ghost haunting AU

"I saw a ghost!" Hermione said excitedly, pointing her camera to the wall.

"We're looking for ghosts, genius. That's a good thing," Theo deadpanned, but he smiled softly at her.

Theo never imagined he was going to be looking for ghosts at the Riddle old house—the creepy abandoned mansion in his old neighbourhood. He probably would never come here, but seeing the smile on Hermione's face was worth it. Even if he didn't believe in ghosts.

"No, Theo, you don't understand! It was a real ghost!" Hermione came near him, pushing her camera into his face. "Look! It's on tape! Ghosts are real!"

The image on Hermione's camera was a weird thing passing on the background of the hallway they were standing in. It could be just a drift of air, but Theo didn't have the heart to break Hermione's expectations.

Theo met Hermione while they were studying at the library before their finals, and Theo had fallen for her in an instant. Hermione was quirky, smart and so pretty; he had been a goner from the start.

"I can't believe we found evidence! Oh, Professor McGonagall will be so pleased, and I bet we can see if we can get some plasma evidence," Hermione said, kissing his cheek quickly, before running towards the second floor. "I'll see if I can find something else here!"

He chuckled; Theo never saw Hermione so pleased with something. She was a woman of science, and didn't believe in things she couldn't see with her eyes—except when it came to the supernatural world.

"Try not to be hurt! I don't want to explain to your parents how you fell through old stairs and how it is somehow my fault," Theo yelled, seeing Hermione disappear through the stairs. "I'm serious, Hermione! Don't do anything dangerous!"

Theo usually was very laid back, but when it came to Hermione, he got overprotective of her, and he knew she just laughed at him, but his heart hurt just imagining her getting hurt.

"Now…let's see if we can actually find some evidence here, so Hermione doesn't have to be alone and I'm not on her father's hit list," Theo murmured to himself, holding his own camera up.

He started walking around the first floor, moving his camera slowly, trying to see if he could find something. Theo knew he wasn't going to find anything, but for Hermione, he would try to find it, even if he didn't believe himself.

"Theo!" Hermione screamed from the second floor, and Theo felt his heart in his throat. "I need you here! NOW!"

Theo didn't know how fast he ran, he just knew he had to come to where Hermione was the fastest possible. He found her at one of the old bedrooms, staring at something standing at the window.

"Tell me that you're seeing the same thing that I am," Hermione whispered, not once lowering her camera or taking her eyes from the window. "You're seeing it, right?"

"Yeah, I'm definitely seeing it," Theo replied, before gulping. "Whatever happens, just know that I love you, okay?"

"I love you too, you dork, but nothing is going to happen," Hermione replied, looking quickly at him. "But it's nice to hear you saying."

In front of the window, looking at them with a bored expression, a boy around their age was floating off the floor. Theo never imagined ghosts were real, but looking at the boy, he couldn't deny what he was seeing.

"You found me," the ghost deadpanned. "What are you going to do with me now?"

That was the question of one million pounds, but Theo didn't have an answer. Looking at Hermione, he knew exactly what she was going to say. Resigning himself to a night of ghost hunting and negotiation, Theo prepared himself.

"Well…how about a ghostly apparition at my university?" Hermione asked, with a smirk. "You can even become famous."

The boy's ghost eyes illuminated even more, and Theo knew Hermione had caught him. And this was just the beginning of one of the weirdest nights of Theo's life.
