It felt like forever until morning came, but it finally did.

Kimiko got ready for the day and winced when she realized they hadn't gotten groceries last night like planned. They would just have to leave a little earlier and pick up something on the way to school.

She stared at the mirror next to the door for a moment. She didn't know how these American children dressed or acted. DWMA staff had done the research and the purchasing, so she trusted their choices, but she still wasn't confident she could pull these looks off.

She turned to the side to look at the rhinestones on her pants once more. While she appreciated a good pair of jeans, she wished the pair she was currently wearing weren't so bedazzled.

She sighed as she ran her fingers through her ponytail one more time, looking for any tangles she missed. It was now or never.

She opened her door to see Raj closing his behind him. They nodded to each other and fell in step to the car.

"Any requests," Raj asked as he stopped at the exit of the parking lot.

Kimiko snorted, "They don't have anything that I would actually request, so feel free to pick whatever strikes your fancy."

They started in the direction of the school with ample time to find something to eat. They looked at the signs of fast-food places, which were few and far in between, but they were the only things open.

Almost at the school, they settled on a coffee shop. Some pastries and coffee would do.

DWMA offered coffee in the cafeteria to all ages, so they had been drinking the beverage since their first week of school.

Kimiko tolerated it with enough cream and sugar, but Raj was a bit of an aficionado and liked to try a new coffee black so he could better "appreciate all the notes." It grossed Kimiko out.

They pulled away and sipped on their respective drinks. Raj made a clicking sound with his tongue and Kimiko interpreted it to mean the coffee was mediocre at best.

"Want to try mine," she offered.

He shook his head, "I wouldn't be able to taste yours over the cream and sugar you had them put in it. Besides, mine isn't that bad."

They parked in a visitor spot to finish their breakfast and watched teachers and administrators file in. The other students would be there soon enough.

Resigned, they got out of the car and walked in the building now that it was unlocked. Kimiko wanted to settle any paperwork and make sure they had a chance to look over the place before it was crowded.

The receptionist was surprised to see students so early, but she was quick to help them. DWMA had sent notice they were coming and a copy of their records and transcripts. All they had to do was review the student handbook and sign that they weren't going to violate it.

The assistant principal came to greet them as they finished, and seemed genuinely surprised that their parents hadn't accompanied them.

She didn't let it faze her long and was soon giving them a tour, asking to look at their schedules time to time so she could point out their new classrooms. She introduced them briefly to the teachers who were waiting in their rooms.

The assistant principal apologized for the handful of teachers who were either in the break room or late.

Kimiko smiled and told her it was no trouble.

Finding themselves back near the office, Kimiko asked if they could park their car in student parking now that they had their tag and assigned spot.

"Of course," she said cheerfully, "You two are some of the most conscientious students we have! Thank you for being so prepared and thorough."

In their car once more, Kimiko let out a breath, and Raj nodded his head. It disturbed them both how ill-prepared these American children were if being thorough, efficient, and not dependent on adults were considered rare and admirable traits. It did not bode well for the weapon when they found them.

The mission length was indefinite, so they had as much time to find the weapon and train them as they needed, which Kimiko had been thankful for at first because extra time for finding them had been her primary concern as her soul perception was extremely limited. Now though, she was concerned that training the weapon would be the immensely more difficult and time-consuming part of the mission with an inept and spoiled American child. Kimiko did not sign up for babysitting duties when she chose to become a meister.

They took their time walking back to the building, watching the older children who had cars file in around them.

They could hear the whispers and made no reaction to the open staring. New students were not common here, as they had been informed during the mission brief. While annoying to endure, it did give them an advantage. The weapon they were seeking had transferred within the last five years, giving them a short list to start with.

Lord Death did a worldwide sweep with his soul perception every five years to compile a list of weapon and meister souls to keep an eye out for. The weapon in Forks had not been there during his last sweep, giving them the five-year window. Lord Death's long-distance soul perception did not reveal biological sex or exact ages, leaving them with only an age group to go by.

Kimiko's soul perception was strongest through physical touch. If she could get that list and create opportunities to grab their hands or forearms, she could see if their soul was one of a weapon or not.

Their first goal was to get their hands on the list of transfer students. DWMA had given them a thumb drive with a virus that could find that information for them, they just had to plug it in to a computer with access to the school district network.

It was just as they opened the door to the building that a shiny silver Volvo parked in the student lot. Followed immediately by an obnoxious and equally shiny Jeep.

Their car stood out because it was new, rust-free, and clean. The Volve stood out because it was all that and foreign, therefore expensive. While Kimiko was not well versed in Jeeps, it did not appear cheap. There wasn't a lot of money in this area to warrant a teenager, let alone two, show up in something like that.

Odd, but not necessarily concerning.

What did raise alarm bells for Kimiko was the group that exited both vehicles. One of the six was clearly a human girl. The other five were clearly not.

Kimiko had never run into vampires on previous missions, but DWMA taught about them.

Finding and training the weapon just dropped down on the priority list with this new problem.
