time Jonathan was entranced by the series. Since Jonathan had nothing to lose (save what was left from his chakra reserves), he began gathering some of that chakra whilst performing the hand seals he remembered.
First snake, then ram, then monkey, then boar, then horse, and lastly tiger. Jonathan moulded the chakra between his chest and mouth, inhaled deeply and tried to exhale fire.
Nothing happened.
Not a puff of cloud, not even a hint of black smoke. There wasn't any burning sensation either. All Jonathan felt was his chakra being wasted. This failure hadn't surprised Jonathan in the slightest. Not even a little bit. For he knew there was only a twenty percent chance of something happening.
Since that didn't work, Jonathan moved onto his next jutsu. First monkey, then dragon, next rat, next bird, followed by ox, then snake, dog, tiger and finally monkey. Jonathan didn't say the name nor did he think of it. He kept a straight face while directing a lot of his chakra into one area. Suddenly, a spark flashed on Jonathan's palm.
